The first chapter of one of the books (Falling Down I believe) was Louis, the custodian (named after Louis Sachar, the author), had to carry a heavy computer up all 30 stories to Mrs. Jewls' class. When he finally brought it to her, she dropped it out of a window to demonstrate gravity to the students.

It sucks because she’s also a fun character for the most part, but as someone who was bullied relentlessly by a teacher in 5th grade, I cannot reconcile with her treatment of Todd. If she’d gotten onto the other kids too throughout the show to balance it out it would have been fine, but it’s like she purposefully singles him out, and since I know first hand what that kind of thing can do to a developing child’s psyche, it’s far more painful than funny to watch :(

I always liked Ms jewels design but I often remembered thinking she's very malicious to Todd (like the episode he had to grade her and make her "sympathetic" and Todd "the antagonistic one" reminds me of how some people feel about that one SpongeBob episode where Squidward got zapped by a electric fence)
Like maybe because I went through alot in school and yet wanted to be a teacher have me hyper critical of her, but I just feel like Ms. Jewels is somehow the teacher that needs the chill pill the most, even more so than the one that turns kids into apples(atleast she was like that with everyone 😅). I'm pretty sure Todd's the first and only kid to be written up to any serious degree in the school.

I just hope Wayside gets a reboot. There's not much problems with the show, it's just that characters in the show aren't introduced much. I was really hoping that we get to know more about each wacky characters but sadly, most of the time it's just Todd, Maricia, Myron, and Dana and the rest just act like bg characters.
Also is Caroline (green hair girl) in Mrs Jewls class or not? I keep seeing her in other classes wth

I've always really loved Sideways Stories (I never read the sequels though) and I think I heard somewhere once before that there was a TV show, but this video is the first time I learned anything about the show. I went into this video expecting to spend most of it indignant over something that was changed from the book, but that happened... well, it happened, but a lot less than I thought it would. I have mixed impressions on what they did with the characters, who were so much the highlight of the book that each chapter was basically a profile of each classmate and what made them unique, and as I got older I noticed how while a lot of them were just silly, others had interesting messages about human nature in the form of these exaggerated characters. I get the impression that a lot of that was lost in the show, but the characters seem fun enough on their own (I'm sure I'd still prefer the book though). On the other hand, I really love what the show did with the school building! Weird and impossible architecture is so cool to me, I think I would have watched the show just for that.

I remember getting defensive when TheMysteriousMrEnter did one of his typically scathing critiques on one of the old episodes, but to be fair to him, that was way back in the day.
