GI Joe for me is a top 10 NES game. I love all the different characters, the settings, the different weapons, the level design is great, and it's an awesome representation of the source material. I also like it better than the Capcom game too, I never thought I'd say that about anything
It's interesting though hot the Capcom game does feel like a sequel to teh Taxan version. I think they must have been amde by the same devs and just hcanged publishers. I afree that the first one is the better of the two though.
I love the variety. I didn't showcase how each level might be a typical stage or a 'plant the bombs in this room' and more. I still never beat this game, too.
Low G man was my favorite. The music is about as good as it gets that era. I was so irritated when i found out after beating it once, that i still had to beat it 2 more times to actually finish the game.
I'm pretty sure low g man was a bargain bin purchase as a kid, but I loved it. I beat it once through but i didn't remember it not being finished 😂 typical NES
As the author of a large NES game endings guide on Gamefaqs, Taxan games have a special place in my heart for having multiple quests and several endings. 8-Eyes, Low G Man, Burai Fighter, GI Joe and even Mystery Quest all reward you with a special ending when beating all the quests. Love them all! Great reviews John, always looking forward to your next video.
Snake Eyes is the Wolverine of GI Joe. I was surprised to see that I own all oc these. Taxan isn't a company that I just automatically considered to be high quality, but seeing them all in one lump, they were better than I'd realized. Good stuff.
I recently ranked every JALECO game for NES here ruclips.net/video/l9NF3wdKv0g/видео.html Consider supporting via Patreon for inside blogs, video ideas, AMAs and more www.patreon.com/johnblueriggs
I love these videos John esp for NES. Its rare for people to have as much game knowledge as you and its incredibly interesting to hear how you rank these games. Please keep these videos coming!
I love this channel, I came to it following Metal Jesus Rocks and I would love to see a series like this but from super nintendo, there are so many games that I never heard of.
I think it's super weird that the SNES gets very little respect on RUclips, despite being considered by the most people to be the best retro console. Hell, I think there's more master system content than SNES stuff around.
I’m totally down with you on MappyLand. I have no nostalgia for it as I neither owned nor played it as a kid and I also expected a kids game with the coloring-book graphics, but it’s super fun, has a reasonable challenge that ramps up nicely, and that soundtrack gets stuck in your head. I sometimes find myself whistling Stage 3’s theme, and have for years since discovering this one.
Awesome that we had similar experiences with Fist. I was thinking about the time I rented it from Blockbuster, had no idea what was going on. It was rough. Later in the mid nineties I saw the movie and it made sense. So I rented it again!! And it was still rough and returned it the same night and asked them to let me swap it.
Been waiting for this! I love Low G Man. Got it randomly at a drug store as a kid early 90s and had never played or seen anything like it. No one I know has ever heard of it. Loved the yellow label on the cart.
The amount of time I spent playing 8 Eyes with one of my good friends was quite ridiculous we probably beat it 10 plus times over and over just switching out one would be the warrior the other would be the eagle. Also, Burai Fighter was like having a lesser version of Forgotten Worlds at home. Loved it.
Will you ever do a one hit wonder episode? An episode where you look at publishers that only released one or two games? I sorted my whole nes classic library by publisher and there are quite a few publishers like that.
Yup the Taxan GI Joe game came out in January of 1991 while the Capcom game was released the following year. Right there with you on the Taxan game though, I have more nostalgia for it than the Capcom one. I still enjoy it to this day and love playing as Captain Grid-Iron and Snake Eyes.
it has taken me months, but I finally subscribed! For the most part, I only watch you, Game Sack, and Sega Lord X. Thank you for the great content, and it's good to see you're from the PNW (we just recently moved back to Illinois from Puyallup).
