In Fall of the samurai battles its realy important to use the terrain. A hill can change a battle from a massacre to a glorious success.

Make sure to use hills to layer your gunpowder units so they can fire over the front lines heads
You can sometimes get up to 3 layers this way which massively increase your firepower over a short area

    My dearest beloved,
Our leader, Shimazu Hisamitsu, has led us to another great victory against our enemies in the Hyuga Province. though our army took several vollies from the enemy, we were still victorious. from what I counted we killed 1,400 of their men, while they lost 144 to their own men. we were able to push them back to their city. After laying siege to the city we stormed in and attacked. However we suffered Casualties, almost 800 men died for our leader, but the enemy garrison lost all their men and their city. I pray for the dead for they had died a warriors death. I hope to return to you soon my love.
    Your loving husband

You went straight into their broadsides in the naval battle, highly risky early on in the campaign. My advice would be to have deployed your ships wide on opposite sides so that the enemy ship has to commit to firing at one or the other. Minimise your time spent in their arc whilst they aren’t moving. When they pick a target and begin to turn to align their arc against it the other ship beelines for them as fast as possible staying between their firing arcs allowing you to close and board. Once boarding has begun the other ship beelines for them too at full speed. Making a second boarding action once it arrives. This only works on 2v1 though, so you can be more precise in the engagement, when naval battles start getting larger it’s a bit more of a free for all in tactics.

In late I game I used torpedo boats at close range by keeping them behind iron clads. So satisfying

Loving the campaign so far, since your a fan of the last samurai you might be interested to know that one of your generals, Saigon Takamori was the real life inspiration for Katsumoto Ken Watanabe’s character from the Last Samurai. In Kagoshima you can find many statues of Saigo Takamori he considered a true hero of the Boshin war

Nice job with that initial battle. The AI Leeroyed their cavalry into you, you made them pay, and the rest was a textbook envelopment. That was definitely the win you needed to get your momentum back.
The one thing I'd suggest is to *really* try and avoid making those little movements with your gun units to re-tweak your line mid-combat when you don't have to. If a gun unit is already firing at a target with no threat of being charged in melee, it's fine right where it is. Resist the urge to move them ten feet just to make your firing line look more geometrically pleasing; that time spent moving is just wasted shooting time with no real benefit.

The best tactic in this game is to make layers of soldiers over the hills to let them shot together overhead (they will not shoot each other) and maximize fire power. As well as for the naval battle, maximize the firepower by shooting the same ship with the most cannons possible, for that (especially in defense battle), make a lign of your ship and shoot altogether (like blackship tactic in Shogun 2)

You should try getting revolver cav more than saber, though a few sabers early on help. Revolver cav can move around the flanks while is focused on your gun line and blast them(they shoot really fast so their dps is crazy). They can still chase down fleeing enemies just as well. You won't have to worry about spears in melee quite as much with them as you can kite them. They also get the same accuracy buffs your infantry can get. (rifle cav lose the rapid firing benefit, so might not be as much of a need to replace them either)

I find the best early game cavalry is the Yari Ki, they are faster than saber cav and so can ambush gunpowder units more reliably. Revolver cav are really good too though, and it's so fun to watch them blaze away.

Nothing like the AI screwing up their attack with superior (or at least nearly equal) forces. I'm glad you didn't have to end the campaign early (that would have been a first), but still a little bit disappointed that you weren't truly pushed due to the limitations of the AI. Still, cheers to winning and pressing forward.
Oh...you CAN recruit specifically from the army, and the unit that you recruit will come to you. So, your army can recruit any unit that you have available to you (based on tech or buildings). So, if your army is not on the move, then it will come to you regardless of you moving it yourself.

    Hey Lionheart,
    1. You can only get both Cotton and Light Machines by trading with the foreign powers as soon you hit the third level of your Clan Development tree and there are no settlements on the map with cotton and light machines or a building you need to construct. And all you need is Light Machines to Construct the Army College for Republican Guard Infantry.
    2. And I watch your Obama Series and you briefly had both cotton and light machines when you reach the third level of your tech until you turn Republic, Then after that it bug out both the cotton and light machines And you were able to research Modern Army but Barracks was converting in to the Military Academy at Kaga at that turn when you turn Republic at Part 13 and I also watch MrSmartDonkey's Fall of the Samurai turn Republic series, This bug only happen when you turn Republic not when you stay loyal to the Emperor or Shogun.
    3. Conquer all of kyushu and destroy the Saga and research Modern Army and begin upgrading that Cadet School all the way to Army War College at your Capital ASAP.
    4. The Cotton Industry building is unrelated to the Cotton resources from the foreign powers.

I think other factions will reinforce when fighting a common enemy even if they're not your ally, so if you go in and attack Higa right now the Saga army should help you in battle. Pretty good chance to let them take all the damage for you and get the town basically for free

If this World II, I could believe the off shore naval bombardment. But the 1860’s come on. The ships were still firing board side. Plus no existing naval guns would have the range even if the could elevate the guns high enough. Also what about the fire coordination from shore to ship. How would they communicate with no radios. Total BS 😮

    • @James-kg7rv
      @James-kg7rv 11 месяцев назад

Ships in 1860 certainly had the fire power to destroy land targets. The British were taking over huge parts of the world with this technique decades before this.

@@James-kg7rv Yes if firing within the range of the guns arranged along the side of the ship. Not miles inland that would require guns with a high arch and sufficient range. Something that wouldn't be available until the First World War.
