it is just soooo easy to get a little solder in the wrong spot or have something that touches when you least expect it. For sure sometimes it is also manufacturing or parts quality, but I would say a lot more die from something about how they were put in than more natural causes.
If you want to stick to near the same price point, you might check out Diatone's Mamba lineup! They would be my next bet on a more budget oriented name brand stack :)
I had a bad f405 30x30 fc also But if you have the extra money i really love the t-motor stuff seems they put a really good product out. i have a few stacks and motors from them. One of my best quad is done in t-motor esc and fc with iflight xing motors f7 processor.
For funsies, I just installed this very stack in an ancient Reptile 500, old MultiStar 2212's, 10" props, a tinywhoop cam/vtx combo all on iNav. It's stupid and comical, but it works. It's gotta be the lightest Reptile ever!

i believe im the only person to use the speedybee f4 50a v3 esc with kiss ultra, and i frikkin love it. When i flew betaflight, the f7 speedy bee wasnt bad either. Bonus, says no telemetry but esc Rpm works! for the price they are great. ive been using the same esc on multiple quads for a while now.
@@BaconNinjaFPV they sell em at pyro drone. You will either really really love it, or will think its not different enough to change from betaflight. I am actually moving soon and will have a place of my own where I can just walk out and fly any time :) It will help me get back to that sbang'n!! I will also be muuuuch closer to more abandoned sites where I can go try some new and interesting things.
Good results! I already have a 20x20 stack for my 2Fiddy build, but this sounds about perfect for a Grinderino! I guess now I might as well build one of those little tanks. 😂
@@BaconNinjaFPV I put a mini 40A jhemcu esc on my 5" 6S racer. It flew amazing. Only once I got stuck in a tree and wanted to turtle mode it down, did one if the ESC'S die. Okay it's a mini 5 gram esc running a 2207.5 motor on 6S that killed it when being blocked spinning up.
I saw Speedybee website had F405 V3 on sale for USD60 in July until the end of July. Now in August they say it's on sale for USD60 until the end of August. Could it be they are just doing this to try get people impulse purchase their stuff?
I think it is for sure, at least partly, a marketing tactic to get the lower cost out there. It is one of those things where if it is always on sale, then is it really on sale? lol. Still though, a decent price for a budget stack!
After seeing that test, I think this is going to be the stack I use in my first sub 250 build 👀. I want to do some 3D, so I'll need an esc that can handle the added abuse 😅
I just bought this thing. Very great value, assuming prices don't jack up. I'm excited to be able to replace part of the stack if I blow something. Are the Emax RS 1408 2300kv motors too much for this thing on 6s? I'll be using it on a siren F3 split frame, probably sub 250. Thoughts anyone?
Those motors should be juuuust fine with that stack. In this test I was using 1404, so quite a bit less stator than a 1408, but they were at 3800kv so quite a bit more RPM than what you have there. It should do a great job and should fit pretty well in the F3 :)
@@wizardfpv7856 wow okay great to know! That gives me some confidence I could probably try flying 3d mode with this 3” build…just wish I knew what props to use for 3” 3d flying
@@BaconNinjaFPV Only thing I wouldn’t put it on, is a racing or freestyle build that gets properly pushed. In that application this ESCs will last for 10 days or less. It MIGHT not die completely in this time, but you will 100% feel an imbalance in the air. 100%!!! On, at least, one phase of one channel. FETs will start to wear unevenly, and a significant measurable difference in resistance will start to develop between the 3 phases of at least one of the channels… You will get= roughness, crappy response, and shit flight feel (caused by the uneven loading of the 3 motor coils). When you really start to push builds, shit gets real, pretty fast 😜 but most average cruisers will be fine with anything. They will NEVER wear out an ESC. I have to keep changing MOSFETs like a chump 😜 but I’m smart now and I measure my ESCs when new and when I feel an issue, because I’m NOT the best pilot and I have a hard time differentiating between an ESC phase imbalance or a motor bearing going bad. It just sounds/feels like uneven motor to me! Self degrading story time: I literally changed the bearings on one motor 3 times (3!!!) thinking that I kept getting bad bearings (even though they were from my friends at NSK Japan), or that I wasn’t installing them right somehow, or that the motor bell or base was messed up somehow (even though they were perfect)…. I honestly started to think there was something wrong with me (real downward spiral energy) 😜… It was soon after I started FPV, and I was a little scattered and overwhelmed. I didn’t have my troubleshooting system down to a science yet. Turned out it was the ESC, I changed the FETs on that channel and all was well 🤦♂️ BTW I ended up putting the original bearings back on that motor, so I changed bearings 4 times during this one troubleshooting session 😜
higher voltage == lower amps for the same power (or rpm). Also shattering the prop isnt the worst that can happen to an esc. It will draw more amps for longer if you crash the quad in to grass or dirt, and it tries to maintain its set rpm. To simulate this in a bench test, I would try making the prop catch a towel or something. That would stress the ESC.
