May I suggest. Get 5# of onions. Chop them up. Using your chopper. Put 1 cup of chopped onions in snack bags. Freeze flat. Then put those bags in a freezer bag and keep frozen. When you cook grab a frozen bag and add to pot. Bam. Done!

For me - intolerant, not fully allergic - it's worth it to pay a bit more for pre-chopped frozen onions instead. The savings are not worth the streaming/flu-like symptoms to me, but I see why you do it 😊
I do bulk buy, chop and freeze carrots, peppers and zucchini, and tend to use frozen veggies instead of fresh (that would rot in the fridge🤭). This way I can grab these prepped bags and just dump them into the crockpot for ragu etc. as needed, without waste 💗

When I get stuck I pretend I’m in someone else’s house (like my Mum’s who had a lot of clutter) and think, “Why are you keeping this?” I imagine their protest or excuse and the looks on their face and mine. I also look over it more to see if it’s broken to further strengthen the argument to not keep it. I didn’t really do this before, the emotion got me or the what if I need it filled my mind. This removes me from the guilt and makes the decision objective over an item. 😊

We had to start our decluttering journey in the basement. That was so that we could even have room for a "Time Will Tell" box/boxes. This was easier to do as we hadn't seen most of the stuff there in years. When that space was tidy, it felt great and we moved on to other areas. Currently, clothing is our top priority, donating and consigning which is fun! The kitchen is next! Such a good feeling!

One of my best memories around second grade is of playing with several classmates around a big tree on the edge of the school yard. We all divided up into the mommies, daddies, and children and played house using sticks, acorns, moss, and whatever grew around there. We literally went into another world so much that no one heard the bell ring. It was so magic! Now I am 81 and am saddened to see neighborhood after neighborhood with no one outside. The kids are all playing video games. That is no life. There were always kids playing outside in the 40's and 50's. Thank you for reminding me how important outdoor play is, even for us old people!

I would start in the place that bugs you the most. Dawn giving us 'permission' to get rid of things even if they were a gift or we spent money on was really helpful. I was most embarrassed by what people would see when they were in my front door, but most inconvenienced by the extra stuff crammed in my kitchen. My fastest 'wins' were getting rid of the ridiculous number of mugs in my kitchen cupboard so I had a place within easy reach for bowls and plates too, and getting rid of old bedspreads, mattress covers, and pillows I had replaced but not gotren rid of the old ones. My house had much more storage space than I thought once I started getting rid of all the stuff that was duplicates, had been replaced, or was not likely to be used.

I think I've been following you over 2 years, maybe 3? I'm not sure! But I stumbled across your video on RUclips somehow, and you have literally transformed my home and life. We were living in around 1,000 sq ft with our family of 6 when I first started decluttering. The kitchen was first, and toys next. I felt like I was drowning, suffocating in stuff and when we moved into our new house about 2 years ago, it felt so empty ( It's 3,400 sq ft). I was determined not to fill it up and continued to declutter. My sister even told me, "Your house is barren. You've gotten rid of 75% of your stuff." I took that as a compliment 😆 This lifestyle isn't for everyone, but for me it brings peace and much less anxiety. Thank you!

I don't want to take time to pack and unpack it and pay someone to move it if I don't really use it or want it.

I started A shelf in my bathroom and A drawer in my kitchen. And feeling how nice it was to get things in and out felt SO good!! And with those muscles, I started sections of rooms. Over a year in and my house feels so different in such a great way! Start small, build those muscles (as Dawn says) and keep watching to stay motivated!! You got this 💪🏼

I started decluttering when I was getting overwhelmed by everything. It brought peace of mind, it felt easier to breathe afterwards and it brought a sense of accomplishment. Your videos motivated me keeping up the work little by little. I started in the kitchen and that was a good choice for me as there are no sentimental stuff there, so it was easy to ask myself if I really need and use this.
I took a year off from decluttering as my dad passed away and there was a lot to manage there. But getting started on a second round now. We brought some bags of stuff from my dad's place and they haven't found a place yet. And the sense of stuff creeping up again has started to weigh me down. So high time to start peeling the second skin on the onion. Thanks Dawn for your encouragement and walking alongside (even if you don't know me but know that you are).

