    I love that DC-9 Sound. Reminds me of my first Trips to the USA with Northwest Airlines.

    Flew on these a lot when I was in the Navy. It had it's ups and downs for sure

    Ive always wondered what that sound is in the background sounding like an alarm during engine start o n all DC9s

      It's the igniters starting the engines. They are like a huge spark plug. The pilot turns them on to ignite the fuel. They turn off when the engine starts unlike a spark plug.

      @@gregorygardner4431 Yup Igniters somehow PA picks up the sound of the current! Pilots can and do turn "continuous ignition" on flying thru certain weather conditions
      rain/snow/ice etc.otherwise it is off after engine start.

      Continuous ignition is turned on during landed too.

      Looks like the DC-9 ceased flying in North America in 2014, if i recall correctly. Looks like MD-88s are left behind for use for the time being until their eventual retirement.