absolutely true!! For this test since I was using the same KV on 4S and 6S with no motor output limit between the two, I was pulling quite a bit more amperage for the higher RPM on 6S. I was really hoping to also exacerbate the voltage spikes down in the low RPM range when the prop started backup with the higher voltage of 6S. I thought maaaaaybe we would lose some functionality or a BEC on the FC as well, but it took it as best it could. A towel caught up in would have for sure baked it thought! lol
i cringed lol looks awesome ad for most very affordable sadly id still have to save a few months so hopefully there ok id love to get my 3 inch going again some day even if just to fly los i love that quad thanks for sharing
Maybe some day we will see the prices come down even further!! It is crazy to think that 3 years ago this stuff was literally half the cost that it is now.
Seems like a reasonable test to me. I've smoked motors while 🐢ing. Great price. Small esc. 👍 I have higher rated 20x20 esc boards. But they're bigger. Hard to fit in smaller frames along with a digital vtx. This could help with that. 😎
Yeah my higher rated (45-55A) 20x20 boards have the right mounting holes, but they are so much bigger than this little thing. Kind of nice on the one side, but I always wonder if they are gonna pop the smoke at some point, lol. Looks like at least the one I got for this test could take it!
i have no idea how but ive put mine in an 3.5 race frame with the right motors and kv but after 2 days after purchase and 3 sessions it fried luckily only the esc was fried
the real winner here are the avans lol, the 3.5inch avans are so tough, never had one expode or lose a blade and they only really bend upwards or if they do bend down its only the tip and it dont reach the motor wires, where my gemfans previourly suffered all the above lol. also love my mamba f405 mk4 mini 30a stack
oh man, those avian props are real troopers! I always pick them when I can. They tend to be a tad heavier, but I have never quite had props hold up as well as they do in the sizes they come in.
More voltage on 6S draws less amps, not more. And TVS diodes don’t work because crashes that make the motors stop cause a higher amp draw, which causes a voltage dip, and TVS diodes cut voltage spikes. I think there’s a Bardwell or KababFPV video about this
My V3 esc popped a FET after a plugged in a lipo after checking the quad after a crash. o well... Foxeer Reaper F4 128K 65A and KISS ULTRA V2 goin in. In hindsight... should have ordered the PDB and 4 Kiss ESC's instead lol.... gonna kill the walksnail vtx next probably.
@@BaconNinjaFPV yeah I have 2 on the bench that seems to have died. One after a crash, one just randomly stopped working. Weird, because my 1s nano v1 WS vtx just keeps going while that 4" gets the most abuse.
I bought two of the 30x30 stacks. What a mistake. They have a major design flaw and it’s having a lot of issues with betaflight 4.4 firmware. Wouldn’t be surprised if this small board has some of those issues as well.
@@flat-earther the osd and black box run on the same spi so black box logging will either have a fatal sd card error or it will have broken logs or the osd will be stuck in the logo screen or a combination of the two.. that’s with betaflight 4.4 releases.
yeah that particular shared SPI design isn't too uncommon either among lots of different boards. I really think it gets this one in particular since it uses an SD slot rather than a flash chip so the addressing is a bit different. I really hope 4.5, which seems to be coming soon, helps to address that!
@@BaconNinjaFPV after long talks with the devs I highly doubt that will be the case unfortunately. The response I got from the devs was to either get another board or run a HD system. They essentially said there’s nothing much they can do to resolve the issue due to a “design flaw”. The issue has been closed on GitHub unfortunately.
