- I headed to Bangladesh again with Sarah at the end of 2022, and share some snippets here from the streets of Dhaka using the Leica M-A. From Old Dhaka and Sadarghat to Kawran Bazar and Mohakhali, you'll get a sense of what it's like exploring and photographing this dense capital city.

Hey Hashem, I see you've already received lots of (well-deserved) love in the comments here, but I just wanted to add that I know how much work, time, and thought is involved in turning an enjoyable and stimulating photowalk into a video like this. You obviously know that it was worth it, but I just want to add my recognition and appreciation. ✌
Hey Steven, I appreciate the feedback! You are right, but still I find it really fulfilling to put them together and share these experiences, even if these kind of videos are not the kind that get big views or numbers on my channel historically 😁 Glad you enjoyed it.
Wow! What a production! I felt like I was looking at a television documentary. Well done Hashem. That shot of the “weaver man” is phenomenal. Love the commentary as well about your thought process. Thoroughly enjoyed this 👌🏽.
I really liked this video. That fog at the beginning… Loved the photos as well. People seemed really friendly.
Thank you!
Maybe the best POV youtube video out there. The shots are undeniable.
Thank you!
One of the most enjoyable videos about travel/street photography I have ever watched. I love the way that you interact with the people you meet Hashem, they all have a story to tell and you are the kind of guy that they like to tell it to, because you listen and really engage with them. Love your 'layered' approach to candid street photography in particular.
I know what you mean about Bresson's 'decisive moment', but just because that moment may be a fleeting instant doesn't mean that you don't have to prepare ahead of time in order to find it with your camera. Nicely done mate, keep making videos like this and I guarantee I will keep watching them. Cheers.
Thanks very much mate, I appreciate the continued support 😄
Lots of great images created on this trip Hashem. My favourite is the tailor(?) behind the sewing machine. Wow, man! 👌🏼
Thanks Mikey, glad you like that one!
The opening felt like I was watching vice news
This video was so cool! Loved the image of the guy through the cylinder. Talk about decisive moment.
Glad you liked it! :-)
So glad I found your channel after buying my first film camera last week. Very inspired by your images and loved following your walks and watching your interactions with the people you meet along the way. Well done.
Hey, thanks so much! I'm really glad it provided a bit of inspiration 🙂
When the book comes out, please reserve one for me Hashem. Beautiful images and vlog! Congratulations again!
Thanks Reuel! I have actually started working on one 😁
Hashem, this was great. I am in love with your black and white photos. Cheers!
Thanks very much! I hope to put together a book of black and white work from the last years :-)
Wow, wow, wow!!! Everything about this is great!
Thank you!
one of the best vlogs I have seen for some time. Super images, especially those of everyday life upon the misty morning water
Thanks so much!
So good. Very enjoyable video. I feel like your m-a rig is the perfect tool for the scenes.
Glad you like it!
Hashem this was a dynamic injection of time and space, and full of such vibrant colours, and then you managed to turn it on its side with a simplified representation of that vibrancy, using B&W film as the happy medium. This was an exceptional look into a different culture and travel experience, thank you.
Much appreciated! Thanks for checking it out
Hashem this is by far one of the best vlogs on this channel, really enjoyed the journey into Dhaka. Great job :)
Glad you liked it!
Great video, Hashem. You videos (and photos) are always top notch, but this one was especially great. Sure enjoy these. Thanks!
Thanks! glad you like them :-)
Great street work, and one of the best follow-along vlogs I’ve seen in a while. I’m hoping to see some the pics you took on that trip in your next zine. Cheers, and thanks!
Thanks! I'm working on a book that will include plenty of the work from this trip :-)
I’m at the gym right now but as soon as I’m home this will be the first thing I do after I get settled in for sure! Looking forward to watching this Hashem! Really love your work and ur personality as well!
Hey thanks, I really appreciate that!
Hashem! I have had a tab open with this video since it dropped, just waiting for the right time to watch it. Finally did tonight while scanning some film and man was it worth it. Such great shots, but also the insight into shooting in the area itself as well. Your work on layering subjects within your frame is paying off dividends. The shot at 4:51 literally made my jaw drop, and then smile and say "Yeah, he did the damn thing." So much more interesting than the typical street photography you see most days on youtube. There's a sense of being actually in the environment, not just physically, but emotionally. The photos come off as representing your curiosity of these spaces, and never leaned into the dangerous realm of exploitation. Keep up the fantastic work, dude.
Hey Chris, thanks so much man! I've been have a stressful couple of days and the sincerity of your feedback made me feel that bit better 🙂 Thanks for keeping that tab open, and glad you enjoyed it!
Great work Hashem! Cheers from Greece!
Thanks a lot!
Felt like I was there with you. Also love the results!
Glad you enjoyed!
