The detailed directions, which are very good, that come with the placemats absolutely freaked me out. Thanks for the video which makes it less scary - actually makes it easy!
I just love how thoroughly you explain things. Even though I may not try every project, I feel like I definitely could complete them with your instructions. Thanks so much for what you do!
Jen. I just finished making the Jakarta quilt as you go placemats. They turned out beautiful. Want to thank you for the instructions that you give. Make everything so much easier. thank you and Merry Christmas.
I have 3 cats and I would LOVE to decorate my table for all holidays. They however, think I’m doing it for them. I do however love sewing for all my family so these would be great gifts.
Haha. Cats think EVERYTHING is for them. My cat climbs up into the Christmas tree and knocks the ornaments off. Ugh. These make lovely gifts, however, and they're so fun and easy to make you'll want to make them for everyone you know! - Morgan
Thanks so much for sharing great tips and how to use the kit! I just bought the pre-lined placemats the other day and Moda Christmas jelly rolls. Your instruction is excellent I can even accomplish this! And it is fun for sure! Thank you very much!
Wow there are some unfriendly comments. I love this product and appreciate your video tutorial! Thanks for taking the time to showcase this great product!
I have just recently purchased two of these kits but have not started the projects. I'm waiting for the fabrics. Your tutorial was invaluable for the tips and tricks you showed us! Thank you so much!
Hi and thanks a million for another great tutorial and super project. You are so well prepared each time, you make it easy for us to understand how it goes. Have a wonderful day! 🌸🌸
The Quilt-As-You-Go placemats look so fun and easy! Thank you for sharing another great tutorial! Do they have other projects besides placemats for the Quilt-As-You-Go? I'd love to see all the wonderful projects out there!
Yes, they do! June Tailor makes quite a few of them, and you can find them all here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Search.aspx?k=june+tailor We currently have batting and kits for pet placemats, stockings, a casserole caddy, and a couple placemat variations. So glad you love the QAYG projects as much as we do! - Morgan
Love these placements and quilt as you go method! So easy. This technique reminds me of paper piecing without the batting. Another’s technique I really enjoy sewing. Another wonderful project and tutorial. Happy holidays!
Thank you so much for this comment and for watching! It is like paper piecing without the batting! We hadn't thought of that before. Happy holidays! Hope you have a wonderful time.
Great tutorial. I have too many projects going to get done for this Christmas, but may get now as I plan on starting early next year. This looks like an easy project, and easy is my favorite kind
Easy is our favorite kind too! haha. This would be great to pick up now and start after Christmas is over. We know exactly what you mean - we have too many projects as well! - Morgan
It would be terrific to be able to have a template to print for this project. Most of us have SO many batting scraps that would be just perfect for this type of project.
Great questions! We use June Tailor Quilt Basting Spray. We just do a very light spray to secure the backing to the placemat, and it didn't gum up the needle at all. We did spray it outside, so we didn't use a drop cloth, so we're not sure how well it would wash out. - Morgan
Hello everyone! We're trying out a new feature on RUclips called Premiere. This video will premiere on Tuesday, November 27 at 10 AM PST. The strips are 2.5" wide! If you want every placemat to be the same you'll need to use yardage, but if you want them to just coordinate but be different, a Jelly Roll might work. You need a total of 1/3 yd each of 8 fabrics to make the strips. To make all 6 placemats you'll also need 3/4 yd binding fabric and 1-1/4 yds backing fabric. It might be a scrappy project but it would be really cute! Send us a picture if you do use a Jelly Roll and let us know how it goes! - Morgan
My daughter received this as a gift, she is a beginner so needed some help with cutting. I cut the backing to the 14" x 19" but the backing isn't bigger than my batting with pattern. Do you always have to do quilting when you make patch work? I dont think I can do quilting on My sewing machine granted I dont know how to use the different kinds of sewing foot, maybe thats why.
The quilting is what holds the patchwork front to the batting to the backing. You certainly don't have to do elaborate quilting. You can "stitch in the ditch" and just follow the lines of the patchwork pieces, or you can do straight lines up and down the quilt. You can also hire out the quilting to a long-arm quilter. Quilt-as-you-go projects are fun because you don't have to worry about quilting it at the end - the quilting gets done while you're piecing it! - Morgan