Pricing is great, unfortunately I’m having durability issues with the 30x30. Just broke my second FC on my bacon budget bird. 1st break was 1st crash, 1st pack, usb port fell off. Now on the new one the 5v and 9v pads are dead. 2 FCs in less than 2 months.
hmmmm, it sounds like there may be some other things going on with it that could be contributing to that! Yes i did find that the diagrams of the wiring was absolutely awesome, great layout for a beginner fpv pilot and very direct, no confusing abbreviations and such... an awesome experience just building and i enjoyed it so much 👍 one thing i did learn after plugging a battery in (with zero smoke) is that i was suppose to have a fused device to connect between the battery and the quad on the first plugin, to prevent or to tell you there was a short... low and behold everything was fine 👌 but at the bargain price of £60 from unmanned tech fell straight in to my budget for my first build. Me and a good mate of mine both went at it, so we bounced off each other while building them, as our knowledge was minimal... but after a while doing research we got there.
I went with the fpv racer next5 frame, obviously the speedybee f405 v3 stack.. a speedybee tx800 vtx, rumcam phoenix 2, Rpm rc 2207 1950kv motors and ethix candy cane p4 props with rush antennas and I bought a second hand pair of eachine ev800 goggles which I found for £30 in the first city over from the small town we live in.. I came in at £218 in the air. Oh i Also used my gopro hero 3 😁 like I say, on a budget.
I already had a futaba t8j from flying a small amount of fixed wing but flights was very few and far between, so I used that with an sbus reciver, just to get me by till i could afford the transition to Elrs.. i've just bought the radiomaster boxer which is absolutely amazing, great peice of kit 👍 I'm going to be building another very soon and already cannot wait 😀
@@pingofthething5446 Holy Bargain Batman! That's gotta be the best entry price I've ever seen to get into a 5", nicely done!
You mentioned the SmokeStopper - it's been a boon in past builds, most recently helping me diagnose a pair of swapped wires feeing the GPS in a VTOL Ranger build - why would there be two black wires in the harness, come on! lol
That's a mean build you have there, I hope the one you're planning is equally successful! You mentioned fixed wings - my current obsession - at some point I got hooked on iNav, and have a small squadron of FPV planes, at first using old quad FC's, but now purpose built. Mixing the two disciplines with infrastructure, hardware, and software is pretty cool and definitely budget friendly!
That's a great experience to see cause when your stuck in a tree and your trying to turtle mode out of the tree like my NBD INFINITY AIO that got stuck on a branch and smoked the whole AIO so no more $150 AIO for me I'm going for this more often. Thank you greasy Ninja
oh man, the NBD Inifinity...dont get me started, lol. sooooooo many of those have burned up and they were super expensive too!!
This warms me cockles since I recently ordered the F4 mini stack just based on price and features. I’m pairing it up with a 147mm Assassin 3 inch frame, speedybee TX800 vtx & Geprc 1507 3200kv motors. Should be interesting. Thanks for the grease!
Deff feel like a lot of blown FC/ESCs are from the builder most of the time. Probably 90%
In hindsight, I’m pretty sure mine was.
it is just soooo easy to get a little solder in the wrong spot or have something that touches when you least expect it. For sure sometimes it is also manufacturing or parts quality, but I would say a lot more die from something about how they were put in than more natural causes.
@@BaconNinjaFPV I think it was a cold solder joint on the cap that shorted mine out after a crash. That won’t happen again.
Ive always likes speedy bee products. .good vid ..
awesome thanks. gonna buy one and test it
Awesome test! Convinced me to try it out on a race frame!👍🏽🤙🏽
Hmmm something for the Grinderino... puuurrrfect
It is one of the options I am looking at for it, that is for sure! Have a few more to test before we totally get there though.
I’ve had 1 good f405 an 2 bad ones. First was a bad fc an one a esc now I’m at totally lost for what brand I should try next.
It's gotta be the lightest Reptile ever!
daaaaaaaaang slinging 10" props with this thing!!! Must be a suuuuuper light big boi!
Is this a good option on a five33 switchback 5" frame? Got one lying around that im gonna build a freestyler out of.
Wow! Fantastic testing, dude!!! 😂
Pretty impressive stack indeed!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
As long as I don't do this test again, I think we will be safe. lol
Bacon, what the hell are you doin'? !! lmfao
Pffft, you psycho!!
(one minute into the video)
Yes, SpeedyBee is terrific!
