I unplugged the main wiring harness, inside the tailgate. I used contact cleaner and dielectric grease. Plugged it back in, works great! Hopefully its a permanent fix!

Hey I hope it works for good also. Let us know. Usually just opening and closing the tailgate gets it to work again. Sometimes for a year. It’s so random. Tough to know what a fix is because of that.

Have you tried replacing the camera?

    • @davidbryanwoodworksandmore
      @davidbryanwoodworksandmore  6 дней назад

@@bradenhenderson2705 no. I haven’t done anything. It works most all the time so it’s not bad. Dropping tailgate down for a second gets camera to work again if it goes out. It’s not bad.

Same issue on my 2016. I bought used 2 years ago with 35k miles on it. Seen some other videos for a fix but this is aggravating

Yes it’s annoying. It does it very sporadically but it’s usually when you need the camera most. I’ve found that if I lift the tailgate open and shut it, the camera will work again.

My 2016 Ram 2500 does the same thing. Have you looked into the tailgate on your truck? I will dive into the tailgate on my truck if you can confirm that you found something there.

If I open and shut the tailgate it fixes the problem. This makes me think it’s either at the camera or in the tailgate somewhere.

It’s the harness connection in the tailgate that connects to the camera

Its the wire harness, it lose and gets knock around

Exactky. My truck I think was the first ever truck to have this problem. Lol. According to ram, they never heard of this. Lol. This was supposedly fixed from dealer and it’s not. But yes it’s a bad connection in tailgate somewhere.

Just bought a 2018 similar issue. It's at dealership right now being worked on.

Interesting. They should have a service bulletin for this or a recall. It’s a major safety issue. Mine goes out very infrequently and it usually just takes me to open the tailgate or turn the truck off and back on again. So that’s good. It used to be a lot.

@@davidbryanwoodworksandmore They found a pinched wire somewhere under the console. I haven't picked it up yet as it is still having issues with some lean codes on both bank 1 and 2.

@@gregsangster6265 can you get a detailed description of what the dealership found and where exactly they found it. (Color of wire to identify pinched wire) let me/us know if repair was successful.

@avthrows I would like to get the info but, the dealership does not have very good documentation. I have had the truck since March 18 and only driven for 3.5 days. Been in the shop the rest of the time, troubleshooting lean codes and a rear main seal leak. I will enquire but doubt they will have a detailed report.

@@gregsangster6265 interesting. I hope your truck gets back to working correctly. The camera is such a weird thing but I feel it’s so important that there should be a recall on them.

It’s a loose wire in the tailgate that connects to camera. It’s been okay for awhile now but every now and then it will do it. So I’ll open the tailgate and shut it. That seems to fix it.

@@davidbryanwoodworksandmore that didn’t work, but it did get me thinking. I unplugged the connection blew into it like we used to do with the Nintendo 64 games and it works fine now.

You can see wires going from the tailgate to the bed. It’s a plastic cover. Squeeze the tab on the plastic and the connection is there.

where it’s plugged to the camera
