Depends, always gotta take into consideration who you're taking advice from. David goggins is an EXTREMELY introverted dude. He doesn't get along with most people. Maybe a good strategy for him, but if you are extroverted and like having amicable relationships it's not good advice. You don't have to do anything but be excellent. Set your boundaries and ditch people who aren't good to you. Simple.

@Peter Fairhurst I know in today's world, it's a very unpopular view, but I honestly believe that one of the most important roles a father plays in a daughter's life, is to teach "boundaries". With boundaries comes a sense of shame for bad behaviors. Couple the natural tendency of hypergamy, with an absence of "shame", and it offers a compelling explanation for the behavior of the "modern woman".

I'm the same as you in that I don't talk much about private matters, but I have a middle-aged daughter who resisted and resented my parenting for years, but seems to be opening her eyes. Time will tell. :)
@Peter Fairhurst EXACTLY. It seems the female brain is wired to rebel at every turn! My ex was BPD, and you can imagine the challenge of trying to raise a daughter only seeing her a few times a month! A lot of "tough love". I never once won a popularity contest. :) Thankfully, the effort seems to have paid-off. She's doing well, but she's still very resentful. I'm in the US, "down South in Dixie".

I have had this happen to me several times. Wow, it's crazy, they must have some sort of play book lol
Honestly, you have to love the whole aspect where they think you're still sitting by your phone, waiting for you to call.
That said, I had one I was involved with many a year ago and I have this weird habit where upon getting a new phone, I actually transfer over the numbers. So when I got the new phone, her and I were still talking... For about a week afterward.
Turns out, I have that phone for about eight years. Around the end of those eight years, a call comes up from Shannon Gomez (Not real surname) and I'm kind of like... "The hell does SHE want?" We didn't end in bad terms or anything, but it was weird to see her name. So I texted her, with "Hey, what's up?" She responds the whole "Who dis?" thing, leaving me like "Seriously? You called me, Shannon, just now."
I then scrolled up and saw the last time we texted was two years prior when she supposedly butt dialed me... Six years after we last had contact. I know how utterly weird it is for someone to have the same phone for eight years... But she seriously went on and on like "I don't even know who this is." My reaction of course was to read that and think (Rick Sanchez voice) "Lying, bitch." Seriously, who the hell just butt dials someone like that? Where the probable many phones she's had since we went our separate ways, yet my number is still in her phone, which means my name showed up whimen I texted her... Yet she then wants to get fucking attitude like she's so important that she calls people and than doesn't know who they are?

After she goes off or tries to turn on the sugar with you, then respond with: " I'm sorry, I'm going to have to block you, goodbye, good luck" *block*
She will not have gotten the attention/validation she was seeking. She will have had any avenue of potentially talking her way back with you thwarted. She will not be able to twist, alter or post to others lies or anything you said to further harm you and any future relationships. She will know, no matter how deluded she is that you have zero interest in her. Once blocked, that is the undeniable "NO!" she can't miss. It will be highly unlikely, unless she is mentally ill that she will seek other means to communicate with you. If she does, then seek legal means to make her stop, this text trail you generated will be good evidence in that regard.
When they're married, I send the texts to their husband and tell them "Your wife is shopping around for your replacement."

I was dark on my social media for a few years as I built my business, began having a lot of business colleagues ask to connect and got back on to join the group chats. The very first post in 3 years is me being tagged at a party at my massive new house and what do you know, THREE ex girlfriends and TWO former brief flings had sent me a message congratulating me and asking all kinds of questions about my life leading to them trying to get invited over. I think of it this way. If a woman dumped or rejected you, you get on your mission, level up and move on. I had an ex that kept contacting me after she left me for the guy she was cheating on me with. I think she did it to try and get a rise out of me and it seemed to aggravate her that I was short and simple and hung up ASAP. She married that guy and 6 years later she contacts me on myspace and tells me her sob story of how she was a single mother now cause the guy cheated on her, asking how I was doing since she heard I just graduated with an engineering degree and was doing well. I showed it to my friends and we had a good laugh. Buh-bye.

my flatmate's ex GF contacted him once, he decided to invite her over. FFFFF $hit out of her to the point where books were falling off from the shelfs. I know they had episode of living together at some point in the past and he told me that he throw her from the flat like 11PM on rainy spring day. She begged him to stay over night even on the couch. Butt hat did not helped, when she left he replaced locks in the front door just in case she had extra key or something - who does that at the midnight XD Other funny thing was that this dude was opposite of 666 - short, kinda broke and no muscles. But he had mindset of a fricking PIMP! He knew exactly which strings to pull, which buttons to press. He was treating chicks like a garbage and yet they clinged to him like crazy. 100% pimp material.

