Brilliant! My Grandmother tried to teach me, 50+ yrs ago. My mother tried forty years ago, as I was leaving the nest. Since then, I just kind of fold them in half a couple of times and stuff them in my linen closet. Retired now, so I have the time to learn. RUclips has too many videos on folding fitted sheets. I watched 3-4 videos last night and stumbled poorly through. Later that night I saw one that happened to show that key view without calling special attention to it, and it helped immensely! I knew as soon as I saw yours in the feed that this was the one to really teach it. (and still under 7 minutes!)
Finally, someone who explained what to look for, the u shape. It still took me a while to get it but now I know the 1st goal is the u shape and from there it makes sense. Thank you!

The problem with the other videos is that you have people who know how to do it and they have forgotten what it’s like to not be able to do it. So they talk you through a couple of steps and assume that they’re actually explaining everything because they understand what they are doing, meanwhile, some things are left incomprehensible to those who don't understand the process. As an educator, you have bypassed this blunder. I also know to avoid that mistake because I have taught people guitar and have learned to put myself in the mindset of someone who doesn’t know what I know. I wanted to surprise my wife by folding all the sheets as I know she's given up following videos and hates it, was utterly shocked that there were so many videos that all went into the same confusing mess after "fold this corner over that"... I even watched them at half speed and still couldn't work out what they were doing as they said descriptively "now that there and that there and stuff it up there" - what?! I actually started to lose hope until I found this video, then nailed it first time and feel like I get it now, honestly thank you so much! I was starting to feel there was some kind of magic circle nonesense going on for laundry where once you know you never teach others, just descend into mumbling and do it with slight of hand to make them think you told them and they were too dumb to get it

100%. All those old ladies telling me to grab all 4 corners and magically have a square when it was some weird trapezoid has to throwing the sheet in the closet in a ball. This worked so much better ❤❤❤

As an engineer, I always thought 'folding fitted sheets?? ...can't be done' just fold them up and toss'em in the drawer....today I had an epiphany: "there's got to be a better way....let's google this". Low and behold, someone I know ( The Great Courses ) is showing me how to do this. Had six of'em fresh out of the dryer...and whad'daya know? they're all neatly tucked in the drawer now. Thank You!!

Further to finding that U-shape... I was so excited about this process finally making some sense that before I'd even tried it for the first time, I showed it to my genius 16yo son. He said that it's like you're starting with a sheet already fitted on a mattress, undoing the top corners and folding them over the bottom corners of your mattress, but inside out. It's kinda obvious when you put it like that...
I found it confusing actually. Is it maths or follow my nose? The fast speech was distracting as I tried to follow the physical explanation. It didn’t translate for me. No close ups to highlight the second lot of corners. For my brain it needs calm, precise and detailed steps to process.
Reverse engineering is indeed the best way to do it, it's just usually we've long forgotten how it came out of the package when we get around to putting it away again. First time I've actually been able to follow what is going on in a fitted sheet folding how-to--brilliantly done!

I wanted to surprise my wife by folding all the sheets as I know she's given up following videos and hates it, was utterly shocked that there were so many videos that all went into the same confusing mess after "fold this corner over that"... I even watched them at half speed and still couldn't work out what they were doing as they said descriptively "now that there and that there and stuff it up there" - what?!
I actually started to lose hope until I found this video, then nailed it first time and feel like I get it now, honestly thank you so much! I was starting to feel there was some kind of magic circle nonesense going on for laundry where once you know you never teach others, just descend into mumbling and do it with slight of hand to make them think you told them and they were too dumb to get it

The reverse engineering you showed on the flat surface of the table, the 3 x 3 x 2 folds you demonstrated and the elastic "U" shape made perfect sense. Your scholarly advice made something I have been struggling to understand through multiple other youtube instructors extremely easy. As an engineer, I always thought 'folding fitted sheets?? ...can't be done' just fold them up and toss'em in the drawer....today I had an epiphany: "there's got to be a better way....let's google this". Low and behold, someone I know ( The Great Courses ) is showing me how to do this. Had six of'em fresh out of the dryer...and whad'daya know? they're all neatly tucked in the drawer now.

Holy Sh*t dude....your video actually worked and I now have a perfect fitted sheet! I watched 10 videos and didn't get it....your video made it clear after I saw the "U Shape" in my fitted sheet. So freakin awesome!!!
Further to finding that U-shape... I was so excited about this process finally making some sense that before I'd even tried it for the first time, I showed it to my genius 16yo son. He said that it's like you're starting with a sheet already fitted on a mattress, undoing the top corners and folding them over the bottom corners of your mattress, but inside out.
It's kinda obvious when you put it like that...

I'm trying to picture that in my head and have almost got it.
I found it confusing actually. Is it maths or follow my nose? The fast speech was distracting as I tried to follow the physical explanation. It didn’t translate for me. No close ups to highlight the second lot of corners. For my brain it needs calm, precise and detailed steps to process.
Reverse engineering is indeed the best way to do it, it's just usually we've long forgotten how it came out of the package when we get around to putting it away again. First time I've actually been able to follow what is going on in a fitted sheet folding how-to--brilliantly done!

Thank you so much. I thought I was going mad until I watched your video. You have to make the "U shape", perfect, I can understand that. Almost all the videos just say "tuck the corners into themselves" and the you are left with a baffling collection of free edges.
