  • This is more of an addendum to the series but I feel like it fits perfectly here at the end. Just a nice little demo of Ajax's imprint after nearly a year of no real ladder training.
Once a month or so, Ajax asks me to take him to the ladder or I drop by it to see if he still remembers the game like I've shown in a recent video. But there has been no daily repping happening for almost year with him.
If you pause at 1:28, there's a good example of how they walk on their knuckles while navigating my skin. Their claws are rarely in contact with my skin and when they are, the point of the claw is almost parallel to the surface of my skin. Since I have always remained stable and given them a comfortable ride when they are on me, they feel no need to grip with their claws, and so never scratch me. This is a great showcase of how the animals behavior can be shaped by yours in these interactions over time. They are studying you just as much as you are studying them and they have learned through repeated steadiness on my part, that they are secure and in no danger of being dropped.
I didn't see the Ackie at 8:26, where he got close to one of my dogs, but I'm not concerned about it. I've seen this occur dozens of times. The dogs know they're not supposed to be near the monitors and will always get up and leave when the monitors approach them. The monitors themselves know the dogs are not a threat to them and so every now and then they get curious and will approach within a couple feet of the dog to get a better look. You can see at 8:37, my dog was already getting up to leave, but the Ackie was already moving away at that point, so she just laid back down.

Havnt even gotten the keys to my new flat, its gonna be some time before any animal will be added to a viv that yet has to be built
But ive already secured help from someone who had a full sized green iguana male some time ago and thus has some experience with building custom vivs

So much trust from Ajax 👍👍👍
Amazing to see how playful he is.
All the monitors look so happy and healthy. It's such a joy to see the animals thrive 😁
    Incredible training, great video

Thank you! I've been spending so much time on the other two lately, that it's been a good while, especially on a weekday lunchbreak , where I've just played with
Ajax a bunch. I owe everything I've learned about these animals to my early time with Ajax. It felt great to walk him around yesterday and just enjoy watching him have fun.

I likd the idea of a jumping /climbing tool.Just a suggestion, instead of a ladder, what about using a cat climbing tower/scratching post. I saw a 54" tower for only $19.99 on Amazon. Very cool with with flat platforms and hidding hut.

For sure... I have a small cat tower sitting atop the Ackie enclosure and I got my first ever successful clean offer from the Ackie there. Kale has climbed the scratching post part several times and used it to scratch against, so it's useful there as well.
Like I've pointed out in my videos, the ladder was just a chance occurrence that Ajax started roaming around the time I changed out that light bulb. He fell in love with it, so I left it there to see what he'd do with it. After watching him play on it, it just dawned on me one day how I could use it to condition him over time to return to me when prompted.
I wouldn't immediately set it up, drop him off there and attempt to coax him off though. I would try to introduce it naturally. Since it's a tall structure, they should already be drawn to it. Once they started playing with it on their own, then I would make the move to start using it to condition them.
Kale was never interested in the ladder when I was working with Ajax. I wasn't going to force him to play with me if he didn't want to. When I recently went back and tried again with Kale now that he was older and more secure, it only took a few minutes to get him into it.

Odd question, but could you explain how you set up that Zen Habitats enclosure for one of your tree monitors? I bought that model recently and want to make it as comfortable for my future friend as I can before I go looking.

Let me get home from work and check my files. I might be able to throw up a private vid today I can link here for you to see what I did. If I don't have anything from that time, I'll just come back and explain it here. Cus yeah, I had a lot of issues when I got it as it's real rikkety and they hate vibrations, not to mention the open top which sucks for humidity.

The video is going up now unlisted... here is the link. It's still processing. Please copy and save this link somewhere so you can access the video. Let me know when you have the link saved because I want to delete this comment as the video is really rough, even for my low standards and i just wanted to give you a quick walkthrough of what i have sone with that enclosure and dont want this video to be seen by a ton of people. I'm not going to unlist the video but i don't want this link hanging around ehre for days.

How old is your tree monitor? Im interested to see how big these things get. Is that the biggest he will get or will he get bigger. I'm asking because I've seen a pair that were massive. Maybe twice the size of yours? I have one too and mine is about the same size of yours.

Were they green tree's though? Some of the other one's like blue tree monitors can get bigger. I haven't measured in a while, but Ajax is a couple inches over 2 ft and Kale is an inch or 2 longer. I don't think they are full grown but don't expect them to get a lot bigger. From everything I've seen GTM can be 2 1/2 to a bit over 3ft.

@@TreeMonitorTraining okay thanks, he still got some growing to do then it seems. They were emerald tree monitors which I read are the same as GTM. Though the ones I saw were more of a dark jade color compared to the lime green color.

@@ysp.96 Sounds like a beautiful color for them. Where exactly did you see them, was this a video, a reptile show, or like a zoo? GTM should be one of the smaller of the tree monitors, could it have been a perspective thing.

@@TreeMonitorTraining at the zoo. That's what I read and been hearing too that greens are the smaller ones. But in a podcast Brandon Asten mentioned that he has a male green that rivals the size of his black and blue. It would be nice if he could show us a comparison.
