You’re photographs are amazing! They have a strong documentary feel that I have been longing for in my work.
Dang man that means a lot!
the 28 on my Q2 is *chefs kiss*
that paired with a 50 and a 24-70 on my R6's on wedding day is most of the coverage i'll ever need!
great video gene!
Heck yeah that sounds like a pretty darn perfect set up to me
Most times I'm perfectly fine with just the q2. I just get close when I want to fill the frame.
My greatest (first world problems) regret is that my dad's old M6 is 0.85 and 35mm is the widest it can go before needing an external viewfinder. I toyed with the idea of getting another M6 in 0.7 but in the end picked up a Leica Q3 last week and couldn't be happier. So now my minimal kit has a Leica Q3 and an M6 with 50mm Summilux. 28/50 is a match made in heaven!
That's still a super fun kit you have!
28mm gang, politely checking in. I’ve got the MS-Optics Apoqualia which produces some quirky imagery with a ton of character across f/2-4 when I have to shoot at those apertures. Loving it so far. Enjoyed the video, Gene!
Yo! I've never heard of the lens but it sounds like it's a blast to shoot. Appreciate the kind words!
Wonderful video! Keep up the good work 🤩
Thanks so much!
I just got the minolta sr-7 with a 28mm. I think it offers the a sweet-spot for intimate and wide angle photography. Thanks for sharing, Gene!
Heck yeah! I'm with you!
Love 28! Especially for family/travel/interior/street as in your examples. I have went from 50 to 35 to 28 on my M7. But the real game changer came when changing to a 0.58. Especially when you wear glasses🤓Do it🙏🏻
Hahaha yes!! Glass wearers shooting rangefinders for the win!
Same boat! 28 Elmarit and a 50 Summilux. My fav. combo.
killer combo
I just got my new M6 2022 and pair with Elmarit 28mm V4 (pre-asph). Playing with first roll Porta 400😎. Jumping from Nikon F5 20mm f2.8 is brilliant. But I have not finish my first roll yet😂!
You have lots great shots! I wonder whether all your shots were taken with zone focusing?
Cheers
That’s awesome! Some were, some weren’t
Hey @GeneYoon great video! 28 has been my staple since my Fuji days (mostly switched over to Leica now), when I started realizing that the focal length (and lens) I loved the most was my xf18mm f2 (27-28mm FF). That lens is pretty much hated unanimously in the Fuji community, but it has a certain charm to its images that’s hard to replicate. When I switched to Leica, originally when I bought the MP, I got the 28 Ultron II, but it for whatever reason doesn’t mount on my camera properly (tried 3 lol). I upgraded to the 28mm Elmarit ASPH II and haven’t looked back. The lens at normal distances (not super close up on a subject) just has such a beautiful rendering to it; so all that is to say, not only am I in the 28 camp with you, I’m also in the 28 Elmarit ASPH camp!!
Let's go!!! Thanks for sharing. I'm definitely excited to continue shooting with the 28 and how my work will progress with it
Love WIDE ANGLE lenses! Great Video.
same! And thanks so much!
Recently got a 28 elmarit Asph v2 myself. Really wanted to challenge myself this year since I’ve been shooting a ton of 50. I also used the 35 ultron v1 and while it’s an incredible lens, I got really bored of it. Love the candid photos you shared!
Thats super rad and thanks so much!
Nice shots.
thanks!
Definitely 28mm for me for street photography. It expresses more context in which my subject is in and also great for landscape when you are traveling. One lenses for all!
100%!
I was a 28 guy forever, but since I shoot fujifilm and they haven't updated the 18f2 in over a decade I bought the 16f2.8, and now I think I'm a 24 guy. 😂
Haha also a great focal length!
I have Fuji too and carry a 16 2.8 and 35 f2 😊😊
28 felt too wide for me until i got myself a q2. After a while I am loving it. Now i am using the q2 in combo with the r5 and the 50 for work. But i still need a 28 for my film m Do you use the 65 on the mamiya 7 then ?
that's a sick set up! And yes I do use the 65 with the mamiya 7
Good video. Thank you
thanks for the support!
Nice insights, considering moving from 35 to 28 this year. What's the hood you've got on that elmarit?
Thanks! It's the Haoge LH-M36B and it's great.
28mm on a rangefinder is awesome because zone focussing becomes easier than with a 35mm or 50mm. It can make the M camera a point and shoot in a way.
Couldn't agree more
My challenge is I have an m6 / ttl .85 which means I can’t see the frame lines. A buddy of mine loan me his 28 mm Leica and I tried framing, thinking just use the edge of the view finder. I tried but even with ‘pretending’ the view finder edges will wok as my frame limes..but no joy because it’s even wider than the the view finder..any thoughts?
dang that's a bummer man, I absolutely love shooting with my 28
Hey man - question: Do you use a UV filter one your Leica lenses? I know a lot of people do but not sure if it's necessary or not.... whats your thoughts and do you?
