Clearly, Dr Hyman has never been hyperinsulinemic, or he wouldnt be talking about glycemic index as if its glycemic load. I agree it's good to eat broccoli and other foods with phytochemicals and fiber, but most carb-addicted folks are going to use his message as an excuse to eat all kinds of starches and fructose all the livelong day.
One of the first things I noticed cutting carbs of all kinds including added sugars, my teeth looked amazing! Tarter gone, and my gums weren't inflamed. Speaking as someone with ME - going low carb 5/6 years ago radically transformed my symptoms (not a cure though). I used to crash every afternoon was horrendous - felt sooo awful. The moment I went low carb the regular crashes stopped. My baseline stabilised as my blood sugars did. Though I still had low energy - i had much less malaise (and nothing is less energy than those crashes). Then February this year I managed to go keto. My energy improved a little, and my mental clarity and brain fog also improved (which at that point was at a level enough to scare me and to cause a doctor to suggest I had early onset dementia). Fat burning is amazing for my energy levels in that it keeps my baseline even steadier than before and no more ‘hangry’ episodes.

We have 2 metabolisms for a reason. We’ve evolved on both. During the summer and fall months, fruits growing on trees was an easy source of energy for us, and it was higher carb, less fat during these months. During fall and winter, when there was no fruit growing, we relied on eating animals, which is more fat and practically zero carbs. Both eating styles work well. Do them both.
Middle path is the best path. That's what I stick to. You shouldn't go from one extreme to another and I completely agree with you on that one.
Exactly. Problems arise when people eat high carb and high fat diets.

For the record, when keto dieters talk about low carbs, they're talking about low NET carbs, fiber carbs or "slow carbs" as you put them, are essential to the ketogenic diet. They are not counted towards your total carbohydrate count when determining your "low carb" status. So if to be in keto you needed under 30g net carbs, you could still eat 30g of fiber a day, and still have enough room to have another 29g of "fast carbs" and still be in ketosis, even though your "total carbs" are at 59g. Your net carbs are still only 29g.
Fiber is not essential.
You're just splitting hairs and making the good old low carb diet even more complicated and confusing.

Going carnivore tanked my glycogen stores. Yes, my triglycerides were 49, CAC was zero, but I wasn’t sleeping, was crabby all the time, and I actually gained 10 lbs. I’m trying to repair my thyroid, sleep and metabolism now by adding fruit and honey back in. It’s actually working. To each, their own!
@@blacksmithie It's weird. I've had it drilled into my head that carbs are bad, but I've got all the signs of a slow COMT gene, which would make a high protein diet about the worst thing I could do. I've added fruits, veggies and really high quality sourdough bread (no seed oils) back into my routine, and the dopamine spikes are going away. I didn't know that's what they were, but after a yummy plate of bacon and eggs? I would get super hyper and then tank. For a while, I thought it was blood sugar, but now I know it was dopamine and adrenaline. Crazy how genetics and epigenetics can play a role as well. :) I do miss bacon and eggs, though. Now I can do eggs on sourdough.
My mom ruined her thyroid by doing the Keto diet .. very dangerous stuff if not done correctly and monitored by a professional
Carnivore includes fat. More fat than you think and ate. A good starting ratio is 20% of your calories to be protein and 75%-80% fat derived. If your body doesn't need it it will pass through. This is the biggest mistake people make when attempting carnivore.
Protein is for repairing and building cells, fat is for energy. Eating carbs is providing a source of fat with an extra step between you and the fat your body wants. ( Carbs are packaged as lipids [fat] and stored or used and if your body wants glycogen (sugar) it can convert it from the fat)
It would still be carnivore and give the same results if you ate more fat but your filling that role with carbs.
This is an explanation of why carnivore didn't work as you expected not a demand on how anyone should eat.
@@btwbrand No, I met with Stephanie Person, and we talked about that and I upped my fat for a couple of months, thinking that was key. When I got my gene DNA test back, I realized that I can’t have mass quantities of protein or fat at one time. I’m a slow methylator, so I can’t take all that fat. Like I said, to each his own. I wasn’t demanding that anybody do the things that I do. I just found what worked for me.

