  • Hey everyone, welcome to my second channel where I'm going to be making art videos in which I test art supplies, show you some of my art work from the last 10 years, walking you through my creative process and trying to improve my own art along the way!
    Today I'm testing out the Caran D'Ache Neocolor® II Watersoluble Wax Pastels for the first time and I'm really, really excited to share my swatches, doodles and a completed art piece with you. These look like regular crayons but once you add water, they behave a lot like watercolour paints - they're absolutely fascinating!
    If you want to support my work, you can get your own Caran D'Ache Pastels via this affiliate link:

    Commenting for engagement mostly; I used to watch art channels a lot but I lost interest about a year ago.
    I still want to support my favorite creator who helped me escape a cult and by extension saved my life. Love you girl! ❤️

    Kyra recognising that crayons aren't food = most intelligent dog I've ever seen. I guess you could take these out without water, lay down the colours dry and then do the brushing at home for extra convenience. Look forward to seeing more on this channel 😊

    I loved this! This is the art channel I didn’t know I needed! Can’t wait to see more from you. Art is one of my special interests and always has been. Caran D’Ache products are amazing! I work primarily with soft pastels and pastel pencils and the Caran D’ache ones are dreamy. The brand also prides themselves on their lightfastness , so very useful if you are selling your work 🥰

    Caran d’ache makes a plastic board with a slightly rough texture specifically for these crayons. The crayon will scrape off enough to make color to “paint” with. I have added open stock to my collection. you can also dip the brush directly on the tip to “paint “ with. I even like them dry. They layer really well dry. Your caterpillar is great!

  • @patriciarobledo3954
    @patriciarobledo3954 7 месяцев назад

    Caran D'ache makes a blending palette, but I use a cheap white cutting board from the dollar store. Get one that has a little bit of texture so the crayons rub easily, works k st as well IMO. Neo II are open stock so can add to your collection easily. The Lyra brand of water soluble wax crayons are pretty good, and their colors are slightly different, so they're nice to add to your collection, and they cost less. I love using water soluble wax and oil pastels, and have bought almost every brand available, but the Neocolor II are my favorites by far, in spite of the expense. They last so long that cost per use is very reasonable.
    Love seeing your Staffy, I have a Staffy mix grand pup that I adore.

    after wanting these for years now, i ordered a whole starter kit for watercoloring-- the 30 set, some paper, palettes, a lap desk, etc but i figured i can use old makeup brushes to paint with so i didn't bother with more just yet other than some aqua pens/brushes; i hope you've heard of them! they look SO fun and absolutely ideal to use with these.
    also if you haven't heard of the frugal crafter, look her up! she has some amazing tutorials using these. the sunflower one blew my mind! there are actually quite a few other really helpful videos i've found on here too; it's amazing how much you can do with one product and a few techniques. lmk if you'd like me to post some links, although i'm sure you can search them up and probably already have hahaha.
    i'd like to elevate the use of crayola, so i'm also using those markers and crayons with the caran d'ache as well, i just need to be careful with how/where/why i'm layering them but they've been such a great cheap option while i saved for artist grade~

    Spraying workable fixative helps if you need to use other media on top. Not perfect, but helps to put a texture over the wax so pens can grab onto. It takes some experimentation. Hope this helps, I love this medium.

  • @bagelprince3

    If you work with normal water colour just take two cups with water (one to clean your brushes and one to get new water). You'll find that you'll need way less water if you aren't doing this already.
    Hope that helps anyone :))
    But that caterpillar is really cute, almost like Kyra.

    OMG that caterpillar is so adorble🥺💕 I always see these at my local art supply store but because they are so expensive I always walked right past them, especially cause I personally don't like the texture of watercolour crayons/pencils and would rather use normal pans😅 Also, as a side note, from what I've seen of your watercolour paintings, you seem to use cellulose paper for most of them, but if you ever want to step it up, I would recommend using 100% cotton paper🎶

    • @moreracheloates
      @moreracheloates  2 года назад +2

      I do use 100% cotton paper for my best watercolour paintings, so all the little animals ones on my website like the duckling, frog and piglets :) racheloates.uk/art/watercolour

      @niki_artsu 2 года назад +1

      @@moreracheloates Ah, I see; then I must have remembered just seeing most of the others😅 and then I also have to applaud your ability to still use cellulose paper, cause personally, I'm so used to cotton, I could never go back to it even if it's just for a sketch🥲

    I recommend using more pigment and a lot less water. Try using them more like oil pastels that blend with a little water.

    These videos do make me want to start drawing again. I haven't done that seriously in what, almost 15 years? I'm kinda hoping you'll start doing art streams or other live streams again so I can draw along but otherwise I guess I'll just start drawing stuff while watching these videos or something.

    I paint with oils and acrylics so was super glad to find this new art channel of yours! I used to be VERY good at watercolour. I've never really been into crayons but this is definitely inspiring though! Di you ever paint with acrylics or oils? I paint oil portraits. I could send you some through DM on Instagram?
