Today I take a look at my fountain pen collection and reflect on which pens were my favorites this year from each of the brands that I own. These are my thoughts and opinions as of December 2023. I look forward to see who ends up on top in 2024! Thanks so much for watching! Be sure to like and subscribe to follow my fountain pen adventures!
You could try a cartridge in your vanishing point for increasd capacity. A dozen pilot black cartridges costs about $4 or you could try filling an empty one with your prefered ink 😊 If your feeling adventurous you could also try switching your winter rain 21k nib into a different pro gear slim that posts better.
OH MY! Is ANYONE that adventurous? I need more information on how to swap out a sailor nib from the smaller body to something larger. (A bespoke pen maybe??)
Hi…. I loved the Kaweco Sport in Bordeaux when I saw it in your collection! I just got mine and love it as much as I did when I saw yours! I just inked it with Robert Oster Maroon 1789! Perfect ink for it. Thanks for turning me on to this pen color!😊
Love the video and all your thoughts on your fav pens. I think it’s so interesting how our tastes evolve over time and I love seeing what others really enjoy. I love buying second hand because it forces me to try new nibs and get out of my comfort zone. I managed to get a blueberry estie with a 1.1 stub and had no interest in the nib until I tried it!
Omg yes. Hi Lori. Olga here ,I had that discoloration experience in my M. 400. Very disappointing , but I consulted Tom “The Pelikan Man “ at the show and he said it can be corrected . Love this video. Thank you for taking the time to Share
Thank you both. I'm hoping I can get it out. I also should store my pens in somethings better than the clear acrylic case they're in now. Thanks for watching.
Nice collection Lori. Regarding your Pelikan: That is tarnish on the ring. I have a video on how to fix it :) Regarding 149, the modern mediums have glorious nibs. The modern broad is quite crisp. I say go for it :)
Thank you!! My Montblanc 149 with a Medium nib arrived last week! I'm really loving it. I'm not sure of the date. I think it could be from the 80s. Still researching. I look forward to checking out your video! Thank you!
If you like Lamy with a black PVD nib, Goulet Pens has their exclusive Vista black that comes with black matching trim. The pen comes off modern tech core, and showcases your shimmer & sheening inks. Also comes with a matching black converter.
I got a TWSBI Mini for Christmas and I absolutely love it. I also have a black Matt Lamy safari with black hardware which has become my favourite Lamy. Such a lovely video 🖊
With all your expensive and inexpensive pens, I’m surprised you don’t have a Retro 51 Fountain Pen. My Retro 51 Fountain Pen is an affordable pen that I didn’t have to tweak the nib - an excellent writer out-of-the-box. You need to try one for sure.
The Pro Gear, like the 1911 comes in a few sizes including their King of Pen. But many of their special colors are in the slim size which is the smallest with a 14k nib. The large and King are 21 k.
Thank you for this interesting video. Don’t worry because of the cap band of your M800. Unfortunately it happens sometimes. You can polish it very carefully and easily with a silver cleaning cloth. The golding is only slightly tarnished. 👍🏼🤩
I have the same issue with one of my M800 as well. Although concerning, it is easy to clean thankfully. Hopefully the tarnishing won't diminish your enjoyment of the pen over time. @@timewithtata8004
Melly=clicky=maka (Merry Xmas)! Regarding the Pelikan 800: Yes, it and another couple of pens with gold trim that I was keeping in a gift felt-lined display box developed black discoloration (tarnish?) on the trim, which polished out. It was likely caused by the adhesive used to hold the felt in place. I use that display box only for pens with silver-colored trim, and have had no further trouble. And, when I buy Pelikans (of which I have many), I always get them with an F nib. Pelikan M nibs write more like a B. If you like the Chinese Jinhao, you may want to take a look at the new models of Hongian. I have four of them already; good quality build, write well, and are less than $50.00.
Feedback is the sound and feel of the nib on the paper. I think it feels similar to writing with a very sharp pencil ( but better). Some people confuse feedback with scratchiness. They are very different. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Hey, thank you for your wonderful video! I love your content. You sound like a huge Pilot fan. If you can find a good deal, try a vintage Namiki Falcon. I have one, and the nib is absolutely gorgeous.
I really need to try the Falcon! It's been on my list. Is there a big difference between the vintage and modern Falcon? I'm eyeing the brown metal Falcon pen. Thanks for watching!
@@timewithtata8004 I have a talentum with mid nib and I planned to buy a 88 big with F nib. I love Optima aesthetically but it's too short for my hand. Aurora black is magic: I 've always used waterman blue-black since black tend to dry too quickly. They both can't compare. Black Aurora's ink made my Waterman Expert with F nib work like never before. No skipping

It might just be the gold plating oxidizing. Gold doesn't rust, but it can darken in color in spots. I think moisture has something to do with it.

