I just realized that Hawkeye not actually seeing his family disintegrate makes this scene so much better: 1) We got to see in Infinity War the grief of watching people you love fade into ashes. But what we see here is the reactions from people who have no idea what's going on: the confusion, the panic, and the shock. 2) It's what's left unsaid and unseen in this scene. You can decide for yourself how to fill in the gaps, how the loss and sheer horror of it all will come crashing down on him. Of course, we find out the path that grief led him down, but we don't need to be told the steps in between.
Fun Fact: The thunder you can hear in the background isn’t actually thunder, there’s no lightning. These sounds are caused by things like planes falling because they lost their pilots, or cars crashing because they lost their drivers.
A plane wouldn't instantly fall out of the sky if it lost it's pilot. There have been cases of complete decompression, the pilots lose consciousness, die from hypoxia and the plane continues flying itself for hours until it runs out of fuel.

This scene is just the perfect way to open the film. Also her bow that she fired, was still on the target. If Hawkeye didn't turn his head he would of saw his daughter get dusted. She didn't get a chance to get her bow off the target.
This is by far, for me, the best scene in all of the MCU. Unlike other scenes depicting this moment, where you see the heroes vanishing, here they establish how the everyday person experienced this event. You turn around and ..puff... people you knew all your life simply vanished without any explanation. Perfectly filmed and colored. It's such a great scene.
I was in the movie premiere and this scene was so scary, everyone was just like: "oooh shit". And you can feel the silence, the loneliness. Oh crap this scene is reeeally goood
Honestly, this scene right here is why Endgame is my favorite movie. It captures human nature PERFECTLY in its writing. Jeremy Renner portrayed the emotions so perfectly that even I, a pretty emotionally stable person, *feel* something just from his performance. At one moment, he's having a nice day with his wife and children. In the next moment, everything he loved was taken away from him while his attention was diverted, and you can FEEL the panic and confused sorrow rising within Hawkeye as he discovers he's all alone. This is the most brilliant piece of movie making I can even fathom. It will forever be my favorite moment in any movie. Period.
I'm not sure about that. While you have a point, just think about how frantic he would be. He has no clue that his family literally disintegrated. No, they were just *gone*. He looks away for one moment, then suddenly theres no one, no where. Who knows when he would think to check the news? (if any broadcast was still operational afterward) The man probably thought he was going insane -- that or that they were kidnapped so efficiently that he couldn't detect them, and couldn't even start to figure out how to get them back... which would be a bit worse, because any remaining hope of seeing them again would be ripped away from him.
@@scarlettkara2762 If the post credit scene from AMATW is any indication, broadcasts probably would have been off the air. After Pepper would have told him to stay put for a bit because of all the traffic accidents and general chaos (looting, public suicides etc)
I feel like no one appreciates how hard an intro like this is to write. The writer probably definitely thought to himself "This doesn't make any sense, they definitely would've screamed or yelled before they disappeared" Sometimes, you just got to go with it.

Hawkeye had prepared himself that he might be taken from his family. He took every step he could to ensure they were never part of his world as Hawkeye. But he was never prepared that his family might be taken from him, instead. This scene is absolutely vicious in its simplicity: the man who always believed his number would be up as the first to die ends up being the last alive and losing everything.
This is the most devastating scene in the entire movie. The instant 180 from happiness and contentment to confusion, panic, and terror just hits you in the face. And this was just the opening.
I love the sounds...birds, traffic noise and planes in the beginning...the birds slowly goes away as the dusting starts....to nearly nothing and the you can hear muffled explosions in the distance, presumably planes and cars crashing as their drivers are dusted.
What makes this scene even worse is when you realize that Hawkeye probably spent days trying to find out what the hell happened to his family. I can't imagine the Avengers got the information out immediately after the Snap since they had to recover, so Clint spent an ungodly amount of time worried and terrified out of his mind that his family disappeared without so much as a word.
I love how he goes from mild confusion to instant realization that something’s seriously wrong and his expression is one of having his guard up, expecting enemies are about to attack him.

This is so scary. Losing whole family in an instant
Damn that ketchup kid has the worst luck. He also dies very early in A Quiet Place.
This is like the Rapture but its only scary when you're not expecting it
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition again; and Nobody even wants to know CHRIST Jesus WILL take His own in similar fashion.
Aight but does he say “I want ketchup” or “how ‘bout ketchup”?
"How 'bout ketchup?"
Can’t believe he wasn’t even born in avengers age of ultron
@@groot2322 he was born at the end
I remember everyone murmuring and gasping at this scene in theaters
This scene of endgame haunts me to this very day. A happy family turned into dust right in front of Hawkeye in an instant.
I love the fact that you can still see her ashes dissipating
