Uncut Moments with my Monitors

  • Just a few longer uncut videos of me hanging out with my monitors. My videos are usually demos of how I've tamed/socialized/trained them but I also like to make these longer form uncut moments to share what the relationship is like on a day-to-day basis. Most of my time with them is spent just hanging around like this but there are always these beautiful moments happening that I can share with you without having to sort through 50 videos and chop out 100 small clips to edit together just to prove my methods or make a point. It's always good to refocus on the reason I spend any amount of time training these guys in the first place, and that's because I love them, and absolutely adore just hanging around them in my free time, goofing off with them. Videos like this also give you a better idea of how my days are normally spent with these guys when I'm not actively working with them.
I'm currently working on my new Ackie enclosure for Lil Joy. This is probably going to take me several more weeks, so don't expect to see any high effort videos from me in the short term. I'll likely be sharing a few more of these longer-form, uncut, videos though... as they are easier to produce and I have a ton of these moments just sitting around in my folders. Many of them will still contain teachable moments but that is not the purpose of these videos.
As always, feel free to ask questions or just chit chat with me in the comments, I love nothing more than discussing monitors with people and learning about other's experience with them.
    Enjoy.

Hmmm, I'm not getting notified on all my comments for some reason. Thank you... I like sharing longer form whatever moments because you don't see a lot of that posted. Most videos of reptiles are feedings, care guides, or enclosure builds. I genuinely love watching these dummies going around and just messing with things and watching them figure stuff out. I figure other people out there might like it too.
I'm definitely going to put that thing in his new enclosure when I get around to building that.

Haha little boy has become little Joy ! Too funny ! But cute name ! This was another great video….love seeing Kale, Ajax & “LiL Joy” wondering around ! & well behaved most of the time…funny how the one decided to find & snack on the roaches lol that was pretty funny 🦎
It’s crazy how well these guys can smell food from clear across the room ! I had a plate of scrambled eggs sitting on my coffee table and Georgia was roaming around. All of a sudden, he climbs up the back of the couch gets to the top of the couch and he’s looking over my shoulder like….whatchu got over there lol…. if I didn’t put him back in his enclosure, I’m pretty sure he would’ve jumped over me and landed next to my plate on the coffee table and gobbled down my eggs ! 🤣🤣
Question…. what is the heat contraption that is on top of the Ackies enclosure that they are always laying on that you mentioned in the video ? Never knew what that was…& had no idea it produced heat 🤔

Yeah, I use sound a lot more with the Ackie and saying Lil Joy with the same inflection as Lil Boy worked well when I tested it after confirming she was female. I'm so used to calling out with that sound when I approach the enclosure, I wanted to keep it as similar as possible. Not unlike your own Georgie issue.
Those are LED lights(Fluval Aquasky 2.0). The two smaller enclosures are screen tops so the LED strip is sitting on top of the enclosure. This is why nobody hangs out on Ajax large enclosure as the LED strip is inside so no heat source to lay around on atop the enclosure.
They are laying on the heat sink used to dissipate the heat it generates. Not ideal for the LED strip's longevity, but they have been doing this for almost 2 years now without issue. The new Ackie enclosure will have one inside and then I think I'm going to remove this one from the old Ackie enclosure and just lay it down on top of the new enclosure for this purpose - lol.

That is quite interesting that Kale trailed back through something in that distance, is there a study done on this type of behaviour?

I don't think so. When I use that bowl, I just let them grab roaches right out of it while I hold it. So 10m before that he was on top of the Ackie enclosure picking roaches out of it while I held it for him. He coulda just been watching me closely as I walked away and saw me place it there before I sat down at my computer or he could have just been roaming that way and then smelled it as he got close, who knows. I thought he was coming to see me - lol.
They have really good senses though. I've dropped a bunch of roaches inside Ajax enclosure on accident during past feedings, there's probably a half dozen or so roaches in there. On days where I don't feed him, he'll start hunting those lost roaches. It's pretty fun to watch, especially when it's clear they are inside something he can't get into. He'll spend like an hour trying to figure how to pry open the cork tree in his enclosure. It's all sealed inside with foam, there are some small pockets, but nothing Ajax would be able to get into. But it's clear he smells something inside there and it's probably one of these roaches. Every now and then he will find one while digging around in the plants or corners of the enclosure.

Etsy... Pretty sure it was this guy:
      www.etsy.com/shop/CreatureCreativeArt?ref=shop-header-name&listing_id=1297389509&from_page=listing
But you can find a bunch of different styles on etsy by searching for like reptile plaque or something similar.

@@TreeMonitorTraining is it built by him? I swear I saw the same enclosure in Dubia shop or something online, i could be wrong.
How much was it? (enclosure isnt in the link)

@@EXOScaper-sf1mu That enclosure is made by Dubia. He's referring to the laser-etched wooden plaque at 1:07 that has details about the Ackie monitor species on it.
