    Can't thank you enough Mark. I watch this video twice a day. I have compensated cirrhosis and am really scared of ascites. Thanks Dr Mark, from Scotland, across the pond.

    Sir, i had ascites due to cirrohsis but i managed my diet and took pills Tab. Spiromide 20mg/day. Limited my sodium intake. But, some doctors advise that sodium is also necessary, patients should take at low quantity. It has been 1year, i don't have ascites now. Could it be controlled even more longer years? And further remedies?

      Any illness can promote fluid retention and therefore worsen ascites if you already have it. Hope you find some relief! Thanks for watching.

    May I ask a question pls. : My 17 yr old son who has autism underwent full ab ultrasound and found moderate ascites. Ct scan was recommended to corelate findings. All his organs including liver are all normal. Can massive ascites be diagnosed in him? He has so flat and thin tummy. Why was it massive ascites?

    I have NASH &, at least as of my last checkup, I do not have cirrhosis. I'm having the symptoms of ascites, so I have an appointment scheduled to be checked out for it, but I'm curious if it's possible to have ascites when I only have NASH? I have to wait a few weeks for my appointment & I'm so concerned! Thank you for the video!

      Thanks for watching and I’m glad it helped you! Sometimes the development of ascites is the event that distinguishes you have advanced from NASH to NASH cirrhosis. Other factors can also be involved - heart and kidney function. A fluid sample and clinical context usually distinguishes the cause. Avoiding salt is the biggest thing you can do. At times the fluid isn’t in the abdomen but in the wall of the belly which is different but has similar underlying causes.

    I have had abdominal swelling with no pain and I keep buying new trousers. I look pregnant. I don't even drink alcohol much. I do find it difficult to walk up steep stairs now.

      I have every symptom you have and haven’t heard of when it comes to liver cirrhosis. This is horrifically painful. I do drink a ton. Yesterday was my birthday so I got sushi, vodka, and THC. Eating makes it so bloody bad but I don’t realize it until after. I have endometriosis and it’s reminding me of when that was at its worse, just higher. I am a little short of breath and it is noticeable to me just existing in recent months, but the pain is so bad I take as shallow of breaths as I can because breathing is so awful. Another thing with me…if I eat or even just if I drink vodka during the day, I like to down at least three liters of water in between repeating the next day, but it’s bloody impossible. Taking a sip is worse than a healthy person doing a competition at an all you can eat buffet.

      Why didn’t you get checked out? I’m avoiding doctors for multiple reasons. A simple blood test would tell you if you have ascites. It doesn’t take a rock scientist for me to know three of my organs are failing. Four if you count the kidneys as two.

    Can ascites just make you look fat in the beginning? Not a hard basketball belly. But bigger at the bottom

    What kind of doctor should I see if I think I am having these symptoms? How do they verify ascites?

    • @MarkCooperMD
      @MarkCooperMD  Год назад

      Sorry you’re having these symptoms. Any symptom can be related to a host of possible diseases. Usually your primary doctor can evaluate whether it’s likely enough to warrant imaging, or whether something else is more likely, and guide you toward the right diagnosis. If they think a second perspective is warranted they may involve a specialist. What specialist is best depends on work up thus far.

    Sir what will happen to a patient who suffers with pancreatic cancer with ascites, how long one can survive?.. pls answer me sir is there a way to stop ascites.

    • @MarkCooperMD
      @MarkCooperMD  Год назад +5

      Ascites can be controlled best when it’s due to liver, heart, or kidney disease - then reducing sodium intake helps. When it’s due to a cancer it may improve if the cancer responds to chemotherapy. To manage it a drain can be placed, but this is most appropriate when a person has advanced cancer and is considered a palliative measure to provide comfort, not cure. I hope this gives you some points to discuss with your health care team. If this is for you or a loved one I wish you all the best.