"Highly highly highly simplified", I had to laugh. Chopper: I hated the PRE chop to make veggies fit the small space. It is SO LOUD and awful for frequent migraine sufferers. Kit: Last summer I purged over 300 dishes that were given to us as wedding /birthday gifts. 3 sizes Plates, 2 kinds of cups, 3 kinds of bowls, 3 kinds of glasses, punch bowl and so much more-- ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS. Clothing: Love Courtney, hubby and I each have about 100 items for ALL seasons, NOT counting jewelry though. We have a moderate walk in closet and all our clothes do not even fill 2 walls of the 3. Almost at 225,000 items gone following Your/ Dawn's challenges & contests in the Minimal Mom Mentorship group.

Thank you for all you do! Your channel has been so helpful to me as a mom of 4 kids 7 and under. A specific way you've helped me is not getting all the sentimental commemoratove objects or keeping everything. For example, I keep one photo ornament for each of our kids for their first Christmas for me to enjoy for the rest of my life. I keep a very limited small box of meaningful things from their childhood that I will offer to them someday. My mom is amazing and I love her so much. But the amount of items she saved of mine is beyond what I could use, want to look at, and keep "for memory's sake". It's freeing to operate from a more simple mindset.

I did my basement first. I found I could make the easiest decisions with the most impact. A lot of it was storage that I finally had permission to let go of (!!!) and it gave me the confidence to do the rest of my house. It also was out of site so didn't stress me out as much if I had to leave part way. And anytime I found things throughout the day (stay at home with young kids!) I could put it down in my basement in my donate or time will tell boxes. Kids toys, clothes and kitchen though was definitely what I went the furtherest in terms of decluttering and keeping things super super minimal. There's just so much extra and unnecessary things in those categories that you use everyday- and know what you're using or not using. Thank you Dawn- I watch your videos every week and it's changed everything for me!!!

I started in the kitchen, with my silverware drawer, kept only my favorites and only 6 of each and 2 sharp knifes, everything else went in a time will tell box (because it was a few month before my son moved in his own apartement, and I already knew that he soon would move out, so I kept the overflow and he is using it now in his home.
I was so amazed by the result of only simplyfiing the one drawer, and how much I liked it. I would open it only to look into it, how nice it felt and has been since then. And that motivated me a lot. So I have been decluttering and systemizing since then. The kitchen is huge, so is the closet and the paperstuff, especially have your incoming paper sytemized makes such a difference.
Thank you Dawn, you have inspired me and given me real solutions! I have ADHD and had burnout and was totally overwhelmed with my stuff, thanks to you I finally can deal with it, and my home starts coming together. You helped change my life bigtime!

So many great points and lessons that ring true in this house after trying your suggestions. You’ve transformed our home and we were considered pretty organized at the start of our decluttering journey . As a mom to a (now adult) child with high functioning autism and sensory avoidance as a result who had spent hours and hours and HOURS at OT,PT and speech therapies while everyone else got to let their kids play outside or go to sports games or dance practices etc, it hurt my heart to hear sensory being dismissed as something we can get kids over by sending them outside to play when you talked about toys. (I know tone can’t be displayed in text so know this comes from a place of love.❤). It’s because of those toys specifically (and great professionals who worked with her with these toys ) that she holds a professional job today! Thank you for all you do and this channel! ❤

Thanks for another motivating video. I'm by no means a minimalist, however, I am at a point of wanting to declutter. Last weekend, I had a relative go through Christmas decorations that I no longer use and she took two 'large' bins. I still have two left, will offer them to a couple other relatives, and then off to the thrift store they will go. My new plan is to assign one or two rooms per day M-F and eliminate 5 items from that room. Both are small steps, but at least steps in the right direction! Thanks for the motivation!

I keep a maybe box and a donation box in my hall closet. If I’m on the fence I throw it in the maybe box and see how it feels to live without or if I go looking for it. When my donate box is full, I go through the maybe box and see if I’m ready to donate any of those items.Sometimes just moving the item from the place it’s always been, changes our opinion of it.

I was surprised how much more cooking I did after I decluttered my kitchen! (Although I’m hating cooking again at the moment so maybe I need to declutter again!) I haven’t got kids but I know I need to declutter my own “toys” in my craft room! Hahaha

I kon-maried my home in 2020 so I started with clothes. For me that was a great start. It was easy to decide to throw away socks with holes, underware with no elastic etc. I also had lost a lot of weight, so it was a relief to get rid of clothes that didn't fit me anymore.

My sister bought something interesting in order to declutter some of the stuffed animals my nieces own. It's essentially a giant beanbag cover that you can fill with stuffed animals. She puts the stuffed animals she doesn't think they want anymore, and then takes them out and donates them if they don't ask for them. It was a great investment!