I don't. I think it's great to protect a lens if you'd like. Don't really see a pro or con!
Joining the Leica 28 gang soon let's gooooo!!!
Yeah you are 😏
Great. Now I’m even more confused if should get a 35 or a 28. 😅 Lovely the images. Full of emotions ❤
Haha both wonderful focal lengths. Just comes down to what you want the lens for!
I shoot a 28mm 2.8 on my AE 1 one and I yet have to change to another lens. Its perfect for run and gun. and the pictures shot with it are my favourites by far.
that's rad!
I use 35-50-28.It depends on the situation. My favourite focal length is 35mm.It is not perfect for anything, but it is an all around focal length can do everything.
It’s a good one!
Leica q original such a lovely focal length
gotta love 28!
You can portray a person by strictly focusing on him/her. Or you can portray someone by giving the contest in which he/she lives, which brings so much more about your subject. I fell in love with 28 when Leica released the first 28 Summicron: stunning lens, lightweight, fast, sharp. I bought an M6 0.58 for it and they are permanently together. Hyper focal focusing makes it faster than an AF lens. Enjoy
thanks for the insight!
I love shooting with 28mm on film and I enjoyed it while I owned a Q2M, but on digital 28mm to me looks like an iPhone photo. When I shoot digital it's almost always 35/50.
That's super interesting. I love the 28mm for film, and honestly would love to shoot it more for digital too!
Hi Gene!! The photo with your daughters eating spaghetti... is that with the 28 elmarit?
yes it is!
where did you get that neck strap from?
It's from Clever Supply Co!
You can use the code: YOON for 10% off!
28mm for the win. Anyone wanting an affordable way to shoot it... Fuji X70. It's amazing for the price point.
28 forever! And sick camera
28 Leica gang baby
The absolute best!
Thanks for the video.
For my taste, my general subjects, and my shooting style, the 28 is too wide and the 50 is too tight.
I love the 35.
I shoot my Leica M6 with the following lenses:
90mm f/2 Leitz
35mm f/1.4 Zeiss
21mm f/1.4 Leitz
That's a killer line up right there
28mm is great however I do prefer my 21mm more on my Leica M7.
Definitely want the 21 in my arsenal some day!
yupppp .... 28mm is where it's at 🔥 travel, street, enviro, creative portraits, BTS...it works for it all.
and I 'm still rocking the 28mm Voitlander Ultron v1 ... so sharp and lightweight. Nice little shout there, thanks! :p (one day Ill get some Leica glass!)
FACTS! 28 > everything. Dude it's such an underrated lens. I've loved it for 1.5 years, just felt it was time to put some leica glass on the body but still love that Voit!
I shoot 28 but I recently got a 21 and I'm having a lot of with it
21 is the next focal length I want to get!
It definitely takes time to get used to
Honestly I've struggled to get used to wider focal lengths after getting used to the 50mm on my camera - definitely re-inspiring me to see what's possible with the 28mm lens I've got!
heck yeah let's go!
The best lenses I use all the times are the 35 MM Lens and the 50MM lens
Heck yeah thats a killer combo
What length is your strap?
I can't remember the exact length but it's the short neck strap from Clever Supply!
S/o my boy Nolis
he's the GOAT
Best lens for everyone? I prefer the 2.0 50mm apo!
Nice one!
i thought you were gonna say between medium format or 35
Actually made that video! Love both mediums for different purposes
@@geneyoon11 i was just curious as to why the same focal length would be your favorite on both lol. loved the vid.
Hi Gene. It’s great you’ve found a lens you love. I do think some of the images if you had gone a bit closer would show more dynamism and impact. Wide angle lens without a foreground element usually create “flat” images because of the depth of field. Though from the images it seems your intention was to record a moment. Theres a balance between too close and close. Too close and you get warped / distorted perspective when its a human subject. Thank you Gene
Great observation!
28mm gang 🤙🏼
Yessir!
28mm on the M sucks when wearing glasses unless you have that rare Leica M6 with the 0.58 viewfinder magnification.
hahaha true true that is a downside for sure
Love the Voigtlander 28/2 Ultron II on my digital M...
Such a great lens!
Too poor for Leica, I use a 14mm (28mm equiv) on an Olympus. Perfect travel focal length especially when you also have a 40mm equiv with you - perfect tandem. On m43 they’re both pancakes so super nice for travel.
ayyy that's a sick combo
28 gang, let's gooo
the best
28mm all day everyday
Let’s gooooo!
The best lens, camera, tripod etc is always the one you can easily afford. There is more to photography than amassing expensive gear. And I am an old Leica user, film and digital.
can't argue with you on that!
28mm gang 😌😬😂
hahaha my #1 supporter
Why would anyone in their right mind invest in a film Leica?; farts are more practical for taking photos than film rangefinders.
dang you're not wrong
old news
dang