@@timewithtata8004acrylic cases as well as leather cases really should not be used for long term storage due to offgassing
fantastic video, merry christmas 😊😊

My Custom 823 Amber M was also a gift from my husband.
how fun, thanks again for posting
So glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching. Happy Holidays!
Thanks for sharing. I am thinking that the black vanishing point will be my next pen. I tried it in Yoseka and it wrote beautifully
You can't go wrong with the VP. I'm glad you had the chance to write with it at Yoseka.
I recommend you try the Montblanc 146 calligraphy. This is actually a great everyday writer.
Thank you! I need to have a 146 in my collection someday.

Great suggestion! Thank you!
I enjoy the Parker Sonnet with an 18k nib the most. Sent it to France for Nib replacement Fine point. Thank you for your informative video.
I'm not familiar with that pen. I hope I get the chance to try it someday!
If that m800 is under warranty you should send it in, definitely not normal discoloration on the cap ring.
Sadly I bought it off of eBay, but it was new. I'm going to try to polish it....
The Leonardo Sand is such a beautiful resin! out of all their nice colors Sand is my fovorite.
It's a true classic!
I got a TWSBI Mini for Christmas and I absolutely love it. I also have a black Matt Lamy safari with black hardware which has become my favourite Lamy. Such a lovely video 🖊
Thank you! Isn't the TWSBI mini fabulous! Still my favorite of all of my TWSBIs. The black matte lamy sounds so classy!
Whens your pocket pen vid coming out?
It's out!! xoxo
Lovely collection, very impressive.
Thanks so much! It's so much fun using these beautiful pens!
Very nice >>>>> Thank you .
Thanks for watching!
Fun vid, thanks.

I need to try the Retro 51!
The next time you purchase a platinum, give the bold nib a try, there’s no going back to a medium or fine for me.
Ooh that sounds like fun!! I wish I had a broader nib on my Shape of Heart. Thanks for watching!

Well I will probably comment often. I agree with you on the Pilot choice. I have many to choose from and I too gra for the VP on a daily basis .
Great minds think alike! xoxo
Very nice reviews.
Thank you!

I have many fountain pens too ranging from $1.53 Jinhaos to $1500 MB. My favorite is Jinhao X 159 in every way.
It's not always about how much you spend, right! I just ordered the Jinhao 9019 in the demonstrator. I can't wait to try it!
Absolutely. I hope that you will enjoy your 9019.

Personally, I got a fantastic deal on that famous online auction site. It was close to a 'new old stock'. It's a 26 year old Namiki branded Elabo.
Sailor, OH GOODNESS what a hard choice. However I have to give it (hands down) to the PRO GEAR with a M nib.
That nib is incredible!
Visconti Homo Sapiens Lava Fountain Pen Ash White, Do you have problem with ink stain on the section when fill up the pen?
I've never had any staining and I've put some really saturated inks in that pen. I always make sure I wipe it clean after inking it up.
Franklin-Christoph model 19 will give you a AWH moment!
I do need to try this pen! I've heard so much about it!
Thank you for the video! Your pronunciation of "Montblanc" is almost perfect, if you care, the "c" at the end is silent ;)
It's a pity you don't have a high level Aurora or Monteverde - speaking about Italian fountain pens
Aurora is on my wishlist this year!

Very good video and it deserves much more likes. My humble recommendation is to shorten them to 15 minutes max. to get more attention.
Thank you! I've always struggled with shorter length videos. I'm working on it this year! xo
Yes, you shocked me with some knock-off pens. Nevertheless, most pens are very nice. So thanks for showing them to us. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
The Pilot Con-40 converter is not well loved.
It's a tough one to love, isn't it?!
