For young Sheldon Cooper, it isn't easy growing up in East Texas. Being a once-in-a-generation mind capable of advanced mathematics and science isn't always helpful in a land where church and football are king. And while the vulnerable, gifted and somewhat naive Sheldon deals with the world, his very normal family must find a way to deal with him. His father, George, is struggling to find his way as a high school football coach and as father to a boy he doesn't understand. Sheldon's mother, Mary, fiercely protects and nurtures her son. For 12 years on "The Big Bang Theory," audiences came to know the iconic, eccentric and extraordinary Sheldon Cooper. In "Young Sheldon," audiences get a chance to meet him in childhood, as he embarks on his innocent, awkward and hopeful journey toward the man he will become. Jim Parsons, who plays the adult version of Sheldon on "The Big Bang Theory," narrates.

Sheldon thinking of alternate universes where he said something before his dad left is what led to his Nobel Winning research on Super Asymmetry, which ties into proving the multiverse exists.
By proving it to be theoretically correct, Sheldon proved there is a universe in which he told his dad he loved him. And one where he never died.

It's really beautiful how the whole series turns out to be Sheldon not only writing his memoirs but also processing his long-ago grief and coming to a better understanding of who George was. In this way, there is character development for both young Sheldon and adult Sheldon in this series.

I’ve watched these episodes three or four times already and the funeral never fails to make me cry. It’s probably the most emotional episode of both YS and TBBT, even more so than the episode in which Howard’s mom died (in terms of the episode itself. I know the actress who played her died and that makes it sadder in general)

Interesting flaw in the funeral episode: it’s been mentioned that George Cooper was in the army and served in Vietnam War, yet in his funeral he’s not dressed in the army formal attire and his coffin doesn’t have an American flag on top of it 🫡🇺🇸

Missy: (to Sheldon) We’re talking about Dad’s funeral! Why don’t u care?!
Also Missy: People keep saying they’re sorry. It’s SO stupid!
Me: Do u want people to care or not?

    • @rossanamind5881
      @rossanamind5881 День назад

This may be a personal interpretation, obviously Missy is feeling her father’s death through anger. Everything will set her off, cuz that anger won’t leave, wether people are there or not because George is gone. And, maybe Missy wanted Sheldon to show a caring side since he’s family. Sometimes, it feels alien for people you barely know or speak to say “I’m so sorry for your loss, he was a great man”… who knows, but I found really brilliant that all kids show different sides of grief, so we can at least empathize the most with one and understand how the others go through it…

    7x13: Funeral
This might be just me, but I feel like because of how upset Mary was about George leaving all of them, her way to cope was to reflectively view him in a bad light, which is why on The Big Bang Theory, Mary mostly jabs at her late husband when she gets a chance, at least in the earlier seasons. Same goes for Sheldon especially, who was affected a lot. His end narration even confirms why he would paint his dad on Big Bang as an abusive, absent, alcoholic of a father who cared more about his liquor and football than his family, but here it was nowhere near anything like that. He had a tattered image because in grief, everything turned negative, so the little things with his dad became his whole image in memory. I’m just glad that now Sheldon is at a maturity where he finally sees his dad in a good light again and for who he was.
I think all the family had good and emotional moments at the funeral, but for me, Missy’s had to be the one that hit me the hardest. If you remember back in Season 5, George took Missy to Red Lobster again as a little “daddy-daughter date” to connect. But Missy was far too embarrassed to even go in there because now friends she knew went there on real dates. She loved it when she was 9, but now all she wanted was to go anywhere else. So they did, which George accepted simply as his little girl growing up. But now, as Missy goes up to give her father one last goodbye, what is the first memory that comes to her mind? Red Lobster. Despite all her teenage angst and feelings, those moments were truly the ones she treasured the most, and finally gives him the proper thanks for that day, and for everything. It really goes to show the bond they had that the rest didn’t really have in the same way.
    7x14: Memoir
A little side thing, but to me the room in Sheldon and Amy’s suburban home where he’s writing his memoir looks so much like the future home room in How I Met Your Mother where Future Ted’s kids sit on the couch as their dad explains all his stories. Like I don’t know if it’s the colors or the design, but that’s what I’m reminded of for some reason, and I think it makes it work even more, considering given Leonard’s age must be around 13 or so, it’s very likely the year is around the 2030s or so, way after Big Bang’s finale.
This is found in both episodes but I want to mention it here. Back in Season 11 of the Big Bang Theory, when Sheldon reunited with Georgie to invite him to his wedding, they had a big argument where Georgie tells off Sheldon for not being there for them and letting him know exactly who had to take care of everything when he went away to Caltech after his dad’s passing. “Mom was a mess, Missy was a dumb teenager, I had to look after both of them.” And as you would expect here, Missy is not dumb in the sense of intelligence, but her feelings of the loss of her dad make her act out way more than usual. And Mary’s need for their baptism not only stems from hopeless desperation, but also fear. The last thing she wants is for something like this to happen to one of them. The scene she has with Georgie in the prayer garden is practically big confirmation on everything Adult Georgie was talking about. The family is in a very troubling place, and now that the providing man is gone, he completely feels the need to step in, without even fully knowing if he’s ready for all that. And to fully nail it home, the last scene is of Sheldon finally making it to Caltech. He’s exactly where he’s supposed to be, and the final note of the show is a happy and exciting one as we know all what’s awaiting him in his new adult life in California. But what I would love from the new Georgie and Mandy spinoff this fall is to continue focus on how this family is suffering, especially with Sheldon gone now too. How they handle it, but also how they keep Sheldon in the dark for his own protection. You can see a little bit in the last episode that Georgie is starting to become a little fed up with Sheldon’s demeanor, but I would love to see the breaking point that caused the divide between these brothers from Big Bang.
Finally, it’s really small, but I love that the dynamics between Sheldon and Amy in the present hasn’t skipped a beat from when we last saw them 5 years ago. Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik talked a lot about how stepping back into these characters was familiar and a lot of it came back naturally, but because this show is single-camera, and Big Bang was multi-cam, it felt very different at the same time. And you can definitely feel that. I also love all the little set pieces from Big Bang, especially that iconic couch. And my one question with Penny babysitting their daughter is what happened with her and Leonard, and their kid? I’d love to see a spinoff that focuses on them raising a family.
But overall, what an amazing end to 7 years of this show. I couldn’t have asked for it any other way. I started this series around the same time you did, so it was fun to kind of be watching at the same time. You’re completely right about their now being a hole, because it was definitely impactful in that way. We will miss Young Sheldon ❤

