    I've used hundreds of similar type anchors on the job and actually thought about doing this before I found your video. Glad you went for it. Now I need to go and find the right sizes! Thanks.

    I am thinking to replace the bearings in the rear hub and have no idea how to pull the old bear out. This video is very helpful, thanks!

    The design of that particular anchor seems far better suited for pulling bearings because of the vertical rails on the shaft/head compared to the more generic sleeves carried at Ace or other places. I have looked around, even tried to search with the number on the top but no luck. I tried using a less robust anchor and it slipped/deformed. Do you know who manufactured yours? Maybe I can order one online. The avergae bke puller (if in stock) runs $40! Danke.

    This is just brilliant--big thanks to you! Do you know if a 1/2" concrete sleeve anchor would be wide enough to remove for the lower bearing on a RockShox Monarch rear shock? I can't tell what size the one you have is. Thanks in advance if you know, and even if you don't!

      Joshua, can you give more details, like What kind of bike do you have?
      Also, is there an actual bearing or is it a bushing/sleeve? My guess is that the 1/2” will be too big. But if it is a bearing and you know what size it is then you can figure out what anchor you need by the internal dimension of the bearing.

      Thanks so much for the quick reply--you rock! Speaking of rock, I'm trying to install a RockShox Monarch RL rear shock on my Giant Stance 2 to replace its stock Suntour suspension because it doesn't have a lockout. Apparently I need to remove the lower bearing or bushing sleeve to get it on my bike; I feel ignorant that I don't know which it's called.

    Could you please post a link to the brand & model concrete fastener you used in your bearing puller hack. I have searched images online and was unable to find one like the you used. It seems to be somewhat unique. My application is for caster, fork & hub bearings on a wheelchair. Thanks for the video

      Peter, sorry for not responding sooner - I've been on vacation. This would be classified as a "concrete sleeve anchor" and I imagine if you go to your local construction store (Home Depot or Lowes in the USA) they would be able to show you a comparable option. Since so many of the viewers are from around the world a specific brand or even link would not be all that applicable. Good Luck

    Great idea. Would this work on the rear Specialized HiLo drive side bearing? Do you just by the fixing bolt that matches your internal diameter?
    Great videos btw. I’m a basic/ mid level home mechanic and you’re videos are really easy to follow. Keep them up!

      Graeme Kennedy - yes, this idea will work on pretty much any “hidden” bearing. After getting stuck on my Hi-Lo Hub I decided to remedy that by making one of these. Will also work on suspension bearings.

    Does this method damage the bearing?

    • @AverageGuyBicycleMechanic
      @AverageGuyBicycleMechanic  2 года назад

      Not anymore than other removal methods. Anytime you remove a bearing your putting force on it that the bearing was not designed to take.

    The idea of a blind bearing puller its actually to pull the bearing not to hold it and hit from the other side !

    • @AverageGuyBicycleMechanic
      @AverageGuyBicycleMechanic  2 года назад

      The idea is to be able to remove a bearing that cannot be knocked out from the backside. In terms of the physics and forces applied to the bearing it’s exactly the same. Albeit, some bearings cannot be accessed from the backside which would make this idea impossible.

      @@AverageGuyBicycleMechanic No no no mate blind means that you cant extract it with the normal puller not that you cant hit from the other side! Also, no impact force is way different from constant pressure, especially with carbon fiber! Hitting a bearing or a bottom bracket cup that is pressed into a carbon frame is a totally wrong application for the material! Duable yes correct absolutely not! So the only option is pressurising constantly from inside in order to be able to pull it out!Thats what I am saying ! Anyway have a nice day !

      That is an excellent observation. I apologize if I misled you. Inherently, every “Do It Yourself” project will have materials or ingredients that must be purchased somewhere. The point is, that you can use a common anchor that is easily found in any hardware store, for cheap, to remove a hidden bearing with zero modifications to the anchor. I wish you well on your project. There is nothing as satisfying as doing your own wrenching.