Ive actually been watching these videos hoping to see a title I rented a couple of times as a kid but couldn't for the life of me remember the title of the game or the company that made it. That game was mystery quest. Search complete. But I've watched so many of these videos in my quest to find the game I've come to really enjoy them so I'm definitely going to watch this entire series.
I’m an OG Castlevania fan, I remember anticipating CastleVania 2 and this filled the gap for me between CV2 and CV3. 8 Eyes looked great, but it just felt a lot harder than it needed to be. This was a rental for me, but even back then it felt like a complete rip off of CV, and I was completely fine with that. I would put it as a C for me. The thing I remember the most about GIJoe was all the vehicles. It felt so ahead of its time. Also like the arcade, it followed the toy line which I could appreciate at the time since I was probably still playing with them.
Burai Fighter, Low G Man, Kick Master, Isolated Warrior, GI Joe, Banana Prince had all the same developer (K.I.D.). That is why most of these game have the same love behind them when created. The publishers may vary, Taxan or Vapp in these mentioned games.
I loved 8 eyes as a kid, but had totally forgotten it's name since! I didn't remember being able to control the hawk with the 2nd controller either. Taxan was a publisher I otherwise didn't even know about. I don't think any of the other games I ever played.
All these ranking and review vids take me back to the good old days. If you could take a time machine backwards to a particular year in your gaming past to relive the best moments you experienced what would it be?
The final boss fight in Burai Fighter is one the most intense boss fight I've ever experienced. Especially on the hardest difficulty setting (Ultimate), In Low G Man it isn't mandatory to freeze your enemies with your gun. Actually if you beat enemies wthout freezing them you'll always receive an item.
Man, you've just about reviewed every NES third party publisher's games. I can only think of three that you haven't covered yet. FCI, Mindscape, and Infogrames. Looking forward to seeing them soon!
Thanks again for selling me your copy of Fist of the North Star at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo in 2017. You also sold me Street Cop. You gave me a good deal on both. Thanks :-)
Great episode as always. My brother and I had mappy land and mystery quest. Mappy land is excellent and mystery quest is so so. If didn't have it as a kid I dont think I'd like it .
Having grown up with the Atari 7800 and not the NES at our house (I did have some friends that had the NES, so I did play some games for it), I hadn’t played any of these games as a kid. I did pick up the Evercade tho, and one of the carts has 8-Eyes...it’s quite cool. I’d give it a “B” at least.
I have to say that you should have at least 7 videos a day, because they are all well done, laid back, and always interesting! I look forward to gaming cons so that I could get your autograph! Keep up the fantastic work - all the best to you and your family, and even Ron Jiggs!
Been subbed for awhile and your opinion is pretty right on about the games. Also I would have never guessed you are 6'5. I'm 6'3 and wear a size 15 or 16 so I'm sure you are right there too. Such a joy to shoe shop.
Loved that G I Joe game and it is better than the Atlantis Factor sequel. Got Low G Man for Christmas and was excited till I played it. Ended up playing Bigfoot more got it for Christmas same year.
I subscribed because of the way you parlayed the Fist of the North Star into asking for subs. For the longest time I thought that game was a hack and not an official release. It sure looked and played like one.
Yes!!!!!! These were games that only kiddie city had or obscure department stores. My local Kmart never had mappy only had like the latest ones and capcom stuff
Wow John, I got to disagree with you on Magician. It's one of those hidden gem games on the NES. My personal ranking is A. Well, to each his own! Keep up the great videos!
Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the Northstar had 2 action platformers. This one is actually the 2nd one. The rest were RPG style games. When they carried over to Super Famicom, they had a couple of fighters (I wanna say 6 & 7) and the previous ones were RPG style. Atahh!