People who get diabetes are not because they eat too much carbs or sugar, they just don´t have the ability to oxidize glucose efficiently, most probably because they have hypotyroidism and tyroid is responsible to use glucose and transform it to ATP, energy.
I eat lots of jam, honey, masa harina.
Even if I get around 3200 calories minimum, my belly fat only decreased because I don´t eat starches and starches are known to be highly insulogenic.
@@gabrielacsinte9849 what's your source for the cortisol claim, and the thyroid claim?
@@gabrielacsinte9849 Carbs do not equal energy. Carbs equal higher insulin. Higher insulin means your body is storing all that energy away as fat to use later. Many people don't seem to realize this but it's been shown through trials again and again, the carbs you are eating, are quickly transferred to fat stores because of insulin. Very little of it is actually used as energy. But do agree a little with what you said about insulin, some people can handle carbs better and it won't store as much, but 80% of America is insulin resistant, meaning for MOST people, carbs just become stored fat.
When I changed to a low carb diet and increased good fats intake, my need for insulin went to zero units. Can you explain that?
You're a type II diabetic with moderate to severe insulin resistance, but your pancreas is still making enough insulin for typical body processes. By switching to a low carb diet, your body doesn't need as much insulin, only enough to facilitate amino acid uptake (fatty acids don't require insulin to facilitate uptake) and a small amount for dietary sugars. Hence, your need for exogenous insulin (e.g. insulin shots) is reduced to zero.
@@svenmorgenstern9506 Thank you

Finallyyyy thankyuuu I was not convinced with the keto diet it ddnt work 4 me I'm trying 2 trqin and eat natural carbs seems its working
All I know is if I eat all low carb I feel like I'm starving. I must have my carbs! I just count my calories and eat what I want.

If you eat no carbs, you probably wont crave them. This is working for me at least.
If you eat enough proteins and healthy fats you wont crave carbs at all since they're satiating.. Carb cravings is due to the body's addiction to sugar
@@wallacesousuke1433 True!
sounds like sugar addiction, or you weren't eating enough fat so was eating a low calorie diet (which low carb and keto isn't)
I ate carbs and weighed over 300 lbs. And was diabetic, my thyroid was messed up. I had flakey scalp, major edema in my feet and lower legs.
I went keto low carb and all those symptions decreased.
Then I switch to carnivore, and reversed my diabeties, my thyroid panels returned to normal, and my edema is completely gone. I can see not only veins in my feet but my tendons.
I also lost 70 pounds in 3 months.
I do not need carbs.
And all my labs are normal now. Not better, normal.
My nuclear heart scans showed no blockages or other abnormalities or damage.
So somebody has some wires crossed somewhere.
Yes there is a difference between junk food carbs and healthy carbs. Healthy unprocessed carbs will cause weightloss. I know a few people losing weight with healthy carbs.
@@binathere2574just because you lose weight doesn’t mean your healthy, or protects you from diseases. You can do illegal drugs and lose weight since it can curb your appetite. Carbs aren’t essential meaning you don’t need it to survive at all.

Can you please list some essential carbs that we absolutely need to get from foods? Because I know about essential amino acids, essential fatty acids, ... but - nope - never heard about essential carbs.
All vegetables are essential carbs because that's where you get all your vitamins, minerals and healthy fats. What isn't essential is animal products.
@@cutabove9046 Huh? You do not understand difference what macros are and what micros?
Because there are none 😆
They might help before workouts, that's it.
@@cutabove9046 I don't eat vegetables. How come I'm still alive?
@@cutabove9046 vegetables have very little nutritional content. they also have fibre, antinutrients, toxic metals, and pesticides. you can get nutrients in a much more bioavailable form from fruits and animal foods. fruits and animal foods are less toxic, less fibrous, and have more nutrients that are easy to absorb. no vegetable can match up to an avocado. no vegetable can match up to beef liver, or fish.
compare beef liver to vegetables. look at the massive difference in bioavailable vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and amino acids. its ridiculous that some seriously think that vegetables are nutritious and are essential. indeed, replacing processed carbs with vegetables can be a good idea, but still, vegetables are NOT essential for human life. you can live just fine without them.

