Had downshifting problem on my 2004 V92tc at 10,000 miles. It was a factory goof that Victory did not warranty. E Z fix, as illustrated in this video. But, reco one simple addition. When replacing old ratchet shifter with new one, place a small washer on the shifter shaft that pokes thru the cover so it is against the inside of the cover, and results in your new ratchet shifter being more fully engaged with the main gear. (IE, the washer works as a spacer and moves the ratchet shaft in a bit further for full gear engagement.) I have ridden my bike 36,000 trouble free miles since this simple solution. Had Victory installed a 10cent washer here in the first place, the shifting problems would have never occurred. Happy trails. Avoid deers, drunks, druggies and texters!!! Thanks for making this video. I had to replace my leaking gasket on the primary for the 3rd time and putting the cover back on the bottom would not go back on, at 12:15 was the missing step for me. Spent 2 days trying to clean off a burnt on gasket. Other 2 times I had the shop do it. Fun weekend. I hope I don't have to do it again anytime soon..
I laid my bike down about 3 weeks ago and the shifter linkage broke off... I have the option to buy it back and this video just made my decision a hell of a lot easier thanks boss!!!
Good luck. One piece of advise. do not try and take the sloppiness out of the shifter linkage. I replaced the shifter bushing and hand fit them so it worked smooth as silk. But when I took it for a ride all it did was make it hard to shift. I guess that why MA Vic. made them so sloppy. RIDE SAFE!
Great video xcbobct! I just got an '07 Kingpin Tour and the shifting is kinda rough in my opinion. Sometimes it's hard to get it into neutral. Downshifting is kinda noisy, too. At first I was thinking transmission oil change, but from your video, I now know what it is, and now I know how EASY it is to do it myself. Thanks again brother and RIDE SAFE!
Watched this again as I have the parts and was going to change it out this weekend but I also just seen your comment about the shifter being loose to shift correctly. I do have the brass bushing from witchdoctors and I may have started having issues right after that. I know it is still sloppy with them in maybe not sloppy enough! Will maybe try to open them up a bit before I take it all apart. Thanks again.
Not gonna beat you up for torqueing the cover bolts but more important is to start tightening the bolts from the middle out. I use the torque wrench in my arm. Basically use common sense on the size bolt your tightening. On a cover torqueing is overkill. Actually, If there is a tighten limiter on that driver you used to remove them, it would be the perfect tool to put them back in. Good job and glad it did the trick.

Thanks for the video. It's great. You didn't really say what was the problem with the old Shifter Ratchet or at least I didn't hear. Was it simply worn out and how can you tell? I have a a problem where my 2010 Visions stays stuck in first or sometimes in second gear. If I pull in the clutch and rev the motor it usually releases. Sounds like a similar problem to yours.
@@goergit2513 Not really. I'm not sure what the problem is. I do find that when that happens it's also time to replace the oil. I found a tech that suggested I go to fully synthetic oil 20W-50. That's what I have in there now and it seems to be working better.
