Dad said the 1st DC-9 was like the airline fighter. He was a fighter pilot in the Air Force and Tennessee Air National Guard and started Flying for Delta in 1956. Capt. Loyd Freeman was my dad and pilot extraordinaire. I followed in dad’s footsteps and flew fighters and just retired from American. Miss my dad.
Thank you for the video! I was originally a Northwest Airlines Costumer before the financial crisis. My main airport was/still is Detroit Metropolitan International Airport. A lot of good memories from that time. Once Delta took over, they got Northwest’s planes and revamped the terminal. I’m proud to say I’ve been a loyal costumer to both airlines!
This was one of the most odd situations where Delta retired their fleet in 1993 but then because of the Northwest merger, reacquired the plane in 2008 - 15 years later (and older). It took Delta another 6 years to get rid of it again before the former CEO of Northwest became CEO of Delta Air Lines in 2016.
Really? I looked on their website and no McD aircraft are left - just Airbus and Boeing (majority) and some Bombardier and Embraer aircraft. www.delta.com/us/en/aircraft/overview
@@erik_griswold Okay, but technically it is not exactly the same plane. The MD-88 was the sequel to the DC-9 which Delta flew until this year. The 717 while based on the DC-9 was a shorter body and is quite small compared to the DC-9 seating even less than that plane did. It is very loosely based on that old aircraft and really shares very little in its design with the DC-9 from two generations previous.
I thought it's just gonna be straight 1965-2014 but nice video tho, the DC-9 is a loud legend for me P.S. for a second I thought the 1973 and 1975 pic were the same xD
0:08 The Vertical Stabilizer of N3304L is actually preserved at the Delta Flight Museum in Atlanta Georgia along with DC-9-50 N675MC
I absolutely loved Delta's DC9 fleet
It seems that Delta can make any extremely old plane look new
The DC-9's launch customer. Their old Widget livery is very attractive!