I'm using 65A ESCs, HolyBro.

Uh oh, Screwdriver? 😲
That 1st prop F'n shattered!
🔥FIRE🔥 SpeedyBee F405!
Thanks Bacon!

✌
lolol, im just out here doing stupid things so others don't have to!! Story of my life!
i believe im the only person to use the speedybee f4 50a v3 esc with kiss ultra, and i frikkin love it. When i flew betaflight, the f7 speedy bee wasnt bad either. Bonus, says no telemetry but esc Rpm works! for the price they are great. ive been using the same esc on multiple quads for a while now.
I still have to try Kiss ultra sometime! So far I have never gotten the chance to do it, but some day I will get the opportunity and make it happen.
@@BaconNinjaFPV they sell em at pyro drone. You will either really really love it, or will think its not different enough to change from betaflight. Thats usually the two scenarios with kiss ive experienced. with the occasional person has no idea what they are doing and gives up before giving it a chance. lol
Oooh my, I wonder what my speedybee f4 50A can do🥶
I have some in a box....wanna find out??? lol
Great video.. Speedy Bee has strong electronics.. btw Bacon could you please make more flight videos soon.. I miss your Sbang videos 🙌🏼
I am actually moving soon and will have a place of my own where I can just walk out and fly any time :) It will help me get back to that sbang'n!! I will also be muuuuch closer to more abandoned sites where I can go try some new and interesting things.
@@BaconNinjaFPVYess!! 🙌🏼
Good results! I already have a 20x20 stack for my 2Fiddy build, but this sounds about perfect for a Grinderino! I guess now I might as well build one of those little tanks. 😂
ya i have the stack in 5in source one frame but its not going to stay in that build going to get the grinderino built up and put the stack in it.
Can it hold 6s 160c at full trottle..?
What motor was that? 1404?
yes, that was a 1404. I figured I was either going to burn up a motor or burn up the ESC, so I didn't want to throw anything too nice on there, lol.
I want to do some 3D, so I'll need an esc that can handle the added abuse 😅
oooooooo, 3D! If you wind up building it with this, lemme know what you think of it for that use case.
Thanks going to grab one up 🏆🏆🏆
I just bought this thing.
@@BaconNinjaFPV awesome, thank you very much!
i would say so am running same stack on 2207.5 6s on 5in :)
@@wizardfpv7856 wow okay great to know! That gives me some confidence I could probably try flying 3d mode with this 3” build…just wish I knew what props to use for 3” 3d flying
I feel like i had something to do with this lol
100%
noooooo, i promise :p Honestly though, I had this whole thing planned for the past 2 weeks and was just now able to release the video.
I just bought one for my new demibot build (finally in stock)
I am thinking about one for the Grinderino!
Great video 👍🏻
This will work great for sub 4-450 gram builds.
It sure will! I am going to try it in a few bigger things and see how it goes, but 4" and less is really where it will shine.
@@BaconNinjaFPV
Only thing I wouldn’t put it on, is a racing or freestyle build that gets properly pushed.
Self degrading story time:
I literally changed the bearings on one motor 3 times (3!!!) thinking that I kept getting bad bearings (even though they were from my friends at NSK Japan), or that I wasn’t installing them right somehow, or that the motor bell or base was messed up somehow (even though they were perfect)…. I honestly started to think there was something wrong with me (real downward spiral energy) 😜…
It was soon after I started FPV, and I was a little scattered and overwhelmed. I didn’t have my troubleshooting system down to a science yet. Turned out it was the ESC, I changed the FETs on that channel and all was well 🤦♂️
BTW I ended up putting the original bearings back on that motor, so I changed bearings 4 times during this one troubleshooting session 😜
higher voltage == lower amps for the same power (or rpm). Also shattering the prop isnt the worst that can happen to an esc. It will draw more amps for longer if you crash the quad in to grass or dirt, and it tries to maintain its set rpm. To simulate this in a bench test, I would try making the prop catch a towel or something. That would stress the ESC.
-Stress-
_Released the Magic Smoke_
Let us lower our heads, in a moment of silence, for all those lost ESCs ~¿ô
absolutely true!!
Are there other things that can be tested using an old stick? 😅
looooooooots of other things :p
Bacon Ninja we miss your content please come back soon
Seems like a reasonable test to me. I've smoked motors while 🐢ing.