Awwww 2 of my sweetest honey buns in one place
Please link the gi Joe game from capcom u said u did a video on
I agree, for me the first GiJoe is better than capcom's. But both are really great games.

"In so old I remember when Pluto was a member of the Galactic Membership of Planets." Pluto will always be a planet to me.
Some blame Pluto being relegated to Dwarf Planet due to it's size. I blame the existence of 'The Adventures of Pluto Nash'.
I'm so old that I still have a booklet of tickets from Disneyland. No there aren't any E tickets left.
Amen
Enter the 2 Skinnee Js “PLUTO!!!!! Its a planet”
Neptune is the greatest.
Nostalgia for Low-G Man right here! Used to rent it back in the 90's from the grocery store in a town of under 500!
That Jimmy"Super Fly"
Snuka, appearance was funny.
Hope he didn't murder a villager!
“This game’s really, really good. I’m giving it a C”. I wish my parents had that philosophy when it came to my report card.
🤣😂🤣😂
My cat loved the falcon in 8 Eyes. I’m not sure how he knew it was a bird, but he enjoyed it.
That's how you know the 8 bit graphics are good. Even your pet recognizes things. 😂
GI Joe and Low G Man are classics.

Jaleco backwards is Ocelaj
Magician is one of those games you pull up on RUclips and type "Magician Speed Run" just to see the conclusion.
Yeah, for some games it's best to grab the popcorn and let Arcus do the dirty work
Low G man is one of my favorite NES games. So underrated and often forgotten.
I love these videos John esp for NES. Its rare for people to have as much game knowledge as you and its incredibly interesting to hear how you rank these games. Please keep these videos coming!
Thanks for the content, Riggs!!
Any time!
I loved Mappy Land!! I used to rent this all the time as a kid
I love this channel, I came to it following Metal Jesus Rocks and I would love to see a series like this but from super nintendo, there are so many games that I never heard of.

The thing with Low G Man is the framerate of the game, it looks like it's on a PAL refresh rate or something and that makes the gameplay kinda weird.
As long as you keep making videos, I'll keep watching them, subscribed since day one! Love the format of your rankings videos, keep em coming.
Awesome that we had similar experiences with Fist. I was thinking about the time I rented it from Blockbuster, had no idea what was going on. It was rough. 1:26 One measure of the greatness of a game is how satisfying it is to use pencil and paper along the way.
Truth
That GI Joe game is definitely a hidden gem.
Been waiting for this! I love Low G Man. Got it randomly at a drug store as a kid early 90s and had never played or seen anything like it. No one I know has ever heard of it. Loved the yellow label on the cart.

You should do a developer tier list.
I thought about it.
@@JohnRiggs Once you've covered every NES publisher you want to, arrange them according to your rankings and present it to us with a video!
You nailed it with Mappy Land. It's a childhood game for me, and going back to it I found it's still fantastic.
Hey! Some love for 8 Eyes! Awesome! Thank you for recognizing! I loved that, Burai Fighter, Low-G Man and the GIJoe game too.
¡Muchas gracias por presentar estos vídeos!
Will you ever do a one hit wonder episode? An episode where you look at publishers that only released one or two games? I sorted my whole nes classic library by publisher and there are quite a few publishers like that.
John 'You have to really want to play this game' Riggs ^^
Thanks Riggs!!! Couldnt wait for Taxan! Love GI Joe!!!
I'm loving these videos and I think I've watched all of them now. Please keep them coming, thanks!
Love Burai Fighter! I was introduced to the series from the Game Boy Color port and loved it to bits

Thanks for the content Mister Riggs.
Lol I was just thinking Sgt. Slaughter and then you said it. One of the reasons I trust your reviews, we like similar games
I love mappy land. Its in my top 20 nes games. I love the music.

My mother-in-law is so old she was a waitress at the Last Supper!
Been subbed .. Great channel... thumbs up every time my man..!!!
Burai Fighter, Low G Man, Kick Master, Isolated Warrior, GI Joe, Banana Prince had all the same developer (K.I.D.). That is why most of these game have the same love behind them when created. The publishers may vary, Taxan or Vapp in these mentioned games.
8 Eyes:
You could've called this game,
Bird vs Camel!
And no one would have argued with you
Would love for you to release a video of all the S games when you've gone through all the publishers.
This is good idea.
Gi joe is the only reason why I waited for this video. I can't enough of it
I loved 8 eyes as a kid, but had totally forgotten it's name since! I didn't remember being able to control the hawk with the 2nd controller either.
Taxan was a publisher I otherwise didn't even know about. I don't think any of the other games I ever played.
It is crazy to think that I am almost 40 and have any heard or played any of these games. Goes to show how massive NES library truly is..
All these ranking and review vids take me back to the good old days. If you could take a time machine backwards to a particular year in your gaming past to relive the best moments you experienced what would it be?
Another great ranking video!
8 Eyes is a criminally underrated game.
Completely agree about Mappyland being great. That and Circus Caper are very addictive games.
Good stuff as always Riggs.
I had 2 of these games and loved them. 8 eyes and low g man
Another great video Mr Riggs....keep it up. G-Man will be something I look up now.
I love these videos i look forward to them every week. Thanks for making them
The final boss fight in Burai Fighter is one the most intense boss fight I've ever experienced. Especially on the hardest difficulty setting (Ultimate),
In Low G Man it isn't mandatory to freeze your enemies with your gun.
Actually if you beat enemies wthout freezing them you'll always receive an item.
My brother and I always said it was called 8 Eyes because that’s how many eyes were looking at the screen when the two of us played.
Being the falcon, making this an early couch coop
Awesome video, Mappy Land is awesome and the music too, at the haunted house, you can go into the house and it will play the mappy theme.
Omg … Low G Man… that just unlocked some deeeeeep memories. I loved that game
Thanks :-)
I should be thanking YOU for taking those off my hands :) Here's hoping PRGE 2021 happens later this year.
Oh man, I remember Magician. I rented it back in the day and basically just starved to death over and over in the game.
Snuka was walking pretty fast in Magician. He must've been leaving the hotel...😳🙈🙉🙊
Great episode as always. My brother and I had mappy land and mystery quest. Mappy land is excellent and mystery quest is so so. If didn't have it as a kid I dont think I'd like it .
Low G Man!??!?! Wow bro, I played that game so much but I totally forgot about it until now. Once again, thx for bringing the memories back
Never heard of this developer. Mappy Adventures looks great expanding on the arcade game.