This is inspiring me to go back through some of the kids toys I’ve been rotating out- why am I keeping them even though the kids aren’t asking for them? Because I think they are good toys and am hoping them will become interested in them again. I’m realizing this is a waste of space and mental energy!
You should do a Q & A about kids toys cuz there are so many nuanced scenarios that we parents can’t get passed. Love the work and information you put out into the world for people! Thank you and God bless you!

Start from the left/ right side of a doorway to whatever room, even a “guest toilet”, follow along the wall going through all the places from left to right/ right to left. Don’t think “where to start”, just pick a wall and direction, and follow along … good luck!

Clothes. I’m not a fashion person so my sister came over and I tried every single item on and she said yes or no. All the no items I donated. Now I can’t see everything I own, there’s breathing room, and I don’t need to switch for the seasons. Going forward I only buy intentional pieces. Did this a few years ago and I still love it. So easy to get dressed and put away.

INTERNATIONAL VIEWERS: I hve followed Dawn since the very beginning and I can say that her knowledge in this area and her ability to communicate is phenomenal!!
Here is my struggle- I am someone who moved overseas from the USA. Where I live is good- we have options BUT not near what the USA has. Some of the items that I no longer use I struggle to get rid of- especially !!! the stuff that I shipped here. Some of it is honestly irreplaceable. Unless I spend 3000 to fly back to the USA to buy it or equal amounts to fly to Papua New Guinea to replace items. Also here they have a comparable item but… for example, I purchased a kitchen mixer- standard- and it was 500$. So replacing items is extremely expensive 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨
But with that said my husband and I did a massive declutter and did end up getting rid of some of those items and while it was difficult, now that it is gone, I am honestly very thankful to have my home reduced and simplified even further. You can’t change the fact that items are irreplaceable. You may need to be extra sure because replacing them is not really an option. But! 😊 every person who wants a simplified home has to learn to live with less and fewer options.
I say all of those for those who are watching in a different country. It is a bit more difficult but the rewards are still worth it!

I think the kitchen is a great place to start, because we typically don’t have emotional attachments to items in our kitchen. Plus, having a simple, uncluttered kitchen makes a big difference in our quality of life every day!

If you’re saving kitchen stuff for teens as they’ll be moving out in the next couple of years, go through it with them now. I saved old kitchenware for them for years and especially the younger one said, “I want new stuff!” Who doesn’t? When I moved out in the early 90s of my parents’ home I wasn’t offered anything or took anything other than my clothes and stuff I had in my room (no furniture) and my dog. I was sure my kids would have appreciated the offer of stuff as they were students still but no.

I can say the opposite is so true as well. After coming home from the holiday, and in the flurry of unpacking, trying to get back into routine, restock the empty fridge, get the pets readjusted to the time zone, etc etc. There’s just SO MUCH INVENTORY and I haven’t been able to get anything done bc all my energy and focus gets sucked into trying to calm the physical chaos surrounding me. So instead of working, I find myself doing all the laundry or reorganizing the tea or suddenly unable to resist the need to purging the medications.

I’m in the UK and I think we tend to wash differently, that said, I pack dirty clothes in the piles that they’re going to go in the laundry, so whites, lights and darks. It takes the work out of sorting when we’re home, just unzip the case and go. Get some long life milk and oven rolls in for when you come home, and frozen pizzas until you can do a shop x

It’s funny the things that work amazingly for one person and becomes clutter for another. I guess it depends on personality and in this case, how many chopped vegetables you use each week to justify it. I keep hanging on to my Instapot because I want to love it and it has the potential to do so many great things. But, I’ve learned that I already have a different method of cooking those meals so I naturally grab my crockpot or Dutch oven instead and don’t even consider the Instapot.

After painting my kitchen cabinets last month, I decided to see how much I can live without in the kitchen. It’s a lot less. Granted I’m not cooking much due to depression but it’s a worthwhile experiment even just to put the rest in a few tubs for a few months. Sure there’s been a few things I had to pull out of storage but it’s my way of calming the kitchen down which is what I need right now. ❤

    • @yahyeet4383

Creating a simple meal plan might help. Maybe 4 meals you can make each week without having to put too much thought into it. Make enough for leftovers so you’re cooking every other day and then just repeat the meal plan each week until you start feeling better. Sometimes fast foods and convenience foods are the best we can do and that’s ok, but those foods are usually processed and work against our mental and physical health. It’s a catch 22 when you’re already not feeling well. Blessings to you ❤