@@binathere2574 after 3 years of keto and intermittent fasting, I’m implementing complex carbs. I messed up my hormones and lowered my metabolism. So totally agree with you!
What kind of macro ratio should we be aiming for?
My weight loss surgeon did her residency at the Cleveland Clinic and puts us all on a low carb diet. I guess this doesn't actually apply to those of us with diabesity.
I watched the video to the end and still cant see how "carbohydrates are the single most important thing you can eat for health and weight loss"
@Paul In Kyushu not in the least.
@Paul In Kyushu meat, seafood and high fat plant food have a much more complete nutritional profile than many veggies. Many vegans are suffering serious adverse health affects from years of being on a vegan diet. I am a former vegan myself.
@Paul In Kyushu yes, I was miserable and hungry all the time too. High fat plant foods like avocado, coconut, nuts, seeds, olives, cacao.
@Paul In Kyushu sure thing! Best of luck to you in your quest for health. New research is flipping what we were taught completely upside down!
@BroChopin Fat has far more nutrition, depending on the source. Most vitamins that are necessary to the human body are fat soluble vitamins, which means they need fat to be properly metabolized.
It depends on your body you have to experiment with food lifestyles to get the one that works for you if your tryna lose weight restrict your calories
👏👏👏 Exactly
I hate when people act like you have to follow what they do just because it worked for them, everyone is different.
Calorie restriction is not the best way to lose weight and be healthy at the same time. I'm so tired of hearing "restrict calories" "calories in, calories out". Scientifically, it all comes down to hormonal response, not on calories. And because the word "calorie" is so annoying and overused I'm gonna say energy used. The reason so many people (including our ancestors) thrive on low carb or no carb diets or woe is because of the hormonal responses our bodies have when adapted to those ways of eating. We might be carnivore or omnivore, idk. But we are definitely obligate carnivores. Either way, calories don't matter, but the way you use your energy does. Even so, some carnivores don't use much energy and are still thriving. Plants=survive Meat=thrive. And like you said, not everything works for everyone so don't tell people to restrict calories just because it worked for you. You kind of hypocrited yourself into that one
So what are the good carbs an fruit u mentioned?
I was struggling with weight, tried everything then I started intermittent fasting with Keto, within less than a year.. I went from 240 pounds to 180 pounds.. My waist shrank from 38 inches to 30 inches.. It cost me a fortune in new clothes.. Felt great.. Now I'm back on carbs.. Feeling crap and weight creeping back up..
Not all fruits and veggies are low glycemic. Not only that, but people need to focus a bit more on the insulinogenic index (which foods cause more insulin to be released) as well.😉
Fully agree..
Low carb weirdos can’t tell you to eat insulinogenic animal products if they were honest could they? the glycemic index straw man is all they have.
Three pieces of fruit will raise a diabetic's blood sugar sky high. Here's an example: ruclips.net/video/iGogtod-Bm0/видео.html
Fiber doesn't help much to lower blood sugar, either. Look at the other videos in the same channel to see. Then, test it yourself if you are diabetic. Sugar does kill, and sugar from fruit kills, too.
Kelly Miller that is the kicker, but I’m still not sure that means that the ideal diet for overweight insulin resistant people is to eat a lot of eg potato’s/sweet potatoes.
@@kellymoderator5253
What are you talking about? Look up the insulin index, carbs have the highest insulin score. Even whole plant foods and fruits are more insulinogenic than any animal products.
The healthiest diet I've ever been on was carnivore. The change was dramatic. My health improved in all aspects and my blood work all improved significantly. Tons of people with long-term chronic illnesses report a complete reversal. People have eaten nothing but ribeyes and drank water for years and are in exceptional health.
A lot of the benefits you're seeing are most likely coming from the things you're NOT eating, especially if you're coming from a diet full of processed foods. I'm sure you'd feel great and be healthier if you included some (low carb) veggies in your diet. If you insist on doing a carnivore diet you should make sure to include some organ meats. Otherwise you'll be nutrient deficient long term.
@@august4633 i coudnt agree more.
the healthiest diet you could ever be on is a well balanced one. people who only eat red meat every day for many years are already dead