Not enough people talk about Burai Fighter, I always loved it as a kid even though I could never get very far in it. Great music too.
Lmao when you were talking about Magician and asked if that was Jimmy Snuka!
I loved low G man and have no idea what could be missing on the nes at least, I liked it just as much as journey to Silius!
8 Eyes has my all-time favorite cover art for a NES game.
Been subbed for awhile and your opinion is pretty right on about the games. Also I would have never guessed you are 6'5. I'm 6'3 and wear a size 15 or 16 so I'm sure you are right there too. Such a joy to shoe shop.
My best friend and I would play 2player 8eyes. I always loved playing as Cutris the falcon.
Music in 8-eyes is pretty good. The weapon level up system in GIJoe is pretty fun.
Awesome! Thanks John.
Loved that G I Joe game and it is better than the Atlantis Factor sequel. Got Low G Man for Christmas and was excited till I played it. Ended up playing Bigfoot more got it for Christmas same year.
Thanks John!
Ahhh, Mappyland. I remember renting that one once and loved it. I've been looking for a copy for years, but haven't found one in the wild yet.
I just picked that up at a local vintage gaming store. Im excited to play it now!
Loved 8 eyes - couldn’t get far but had a fun time with it
BTW - Mappy Land is on the Namco Museum Archives Collection #2 for the Switch!
(And Star Soldier is on the Switch Online service in the NES games.)
I subscribed after seeing the A for 8 Eyes. Solid title.
Stopping in to drop a like and make sure the video is in my saved to watch after work 😀
Thanks for this one! Glad to see the praise for GI Joe. Hope American Sammy is coming up!
I agree with you on Star Soldier. Good game but not amazing compared to every other game in the series. To me the best one is Soldier Blade by a lot.
As usual I just learned about a bunch of new games from a company I've never heard of or seen games from.
That's never a bad thing.
Mystery quest !
I could never remember the name of this game, my brother owned it when I was a kid.
It was definitely a challenge.
I subscribed because of the way you parlayed the Fist of the North Star into asking for subs. For the longest time I thought that game was a hack and not an official release. It sure looked and played like one.
Mappy and Mappy Land are two superb games that do not receive all the luv and respect they deserve
Yes!!!!!! These were games that only kiddie city had or obscure department stores. My local Kmart never had mappy only had like the latest ones and capcom stuff
great video bro,, im definitely subbed bro
Wow John, I got to disagree with you on Magician. It's one of those hidden gem games on the NES. My personal ranking is A. Well, to each his own! Keep up the great videos!
There is a hack of 8 Eyes that turns it into a Castlevania game, with the whips items etc...Very fun!
I love the ranking series. I've watched them all...and yes I'm subscribed! 😂😂
Every time you post, I watch and then go to my emulator and try some of these games.
Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the Northstar had 2 action platformers. This one is actually the 2nd one.
The rest were RPG style games. When they carried over to Super Famicom, they had a couple of fighters (I wanna say 6 & 7) and the previous ones were RPG style. Atahh!
You're old enough to have served wine at the Last Supper. So am I.
