Yes you should keep the Montblanc Boheme! It is a beautiful pen and the converter will be easier to change and hold ink. Have fun. Your collection is awesome!

The good thing about the nonretractable version is that it is easier to clean. If you get water inside the mechanism of the retractable you risk rusting it.

Ugh, it’s so hard because it’s so pretty and writes so well but the retractable one is so cool. I think if there’s a doubt, keep looking.

I think your Boheme is even more special since it is rare to get and a bit bigger, it’s very beautiful! Of course your confusion is understandable since they said it’s retractable. Could you talk to the seller how that could happen? Just asking for future pre-owned pen purchases what to look for.
Enjoy your Boheme with your Bebe in the perfect case you have 🧡

I have the smaller one with the retractable nib from year 2000, got it as a gift. I just saw an old stock of the non retractable nib in a montblanc boutique for $400, black with platinum trim and blue gem stone. Very attractive price I must say!

I bought a NTM Boheme and I found that I am using it more than my 146 because it fits in my hand better. I am scared of the stone falling out (I’ve seen them without the stone for sale at pen shows) and so I’m nervous about taking it out which is not an issue I have with the 146. If you love it, keep it and use it. The Glacier pen is stunning!

With MB I find that you should see if you actually use it and love it for a while before selling it. My Bohème is the Paso Doble red one that I got some years back. İt's the retractable one. To be honest I very rarely use it; but when I do, I am amazed at how much I love writing with it and wonder why I don't use it more often. I don't think I will ever consider parting with any of my MBs. My 149s either have the 'flex' nibs or the oblique nibs; and I even got lucky enough to get the O3B one before they stopped putting them on the market. It writes beautifully.. but I'll have to admit that in more recent years I wouldn't really consider a MB unless I get a really really good deal on it. I find that the weight of the brand name has surpassed the actual product they're offering regarding the price tag. Then again everyone values pens differently..
Your MB collection feels beautifully curated. As to the Bohème, you seem to enjoy it at the moment. Maybe see if you like it in the long run and then decide if you want to keep it or not

I love my Boheme, but the issue is trying to clean it! Mine got clogged and I sent it to Hamburg from my local boutique. MB returned it after repair with a note telling me off for not cleaning it lol, but its not possible to flush it like a normal converter pen! Great video btw :)

Plenty of lower profile, less expensive MBs out there in the second hand market. Often called 'student' pens, they are still high quality writing instruments, and less likely to be fakes than the big boys. I have a 320 (piston), and a 220 (cartridge), both have wonderful nibs and are reliable every day writers. Less girthy than my 149, but as we all know, size isn’t everything!

Lori, Montblanc just launched their 100th anniversary The Origins line of fountain pens. Sure your noble cause to limited acquisitions is honorable, but with this news, there goes these goals out the window, imo. At first glance, I don't think these pens will go on the vintage market, since collectors will probably make these keepsakes. For me, I will keep saving $, and hopefully have enough money later in the year to get the blue LeGrand, wish me luck.

Re: Montblanc FPs. I have the Meisterstück 149, and it's OK, but my favorites are the SEs EA Poe, and the Agatha Christie. The 149 is a classic size and shape, but the SEs both have more character, and I enjoy writing with them more. The only pens I post are the pocket-sized Kawecos, and Pilot Elite (AKA E95S). I prefer pens with cartridge/converter filling systems because they are easier to clean and change ink colors. I have only one pen display case, which I received as a gift. The rest of my pens are in cups or loose on my computer desk or the table next to it, and in cigar boxes in my bedroom. I just ordered a Pelikan Toledo M900 because I find the M700 a bit to small for me.

Regarding not seeing a nib width mark, montblanc does not mark nibs with the width, so unless you have the original sticker still on the pen no way to really know (especially since their acceptable variance for e.g. the widest "fine"and the narrowest "medium"overlaps)

  • @RobertMaguire67

I like the collection but if you wanted the Bohème that is like a safety pen with the retractable nib the pen you have is going to bother you. You best trade it off or at least add the pen you want in the collection. I have the Bohème that twists and as nice as it is it’s a pain to clean, it can clog up if you short cut on cleaning it fully. You will love the Mozart if you can find one. I think you will like the Rouge et Noire also but to be fair my Moonman replica actually outperforms the real deal by taking a little more ink and the nib being steel is darn smooth. The 147 traveller with the leather case given your love of travels would also be a pen you should add as you are on the hunt for a MB Hemingway. That’s it for my comments…

Wow, the 149 are so huge! XD is the Glacier about the same size as a 146 or is it more of a 144? They look like they write so beautifully!! >< I must have one someday soon. And omg so sorry your Mercari Montblanc's were fake. I don't get why Montblanc's are the only ones with the highest rate of fakes xD

I would definitely be letting the real real know about the false description, if they fully authenticated this pen then seems strange this happened. They might also offer a further discount for their error.

  • @1mrgoodman

I think I'd get annoyed at a cartridge only pen, but I'd also not just settle. I know all to well about the "newness" bias. It's hard to let go of something nice, even if is something we didn't really want. You'll just have to weight how you'll feel in a few months after the newness wears off. Either way, I really do like Montblanc pens and I am sure this one will provide a great writing experience. Perhaps even worthy of a custom grind!