I started using HyperKeto a few months ago and it's made keto easy, sustainable, & even enjoyable! The food is high quality and there are no restrictions on what you
I have been using HyperKeto for around 4 months now. I'm happy with the product, but I'm not sure if it's for me. For one, I don't know how much of a difference this is making in my weight loss and I am still struggling with my diet, so it might just be a waste of money.
I’ve been eating healthy since early 2020 and have had great results in every way.
My view is to eat a controlled healthy diet on most days, but allow some of the feel good food a few times a week. I just look for the best organic non gmo version of that feel good food.
I also load up on fruits and have no problem with that. No problems with Insulin. I think the experts over exaggerate the harms in some of these foods. You don’t have to limit it to just berries. Grapes, apples, bananas, blueberries, oranges, I eat all the time without hesitation. All bloodwork comes back perfect and I’m off all medications.
Good to hear. I think keto is more for those with insulin resistance and people who dint have it probably can eat more whole food type carbs as you said. I think that's closer to a paleo diet, I could be wrong because I dont really follow that too much.
How do you feel about cheat meals? Like once a week usually on Sunday I would prefer to have a couple bowls of pasta. Is that going to throw off everything I did the whole week
@@petersmithyy4556 one meal shouldn’t matter that much. You can always hold off after you have that meal, then continue cutting.

I’ve trying to loose weight and build muscle, so I started eating a lot of protein, non-fat yogurt, chicken breast, fish, eggs, and lots of veggies, broccoli, lettuce or spinach salad, and only drink water, then I heard lots of protein can cause cancer, then I was planning moving to keto, just eating veggies, cut the carbs from meat, and eat only plant based protein, then I watch this and other video, and they say carbs are completely necessary. I’m done with this shit, I’m gonna order an extra large pizza with 10 toppings, one extra large root beer, and 4 double double burgers from In N Out. I’m done. We’re all gonna die one day anyway
Don't give up! Based on my research, I think that, if you can manage it, a mainly plant (and fish perhaps) based, low carb diet would probably be one of the most healthy diets possible! You can eat a high amount of veggies without really adding that many calories from carbs to your diet. Also, it doesn't hurt to just take a multivitamin in the mornings just to be safe. Good luck!
Rofl! I needed a good laugh 🤣.
Blame the keto people they're the ones who came out demonizing all carbs some carbs are bad like the ones mentioned in this video by the doctor but they came out demonizing fruits, greens certain ones certain vegetables all because they don't want to give up meat,
cheese, eggs so they have to create a bad guy to make their things seem healthy same way to carnivore Community demonizes all vegetables claiming their poison they need a bad guy to make their insane diet look sane
😅😅 yeah man, it is crazy...and everyone tells us...it is science..f**CK science as well..
Btw...building muscle and Lise weight is practically impossible, maybe in the beginning if you have 30 pounds to lose..but afterwards, to get lean and build muscle is impossible, at least to my knowledge and without roids of course
Problem is I can't control my carbs, i ALWAYS overeat and affects my blood sugar so much. Low carb diet works for me

There is a famous fitness guru in my country who is an absolute fanatic when it comes to keto diet. He also claimed that people whose diet consist of 45% or more carbs are in a constant state of Diabetes.

He's correct although humans cannot process fiber at all. It can and does ferment in the gut and colon and that causes gas and even mold. Vegans get a lot of gas especially raw vegans.

Sure. Oatmeal itself is carbs though. As is basmati rice. Zero sugar just means they didn’t add extra sugar. The rice has more carbs though, so you’d be able to eat more oatmeal.
