It's a very catchy line.
That was the line in the trailer that really got me.
The commodore isn't stressed because he's a military man. He's not "not doing anything." He's strategizing, prepping his ships and knowing what to do when facing pirates.
Will turner is a blacksmith who wants to run head first into danger and will probably get a cannonball to the chest before getting close to Elizabeth.

The father and officers did care about Elizabeth being taken, they just didn't know how to go after her because no one knew where the Black Pearl had gone. That's one part that I loved about this movie, that even the antagonist officer clearly cared about Elizabeth above all else.
One of Disney’s best films. Just pure fun. It was based off the theme park ride and people thought it would totally bomb because of that.
Let’s also not forget what Johnny Depp did with the character of Jack sparrow Johnny Depp, being cast as Jack sparrow is arguably the best casting of all time. If I’m not mistaken, he also had a lot of freedom when it comes to the character itself at least in the first three movies he did
Now Jack and other characters from the movie are in the ride. That ride was always my favorite as a kid.
@@MrCmad1104 yeah I’ve never been there. I live in Canada so that’s always been an expensive trip to make but I heard they had to redo the ride because the movie was so popular
The movie was named after the theme park ride, but everything in the movie is based off of actual history, books, and folklore as inspiration. For example, the theme park ride is literally based off of the book Treasure Island, and Captain Barbossa is based off of Hayreddin Barbarossa, an Ottoman navy admiral.
Norrington and Mr. Swan weren't "doing nothing" when Will approached them. They were studying the map to figure out the most likely course the Black Pearl had taken and which course the Royal Fleet would take.
"Why doesn't she like will" she didn't say "That was too bold" because she doesn't like Will. It's because it's not proper for her maid to suggest such a thing. She is aristocracy will is not a proper fit according to society. I think you are really misunderstanding her actual feelings for will from the start 😮

4:02 Keira Knightly díd play in 'star wars I - the phantom menace' but she didn't play Padmé Amidala, she played Sabé, a handmaiden/body double... So that picture there isn't correct.. That's Natalie Portman. But the confusion is normal since that's the whole point of a body double haha

Before Disney became woke. Since Disney has gone woke they have struggled to make women characters with the right mix of vulnerability that need help from the male characters but also the ability to be a formidable presence without being over powered. Elizabeth Swan is an amazing character - female, smart, sexy, brave and cunning. Swan hits the balance perfectly.
I've seen these movies so many times. It's hard to believe there are still people who haven't seen them. Strap yourself in, you're in for a wild ride. 😁

“You know nothing of hell.” That line is so well delivered.
Almost every gesture, every action, almost everything is underpinned by great humor in this sensational pirate adventure.
Johnny Depp as a devious drunkard is half the battle, but nothing else is left out that belongs to a proper pirate adventure.
There are fights and boardings that shake the shrouds, as well as poking fun at and satirizing everything the genre has to offer.

The pirates think that Elizabeth is the person they need because she said her name was Turner. I think she gave that name because she didn't want the pirates to know she was the Govenor's daughter.
Yes really dark for Disney, was wondering how they would relate it to the ride at the park. Elisabeth is the Governor's daughter and Will is "just" a blacksmith, so they are socially on opposite sides. Her father would instill the she is above his station/he is to low for her. (They both know this is just how things are). Your accents are always so great! Can't wait for the rest of the movies!
It's really more "inspired by" the ride than anything else. The ride didn't have a cohesive story of its own, so they used its various vignettes like a mood board and then incorporated the most iconic ones as moments of the film itself.
12:17 It's not that she doesn't like Will, it's that she's a noble lady born with a high class name and Will is a commoner. Her handmaid is ''out of place'' for giving such high suitor praise to a low commoner man.

The only thing Captain Babossa knows about Bootstrap Bill is that he sent a medallion back to his child. Babossa, nor the crew, new the gender of the child.
12:17 She likes Will, it's just a status thing. Elizabeth's father is a governor, she is of high social standing. Will is a blacksmith, a much lower social standing. In the time period this is set, such a pairing would be considered a bit scandalous.
At this point in the movie she's likely denying her feelings for Will due to the societal pressure of marrying a man of equal or higher standing than her, like Norrington.

