I haven't found mention of firing the forge between rigidizer and refractory. I have found they say heat will not help the rigidizer dry any faster though
@@tranquilmentor interesting. I never found any instructions with my rigidizer. And I got the same stuff off Amazon. These companies really could do better with instructions
@@randygray8273 I know what you mean, it would be nice to have paper instructions to be able to refer back to. It seems everything is online now. We did find a link that may help. Try going to mrvolcano.com/pages/manuals Hope that helps!
How many pounds of satanizer did you buy for your forge. I liked your results. I just picked up a Vevor two burner forge and going to start the process. I have the hardenizer but not the satanite. Thanks for the video.
We purchased 4.5 pounds of satanite and used about 4 pounds of satanite! Hope that helps. Thanks for watching our video and we appreciate your comment!
I like it that you took the time and effort to ridgidize and coated with satanite can you tell me the measurements of the forge? Width length and circumference?
You did an outstanding job with your video and narration, Although I don’t think I would have applied the retardant mortar on the brick just because of over time of having to replace it because they do become brittle over time and I have had to get new ones, just my two cents but the mortar may keep this from happening perhaps. But none the less outstanding job and a credit to the hobby no doubt.
Coating the firebrick was just a choice at the time because we thought we would get longer life out of the brick. But leaving the brick easily replaceable would be a good option. We hope that helps. 😀Thanks for your question and thanks for watching our video.
I wish I saw this sooner I already applied the satanite but no video before yours spoke about a rigidizer so I never used any. Do you think it would be alright if I did not use rigidizer?
Hey Arkon. With what i saw/heard, rigidizer isn't needed when you apply satanite onto to the kaowool to protect it, all it does in that process is to make it easier to apply the satanite because the kaowool will be sturdy. If you would build a forge without any refractory tho, the rigidizer is needed to protect the Kaowool from mechanical wear and more importantly protect your lungs from loose flying Kaowool particals getting pushed out of the forge by movement and airflow. Cheers and Happy Forging
@arkonvolves7192 Hello Arkon, The rigidizer makes the Kaowool firm which gives the satanite a stable platform to bond to. As the satanite breaks down during use, the rigidizer also ensures that the kaowool particles are not airborne possibly getting into your respiratory system. Eventually the satanite will need to be replaced. We have used ours for over a year now and the satanite is starting to crack and will need to be re-applied. We appreciate your question and especially thanks for watching our video!😀
In the directions for the rigidizer there is a choice to choose Step A or Step B. In Step A the rigidizer gets dried for the 24 to 48 hours. But we chose Step B (shown in the video) where you could dry the rigidizer by lighting up the burner. We have seen other videos where they chose Step A and waited the 24 hours. Hope that helps! Thanks for your 😀comment and thanks for watching!
Thank you, a lot of useful information.
Glad to help! Thanks for watching!

It wasn't a speed issue for drying .. It was in the directions to cure the rigidizer! Thanks for watching!

@tranquilmentor I actually stumbled upon that myself the other day. Then went back to the Amazon listing and found where it contradicted itself
my directions said air dry overnight or more. then apply satanite and then again let dry a day or two before firing.

Thanks for the great informative video.

The width is 9 inches, the length is 10 inches and the circumference is about 25.75 inches! We hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

I am about to do this to the same forge. Great video. Any reason you coated the firebrick in satanite instead of leaving it easily replaceable?

@@-MissNox- Thanks! I supposed that was the case but figured I should ask.

I would of put the whole bottle in and then filled the bottle up and put it in since it says 50/50 easy peasy
Thanks for a great idea! and thanks for watching!
might be a good idea to handle the uncoated ceramic wool with gloves and mask. Inhaled fibers are really bad juju
