- Starbucks on Tuesday reported weaker-than-expected quarterly earnings and revenue, fueled by a surprise decline in same-store sales. The coffee chain also slashed its forecast for its fiscal 2024 earnings and revenue, predicting that its cafes would keep underperforming for several quarters. This comes almost a month after it decided to shut down it's NFT loyalty program "Starbucks Odyssey".

If you brew at home, maybe it'll cost you 20 cents but you're not factoring in labor costs and for minimum wage laws.
I stopped going to Starbucks a long time ago. I only buy their beans at grocery stores for $7.99 for a 12 ounce bag, which is fairly reasonable.

I have never been a fan of expensive coffee. Starbucks is a scam. I don't understand how people are willing to pay $7 or $8 for a cup of coffee. Everyone knows that the main ingredient costs 45 cents, and Starbucks adds about $2 worth of other ingredients. That's a 300% markup!
Starbucks basically tried to turn their stores into discotheques. It became impossible to go in there with my laptop and do any work. They had to have their music blasting. Resentment for having to go through that makes people not want to go to their stores at all. It's basically insulting the dignity of their customers. Musical tastes is an intensely personal matter. They don't need to have music on at all. If someone can't work without some kind of music blasting then they shouldn't need to have that job.
Starbucks prices are way way way too high. Their rewards have been reduced tremendously. I’m huge into NFTs and they didn’t let me in. Huge mistake, they didn’t know who to market to.

Hey. Fascinating segment. I'm a regular viewer of the show. Because I was a long-standing Starbucks Gold Card holder, I was invited to be in the first Odyssey group. I thoroughly enjoyed the program, and the discord was always busy and vibrant. Many of the challenges were well-designed, so I felt that Odyssey would continue to grow and be successful. They absolutely misled the participants. Although some NFTs were free for participating, others cost $100s to mint or purchase on secondary. Thankfully I sold mine for nice gains before they rug-pulled. I'll never understand why they did such a negative thing to their MOST loyal customers. Even for a crypto and NFT native such as myself, their shift was shocking and abrupt.
Paul, Raposa is not a coffee company getting into Web3. They are Solana OGs that got into coffee. You should get SOK on your show. Amazing story! The community is great, but the coffee is truly top notch!

I was in the Odyssey beta for two years, I liked it. I don't know if sunsetting the beta means they are throwing it out. It was not a public rollout, I know several people who tried to get in but could not. It was a private beta and we gave lots of feedback in the discord.
I hope they will be using some of the things from it. I still have all my NFTs and the two physical items I earned.

$7.26 for a triple tall (12 OZ.) vanilla latte. I didn't care about knowing about their history and trying new product flavors. Sooo they needed to find better engagement ideas...and video was right none of the barista's where I live knew what Odessey was and I didn't see any posters on wall or ads in store.