I had an ex, who I had dated on and off for about a year, reach out to me a few months ago. Apparently she had married, got cheated on and was going through a divorce. I was and am still in a great, meaningful relationship with my girlfriend now. I respectfully put it out there that I am in a relationship with someone and I'm not available. She says cool, I just need a friend and then starts trying to entice me with all the things I wanted when I was in a relationship with her. I didn't even reply anymore because she clearly realized I was the best she ever had and wanted that back, but I'm not about to give up something great now, to something that was subpar then and now. Never backtrack guys, it'll end up the same way as before.
When I found out that ex's do this for validation, as in, they don't really care about your feelings I was floored. It's all about how they feel, no matter what they did to you.

It depends on why and how the relationship ended. If she was shitty to you and then wants to check up on you, she's probably not doing as good as she thought she would and didn't care about you to begin with. If the relationship ended on a good note, then it might be a different story.
My ex left me when I was about to lose job, discarded me and left me depressed. She even tried to blame me for her 2nd breakup after cause I was begging her and that's why she misbehaved that guy and that guy left her. Then within 3 months she married a guy who is 10 years older than her. Sometimes I think about revenge then I remind myself she is already crap and wasting energy on her will be stupid thing to do. Now I have enough time to focus on career and fitness. The way she left after 5 years relationship, she will regret one day.

I was contacted by a girl, who wasn't my ex but i was in friendzone with her. At the time i had this delusion like many guys that one day she will be interested romanticly. Long story short.. I lost contact with her as she got married and had a kid, who was typical asshole (i didn't know the guy only what she described about him, he might have been cool dude who knows) i didn't even noticed any red flags with her.. So after a year she hits me up and complains how her life is boring now after marriage and child, and that she wants to meet up with me.That she wants to probably divorce the guy because she is bored or whatever

Went through a bad break up last year, not amicable at all. Shortly after she starts contacting me to talk about the aftermath. I politely declined her advances. Then she starts being more intense to the point where I blocked her from everything. Unfortunately, she has access to other phones and starts to send me messages again. Every single new number she contacts me from, gets blocked.
Fellas, you need to have a back-bone. Your word has to mean something. The moment you play along after deciding to end things, she will think you can be manipulated, more than she manipulated you during the relationship. Keep strong and don't look back.

One regret I have is contacting my ex after a year or two, telling her I was sorry for what happened, try to "hang out" with her, crap like that. Back in March, she sends me a friend request on FB when the last messaged to her was I have a passport back in October of 2019. I think she heard through the grape vine that I was going to be a Mariner and no idea why she sent it. Just deleted it. Now like he said, don't let them re enter your life but also do not try to re enter their life. If you don't have closure, just accept that you never will. Don't try to get it. Her sending that request doesn't bother me, me trying to re enter life does. Go outside, get away from everyone and everything you know, quit that shitty job, play deaf, ignore people, etc

Very true. I haven't got everything sorted out in my life at the moment and my GF dumped me yesterday- had been coming for a while and she said 'You'' always be in the spot you are." I just said 'OK.' If that's what she thinks that's fine. I do believe that dating a woman with kids isn't great if you've got goals that go beyond working 9-5 and having enough money for retirement. If your goals go beyond that then dating women with kids will not help you fulfil your goals. My now ex had kids and she was pressuring me to move in and at first I admit that I was looking at it was a viable thing but then I realised that my life would never progress beyond the standard set by many others- work, watch TV, eat, and sleep. Gym and education goals and the pursuit of my purpose would never be fully pursued.
From this moment on things are changing- I am a work in progress and I will become better.
I think most of my exes just do it to reassure themselves they still mean something to me. I can’t imagine why that would matter. They are the past for a reason.