7:10 - *_That flashback scene of George and Missy with the lobster FLOORED me when I first watched it... Still feel it now that I have seen it multiple times!_*
8:59 - *_Zoe Perry deserves an Emmy Award for that scene alone! (The writers for the whole episode deserves their own Emmy too!)_*
*_Hey, Cody! If you want a show to replace Young Sheldon, If you haven't seen them yet, I would highly recommend either Night Court (1984-1992) and it's sequel (2023) or Frasier (1993-2004) plus it's sequel (2023): Night Court was my favorite sitcom growing up, it has a lot of heart, had a very progressive streak through it (So would be very interested to hear your thoughts on those episode when they come around) and is all around wacky. Frasier, on the other hand, was my all time favorite sitcom before The Big Bang Theory came along and is an amazing exploration of clashes between generations & social classes, as well as the king of "Miscommunication Humour". In both cases, I think you'd have a blast watching and commenting on them._*

Missy having been the closer one to George might have herself been regretting things she has done in the past and said to her father when he was there which she now is feeling guilty of and all her emotional turmoil inside her made her angry. She is also a 14 year old who is equally sad like Sheldon. She literally lost the parent who was unbiased and had made efforts to build a connection with all the 3 of them without obsessing over Sheldon alone. No matter how emotionally mature you are compared to your twin nothing can make you ready to handle such a big emotional blow at such a young age. She needed time and support to get through this phase of life.

So the penultimate episode was kind of hard for me to watch because my mom had actually left (died) last year, so seeing a good father die was kind of like seeing my mom die all over again, but I got through that episode. And I know she’s healthy now and watching over me and my siblings. The line that Georgie said to his dad in the casket actually made me think of my eldest brother and how he said he would take care of everything when mom left, but I loved the ending despite it being emotional for me.
As for what could replace this- if you want a wholesome show that feels so good to watch, try watching Bluey if you haven’t tried it already. I’m 33 with no kids and I love the show because it is so adorable and cute and it reminds me of when I was a kid. If you haven’t tried watching Bluey, give it a watch on the channel. I can Guarantee you, you will fall in love with it just like you have this show, If you haven’t watched it already that is. 😁

    1. The Amazing Digital Circus, the biggest thing on the internet right now.
    2. The Last Of Us TV Show (you should also try the game if you haven’t).

While this was a good ending, and it was good seeing Amy and Sheldon again. I would have liked to see the whole TBBT cast, Sheldon's adult family, and any family the gang has in the future at like a cook out or gathering. To me that would have been the perfect ending to this franchise.

In the series finale, I remember a line from the Big Bang Theory that makes this prequel come to full circle. An this was said by an Adult Georgie.
“Mom was a mess. Missy was a dumb teenager. I had to take care of BOTH of them!” This line made a silent comeback because it’s the truth. Mary turned heavily towards religion but in doing so had isolated herself from her children which explains why her relationship with Georgie and Missy was so strained. Missy was showing aggression towards everyone and lord knows Mary wasn’t going to be there to help. Georgie and Connie were the ones who kept the family together while Sheldon being oblivious to his families fragile state went to Cal Tech.
Sheldon Cooper is a man who had a childhood filled with uncertainty but the man grew up to be one of the most brilliant minds and while yeah his kids aren’t exactly LIKE him, he’s trying to be the kind of father that George Senior would be proud of.

If you are looking for another show to react to, of course if you haven’t seen it…8 Simple Rules is a good show too! It stars John Ritter, Katey Sagal, and Kaley Cuoco (Penny from Big Bang Theory)!

The funeral part was really beautiful but I wasn't really satisfied with how it ended. They should've shown all the friends of big bang theory. They talked about Howard in a previous episode but there wasn't anything about Raj. If not they should've shown all the people one last time at the dinner table or something. They only showed Missy for the last time. The ending was beautiful but it didn't hit me hard as it did in big bang theory. Overall this show was really amazing to get to know after big bang theory because like you my favourite show of all time is Big bang theory

people express death in different ways, but also did you know Zoe Perry who's plays Mary Cooper is ACTUALLY Laurie Metcalf daughter in real life i know i couldn't believe it either. i think i was trying to figure her voice cause her and Laurie sound both sound so similar i know it wasn't Laurie Metcalf to be exact but you know it kinda threw me a bit, also she plays Sheldon's older Mary in the Big Bang Theory series so there is a connection there, but i can't believe she is Laurie Metcalf's daughter in REAL LIFE that's INSANING TO ME.