What the more recent PotC movies failed to remember is that captain Jack is a misunderstood genius (not an idiot)❤
Exactly. He was always eccentric, but never crazy; unorthodox, but never stupid. This version of Jack is the best version. He goes increasingly off the rails with each successive film. Even just from 1 to 2 you can see a stark contrast in his personality and while it's not insufferable, it is markedly different and not the same character from the first film. 1 is a masterpiece, 2 and 3 are fun, but not on the same level, 4 is just ok, and 5 is complete and total garbage.
Keira knightly is pretty good looking but you’re right up there with her. Some aspects being better. Don’t be too envious.

Geoffrey Rush is my favorite part about these movies since my first rewatch . Of course as a kid i loved Jack but as i got older Barbossa became my favorite character. He has literally the most character development out of all of them

Will is a low-born blacksmith. Ms. Swann is the Governor's daughter. It wouldn't be fitting for her to marry below her station
Norrington & The Father were worried & making actual plans & thinking to utilize their troops & ships with proper strategy while Will was being impulsive. Remember Will just woke up & while Norrington & The Father had whole night to process what happened & also had the whole city to look after.
Just think that you can’t just send teams to search for Elizabeth in random directions & location because she can be anywhere in 7 Seas & any islands etc etc.
So as the Officer in charge Norrington was being calm & responsible…

I take it you haven't had the pleasure of wearing a corset. That is what her father gave her that made her not be able to breathe good and the reason she passed out and fell in the water! My father gave me my first corset for my 15th birthday because I asked him for one! That was 14 years ago and I still wear a corset most of every day. It helps with posture and staying fit and slim. It just takes getting used to breathing at first and each time it is laced tighter. 👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠❤❤

After the attack on Port Royal, the commodore does everything but "not do anything". It is made quite clear with his reasoning for not interrogating Jack, his speech to Will and the map laid out in front of him that he is strategizing. Likely trying to figure out the most likely route to charter his ships in order to find and retrieve Elizabeth. Seems a lot smarter to narrow down a likely heading, than searching the entire Caribbean one island at a time. Before anybody asks, then no, you cannot just set after them immediately as they leave, circumventing the whole 'try to find them' thing, as they would have needed to assess the damage caused by the pirates throughout the port before they would be able to set sail.

When you mention about 'lines being predictable', Unless it's incredibly cliché I find it a part of good script writing. How many times have you or seen others say a line before it's spoken? It's satisfying and a good way to engage the viewer. BTW - this should be a classic as time goes on. A solid stand alone movie that needed no - but got - decent sequels.

They are all great! It's my favourite movie ever. The most similiar movie is "The mummy" and "The mummy returns". Great and funny movie too, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz...

He's so underrated as an actor, so many people don't recognize his name 😢
@@elizabethstrong6057its insane he's literally amazing in all his roles. Him as the Marquis De Sade in Quills is such an amazing acting performance also him as Steven Price in the House on haunted hill remake is so funny. Barbossa is definitely his most famous role and his best in my opinion.

That was a problem with corsets back then, fanting was common 'cause the poor chicks could barely breath, but gave that nice thin waistline...... there were many medical issues around the usage of those items.
This might be a bit late but @ 4:02 you showed 2 pictures from other movies you thought Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom played in. The one on the right is Orlando, the one on the left is not Keira but Natalie Portman in the star wars movie "The Phantom Menace".

You're quite wrong. Elizabeth more than likes Will, but given the times (1700's) and their respective stations in life, such a match would have been frowned upon by polite society.
Not sure if anyone else noted this, but a bunch of the scenes from the attack on the port were based off the "scenes" in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Walt Disney World in FL (not sure if CA Disneyland has the ride as well). I think they've updated the ride since, but when I was a kid there in the 80s and also teen in the 90s, way before the movie came out, there were the animatronic scenes that depicted the attack and looting and chasing the maidens. Even the dog scene in the movie existed in the ride with the dog sitting there holding the keys with the prisoners in the jail cell. So there was a lot of representation of the ride at the theme park in the movie.
The 'Land and 'World rides are nearly identical, and have been updated. (The pirates now chase barmaids carrying plates of food, implying that they're after the _food,_ not the women themselves... among other "sensitivity" changes.)
They were also updated again to incorporate the movie characters, including Jack and Davy Jones. Jack appears in multiple locations throughout the ride, now.

These are really fun movies and I'm excited to see you watch them. And if you didn't know this is based off of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disneyland! A lot of rides at Disney are based off of DIsney movies, like the Peter Pan ride or the Winnie the Pooh ride, but in this case the ride actually came long before the movie!