Great video and great shots! Love your style. Still getting my head around sunny 16 and zone focussing and trusting the process. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you! Yeah its tough at first but gets much easier. You may have already seen it but my last video was about sunny 16 metering 🙂
I really enjoyed this video and the wonderful photos that you took!
Thank you so much!
Really interesting video!! Bangladesh is on the list of countries I would like to visit. Lived and worked in Pakistan, travelled in India but never made it to Bangladesh. I am looking forward to the continuation. 👍👍
Thank you! That's awesome, I'm sure they're beautiful countries too (both on our list to visit also 😁)
Incredible photos, great work here.
Thank you!
Your photography really is quite good. This video was so great. 😀
Thanks Jen! 😀
Great vid! Thanks from The Netherlands!
Thanks for watching!
OMG. Love it so much. ❤
I was in Dhaka a lot in 2014/15, working at Grameenphone. Unfortunately it was mostly just working, and staying in Gulshan/Baridhara. Great shots. And nice to see Dhaka again.
This is perfect! Man, I love your Vlog POV videos. And the photos are just *Chef's Kiss*
Thanks very much!
I really enjoyed the video Great stories !!
You are quite the videographer, Hashem! Beautifully done. Great mix of video, your photos and background music. 👍🏻
Thanks so much!
OMG. Amazing adventure! Great video. India is so beautiful and mystifying! You also captured some great photos on film!! Now I want to go there!!!!

Amazing shots in this one! Looks like a great experience to shoot there! Thanks for sharing.
Cheers
Thanks! It really is :-)
Really enjoyed the video, and your little introduction to Bangladesh. Your work in this video is outstanding, both the colour work in the morning light, and the black and white street stuff - got that Zone Focussing down. Looking forward to seeing more.
Thanks Owain!
So many awesome shots man 🙏
Thank you 🙂
Hashem, many, many thanks for sharing these visuals - enjoying how you got "into" the local environment and managed to convey the reality of their activities and living.
Thanks for watching it! 😀
Wow amazing photography, I'm really happy I stumbled onto your channel! Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks very much!
this is just so good man
Thank you 😁
This was a great post. Such a visually rich location, rendered all the more beautiful by that MA and your eye of course! Very inspirational 👏🏻
Thank you :-)
Nice shots mate!
Thank you!
Brilliant vlog!!
Thank you!!
Both the videos and photos show a place that looks like a different world.....some of it had a strong dreamlike quality....good stuff Mr McAdam!!
Thanks Dave!
Great video thanks
Thanks for watching!
Watching this makes me feel like I need to practice so much more! Absolutely stellar photography!
Are you going to put these in a book or a zine?
Thank you! Yes, I am in early stages of a book of black and white street photography book, which will include shots from this trip :-)
Beautifully done...
Thank you!
Very nice video, looks wonderful
Thanks man!
Amazing photos! I really wish Kodak would release Color Plus on 120.
That would be cool! the closest thing we have for now is Kodak Gold 200 :-)
Gorgeous photos, absolutely amazing! Thanks for sharing, Hashem. Also, is there a language you don't speak? 😅 you're making us bilinguals look bad, haha! Cheers for another great video!
Thank you! Haha I'll often just cram the basics in the months or weeks preceding a trip.. Problem is I forget it pretty quicky afterwards. I did the same for Turkiye but have forgotten almost everything.
One of my favorite street videos, thank you! Can I ask if you happen to use a filter for your 28mm or just the hood when shooting color? I’m looking into a yellow filter for B&W (maybe a clear as well for color) which I see you use (love the photo rendering!). I see the hood in some shots and not in others so just curious of your setup. Appreciate your insight!
Thanks! I sometimes use a yellow filter with black and white. I don't have the correct size so I was using a stepping ring, meaning the hood can't go on top 😅 But with colour I don't use any filter except a UV, usually.
@@pushingfilm thank you so much! I appreciate you taking the time to respond! I use a clear filter for color just to protect the lens. This video is an overall great experience 👍
Amazing shots and layering! What's your development like for your hp5?
Thank you! For this batch I used HCC-110 dilution H. I normally use E, or even B if I'm pushing to 1600
🔥🔥📷🔥🔥
Great photos. Did you push hp5?
Thanks! Nope, didn't push any rolls here
Great video. I liked it a lot but I still think photos would have been a lot better in colors ( with low saturation ). Just my opinion.
Can I ask how do you travell with film? You just put it into the xray or you ask for a manual check?
I generally just keep it in my carry on and put it through the Xrays. I asked for a manual check out of Melbourne since they had CT scanner
Fantastic! So much action in India.
Thanks! Also, different country 😁
@@pushingfilm 😅 India's neighbour has action too!
@@Justfk001 For sure, I want to visit there too
How do you manage to stay safe when shooting at that close? People are ok with that? They don’t look friendly in your video but they don’t attack you either.
People there were more genuinely friendly on average than anywhere I've been in Australia, Europe etc. It just might seem that they're not because of how uncommon/fascinating it is for them to see an outsider.
