Well said about Bruce being an underrated rhythm player. He was huge part of the Shadows sound and a big influence on noted rhythm guitarists such as Pete Townshend.

I think this is one of Hank's finest moments...chills whenever I hear this performance...the creak of the trem springs...the click of the selecter switch..that E octave trem slur...oo yeah! Great lesson x

As a kid in the sixties I loved The Shads and this was one of the 45s I bought. Yes it is the theme tune for the Edgar Wallace Mystery series of which many episodes were made. It is currently being shown every week on "Talking Pictures" TV channel. I love it----both the tune and the series.

One if my fave Shadows tune, they did some great instrumentals. Saw them back in the 60’s in Oxford Uk without Cliff, Hank and Bruce were really good singers, it was a great show.

Used to love Edgar Wallace… the opening credits were a lightbulb swinging with this theme. I was a wee bairn. We watched it after I got picked up from my grandads in my dad’s joiner’s van and gave a lift home to someone called Edgar Wallace. He was a glazier. He had cucumber sandwiches left over in a paper bag each day… so the music makes me see a swinging lightbulb and I always get the smell of linseed putty and cucumber. Incredibly strong memory. Brought it all back. Cheers!

A tricky little tune even for us seasoned guitar players. I can usually wing it on complex bebop jazz tunes but I STILL trip up on something like this. LOL. It sounds easy at first. BUT you've done it perfectly and I love the video.
Yea, I agree with you , I am totally a fan of 1950s/60s instrumental guitar in particular Lonnie Mack's version of "'Memphis" and everything connected to early Hank Marvin, having met the guy a few times in person.

Gotta love Hank! If you’re gonna go for a trilogy, my vote is ‘Wonderful Land’ - that & Apache are the 2 I remember from my long distant childhood…you have got the tone down like few others, well played sir.

Is it just me or did Hank miss the "root" G going down the main riff at the end of the song, seems now I'm always waiting for that to come whenever I hear this song. I still can't play this properly btw but your lesson is bound to set me right on that so cheers Adrian!

    Am E A7 D Dm Am Dm E. Cool Bruce's bit.
Did you know that Hank turns round and round when he plays the song because Edgar Wallace's bust revolves during in the intro to the TV show.

everybody misses this...at 13.49 when your doing the b chord and at other times .and this is for the rhythm and bass player..they don't stay on the b chord..they go to d minor then the E chord..over the years of seen people giving lessons on this song nobody and i mean nobody points this out.

You profess to be a big fan post-punk-new-wave guitarists. I am still yet to see you dedicate a video to Geordie Walker of Killing Joke. Surely, one of the most prodigious and productive guitarists of that genre. There are albums full of great guitar parts from Geordie that are yet to see the light of day on your channel of which I greatly admire. It's not just that I need you to illuminate how Geordie does what he does but selfishly I think he needs recognition (from you as a guitarist yourself) in the pantheon of post-punk guitarists. I have brought up this subject in other comments sections of your videos but Geordie uses a tremolo effect which at times (see the Fire Dances album) is reminiscent of Hank Marvin and the other 'Twang' guitarists of that era.

ok I just listened to the original, Hank doesn't really play anything at those moments. He doesnt linger on B chord anyway, otherwise it really clashes with D in bass

Not sure if this is true, The Shadows played and recorded Man of Mystery in the London Palladium Theatre late at night while empty, (no audience) so as to get a better echo on the opening chord. Sounds plausible.
