  • Billy Crystal worked with legendary wrestler Andre the Giant in the 1987 classic The Princess Bride. That's where he got the idea for his "comedy of incredible proportions" that teams him up with basketball star Gheorghe Mureșan, the tallest player in NBA history.
The result is not so incredible.
    My Giant (1998)
Produced by Castle Rock Entertainment and Distributed by Columbia Pictures
    Directed by Michael Lehmann
    Written by David Seltzer
Starring Billy Crystal, Gheorghe Mureșan and Kathleen Quinlan. With appearances by Dan Castellaneta, Estelle Harris, Lorna Luft, Rider Strong, Verne Troyer and Steven Seagal

I actually find this movie to be pretty underrated. It's not great, but it's not bad either.

The first half has some laughs. But it deteriorates pretty quickly after that.

At least Kazaam with Shaq kind of funny.

At least Kazaam keeps a consistent tone. Not that it's necessarily a better movie.

Correction, Warner Bros. did not distribute the film, it was produced by Castle Rock, likely developed sometime before the Turner/Time Warner merger, Sony distributed the film via Columbia Pictures, but is now owned by WB

Fair Point. It is a charming movie until about the halfway point. Then it really goes down an awkward, unpleasant path. Just my opinion, though. My thought is: Why not stick with the funny?

@@hollywoodvulture because i think sometimes a charming funny plot might need some kind of deep and unorthodox feelin at its peak.

@@exnihilio89 There's something about that scene where Max's long lost love is yelling at Billy Crystal that just rubs me the wrong way. It's nastiness piled on top of schmaltz. The movie became too depressing for me by the end.

I remember the vomit scene when I was younger and was convinced that I dreamt it. The only reason I found this video was cuz I was at a party and we were watching a vhs copy of the rocky horror picture show. On this copy was a preview for My Giant and then I realized that it was the movie.
This puke scene is gross as fuck, it stuck in my memory.

I'll never understand why movies equate vomit and feces with comedy. It's a desperate move.

@@hollywoodvulture I feel like it could work with good timing. It's not funny in and of itself for me. If anything it's gross as fuck and cringey.