Great price. Small esc. 👍 I have higher rated 20x20 esc boards. But they're bigger. Hard to fit in smaller frames along with a digital vtx. This could help with that. 😎
Yeah my higher rated (45-55A) 20x20 boards have the right mounting holes, but they are so much bigger than this little thing. Kind of nice on the one side, but I always wonder if they are gonna pop the smoke at some point, lol. Looks like at least the one I got for this test could take it!
Semi un-trained professional 😅 good stuff right here!!
It is more of a glass half empty way to look at my level of professionalism :p
i have no idea how but ive put mine in an 3.5 race frame with the right motors and kv but after 2 days after purchase and 3 sessions it fried luckily only the esc was fried
now the question, how long does it work if you set it on fire 😂
yesssssssssssss!
the real winner here are the avans lol, the 3.5inch avans are so tough, never had one expode or lose a blade and they only really bend upwards or if they do bend down its only the tip and it dont reach the motor wires, where my gemfans previourly suffered all the above lol. also love my mamba f405 mk4 mini 30a stack
oh man, those avian props are real troopers! I always pick them when I can. They tend to be a tad heavier, but I have never quite had props hold up as well as they do in the sizes they come in.
Is Mamba better than SpeedyB?
@@memelol7167 in my opinion, yes, by far
More voltage on 6S draws less amps, not more. And TVS diodes don’t work because crashes that make the motors stop cause a higher amp draw, which causes a voltage dip, and TVS diodes cut voltage spikes. I think there’s a Bardwell or KababFPV video about this
No fried bacon on that ity bity fet grill.
🥓 👍🏻
Now I am stuck here with all of this uncooked bacon! Guess I gotta eat it anyway... :p
I haven't killed a WS VTX yet, but I sure do hear that lots of people don't have too hard of a time getting it done! lol
@@BaconNinjaFPV yeah I have 2 on the bench that seems to have died.
One after a crash, one just randomly stopped working.
Weird, because my 1s nano v1 WS vtx just keeps going while that 4" gets the most abuse.
5:01 Kids, don't try this at home! 👀
lol, even the adults dont try that one at home!
I bought two of the 30x30 stacks. What a mistake. They have a major design flaw and it’s having a lot of issues with betaflight 4.4 firmware. Wouldn’t be surprised if this small board has some of those issues as well.
what design flaw
Not to say it isn't possible that they were just bad boards, but from the hundreds of budget builds I have talked to people about only around 5% get a DOA stack component. Are you over on the discord? I'd love to see some pics of the build if you have them!
@@BaconNinjaFPV wasn’t DOA, worked for a couple weeks, few dozen packs. I haven’t had the opportunity to troubleshoot yet, it just died. I bought 3, I put another one in a moongoat with an 03.
I’m not on discord, I’m not just new to FPV, but computers and social media as well lol. I need to find my way over there.
noice
Size does matter go big or go home
Please use your words of persuasion to get some different stacks and run some more tests...filled with practical verification. Cheers!
I would love to! Unfortunately my words of persuasion are not so persuasive, and most vendors don't even write me back, lol. Outside of the ones taking part in the season of giving, the majority of them don't give me the time of day.
mine wants to catch fire just sitting idle
Press the motor and rise the throttle to see what happend
Burn mother fooker Burn. Let’s go semi untrained bacon person😂 Seriously it really amazed me how strong that stack is, and how much extra stuff you get with it for that price.
lolol, it really did take it like a champ!!! I only wish I had gotten some fire so I could have cooked bacon over the open flames of that disappointment.
Man I wish most youtube videos were super edited and abridged to be like 1-2 min. This is fun but too long
Sadly its Speedybee. They have reliability issues, and they won't give warranty replacements if you got a dud.
I have witnessed that warranty thing for sure. Unfortunately I have also witnessed it from almost all of the major brands too :( If there were one thing I could wish for in FPV it would be much better customer service all around!
i live right by racedayquads and rotor riot and i just go in and talk to them if i have something i get thats bad and they always give me a new one even with speedybee stuff
Just go fly it
I have found that I destroy far less things when I just go fly it, and people tend to break way more things than I do. This time I decided to just go straight to abuse of the parts to rough them up a bit, lol.
