Scarface: Greatest Rapper Of All Time

Поделиться

  • Опубликовано: 21 июл 2017
  • Let’s do the math. 7 group albums since 1988 as part of the Geto Boys. One platinum (We Can’t Be Stopped). Two Gold. (Till Death Do Us Part & The Resurrection).
    11 solo albums since 1991’s Mr. Scarface Is Back. 3 Platinum (The Diary, The Untouchable & My Homies). 4 Gold.
    At least 3 certified classics. The Geto Boys Grip It On Another Level received 5 Mics in The Source. The Fix received 5 mics in The Source. The Diary received a perfect score in The Source and XXL. Mr. Scarface Is Back is absolutely in a classic conversation. Super pioneering piece of work. We’ll get back to that. Face was honored by BET with the I AM Hip Hop Award in 2015. He won best lyricist of 2001 at The Source Awards, beating out Jay-Z, Eminem, Prodigy, and Talib Kweli. That’s a diverse ass class. 29 years. Incredible productivity. Commercial impact. Spilling critical acclaim. That combination helps put into context why Scarface is consistently considered your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper. Every region is littered with emcees that revere the legendary Brad Jordan. Scarface may be the greatest rapper of all time.

Just curious. Love the show as always. Keep it up.

    • @TheCompanyMan

      Depends. I absolutely have an editorial calendar so I always have a topic ready for each week. But on weeks where a big story breaks, Ill adjust. That's the Screaming Fire In A Stadium piece, for example. We're a lot faster on the production that we used to be so it gives us more flexibility on topics. That'll help when we roll out new shows in the coming weeks too.

    Face is in my Top 3 due to a combination of realness/authenticity and consistency. What's crazy is that when most people stay consistent, they usually fall off because they don't change with the times. The reason I think Face avoids all that is because though other guys will stay consistent, their character foundations are rooted into something more artificial than authentic.
    My analogy would be - Face' character is the raw mineral, Gold. Where other rappers could have a similar a Gold standard of a character, they do other bs to give off the image that they are something more than that, in this case White Gold. That's cool for a short time being, but when rappers who came out with a Platinum character, that pretty much exposed White Gold for being a faux mineral to compete with Platinum. But no one can take away the importance of the raw mineral, Gold. Gold dates back way further than Platinum and is still the preference mineral to many over Platinum. That's what Face is to me.

    • @TheCompanyMan
      @TheCompanyMan  7 лет назад +1

      Interesting analogy, Slays. Thanks for that.

    I was born in '84. I was introduced to Richard Pryor around 2004 after growing up on Def Comedy, Martin, etc. After I saw Pryor's work, I could see his influence on every black comedian that followed. That sample of Biggies and Hov then Face gave me chills and the exact feeling Pryor gave me. Thanks for reason to stick my southern hip hop chest out a little further.
