How to Fix Your Hormones and Lose Weight

  • I’ve discussed different reasons for weight-loss resistance in past blogs. Many obstacles have nothing to do with what you eat or how much you exercise. Instead, they involve things like nutritional imbalances, chronic inflammation, metabolic challenges, leaky gut, changes in your microbiome, environmental toxins and your genes.

Yea, he makes things crystal clear! Thank God there are people like him in the world that actually care!
Here is my hope: Dr Berg and other doctors on You Tube are a part of it. With the internet we are seeing the beginning of a transformation in medical awareness. We are learning that the mind and body have a built in intelligence that can heal most anything. With this new understanding it becomes clear that the medical establishment AMA does not really care about their fellow humans, beyond making a profit. People will be gain to notice this value system, or line of thinking elsewhere. It will eventually become evident that it is this same thinking that has polluted government and the banking system. People will understand that the same value structure currently dominating medical care is everywhere. At some point people will began to phase out the old thinking for a new paradigm of communication and interaction - leaving the profit over people mentality behind in the dust. A world filled with much more caring compassion and love will morph from the ashes of the world of today! It is an exciting time!

Congratulations Becky! I had open heart surgery at 42, and the doctors told me I only had 5 years to live. That was 19 years ago, and I credit my bio-identical hormones and a variety of supplements for saving my life! And, my doctors have been amazed by the results. Take care, and don’t let people scare you. Bio-identical hormones don’t cause cancer like the fake synthetic ones do. Unfortunately, what gets reported are studies done with synthetic hormones which are so dangerous. My bio hormone doctor has been practicing for years, and he’s treated hundreds of women with success. 😊

@@Zhivaya_dusha_duh_razum Thanks for responding. I am taking an american product with good reputation called "Iodoral" 12,5mg, do you know it? A self trained healer here in Germany recomennded it to me because she herself healed her hypothyroitism and more with that product by taking it daily. I took it also daily for a month, but after doing some reasearch I found out that it might not be safe to take more than 1mg a day (even that is considered a very very high unnatural dosage here in Germany) so I started to take only half of a 12,5mg tablette a week, so thats about 6,25mg weekly. Know I read that it is better to take Iodine daily instead of weekly, but because the Iodoral product is not dividable more than into half, I will have to try a product I can take daily, maybe I will try that lugolsche Liquid thing

From my extensive research i have also learnt that GMO foods with high pesticide residue also causes estrogen mimicking. All those women with PSOD, Pmt, Fibroids, endometriosis trouble conceiving and have checked they don't blocked tubes. Its high Estrogen or Estrogen dominance. It took me a long time to work this out. And i feel totally pissed that i have been slowly poisoned by what i thought were good nutritional choices. But now i am dairy, meat and GMO free (special occasions or when i eat out i am not so restrictive) and I conceived naturally and without problem at 44. Make the switch to plant based whole foods .It not only makes you healthy but reverses most of the top five killers and age related diseases. I know, Ive had my head in pubmed and longevity trials for ages now and all the cutting edge science says the same. Functional medicime should be part of medical school. I hope it one day is.

This helped me so much. I tried a raw fruit & veg diet, and didn't loose weight, in fact I think I gained a few lbs from too much sugar from high carb fruits. My eyes got blurry after eating fruit sometimes or feeling like passing out into deep sleep after a meal - even though I'm not a diabetic (yet). I was eating a lot of RAW kale and no-iodine salt too. I have severe gluten allergies, and altho I had my thyroid checked, I have so many thyroid symptoms regarding fatigue and obesity. So many, many of the things covered here explained 'why' I'm having so much trouble getting the weight off. I tried the Keto diet for a while, but eating fat+meat did not seem healthy or fun. But my sugar cravings were psychotic. I know that candida and parasites can drive us insane if we don't eat enough sugar/carbs to feed them. So it occured to me, I need to check with Dr. Hyman who used to be vegan too - and changed to keto himself. Maybe I'm getting too much hidden sugars in so-called healthy vegan foods like fruit, cruciferous veg's, and wheat/gluten. I'm going to try this diet for the next 2-4 weeks, and see if my body responds better. Thanks Dr. Hyman, I've been a fan of yours for decades.

If it’s any consolation, I have a son who has had brain traumas, is an addict, has stolen or wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars from us, and has a file of doctors’ diagnoses and emergency visits a mile long! I also have ton of autoimmune diseases as well, but a LOT of my symptoms went away after I had breast implants removed. I’m still in chronic pain, but it’s a spine deformity that I never realized was causing it.
Anyway, I sincerely hope you’re doing at least a little better.
      Sincerely, Kathy 🙏💕

It took 46 years to realize gluten was the cause of my horrendous monthly stomach aches and regular constipation, and it will be 3 years in November since switching to a high fat/low carb and NO gluten diet, and I have had NO stomach aches since that time. I've always been on the thinner side, and didn't do it for weight loss, but my belly is gone! I'm 5'5" and 115 lbs. However, I had noticed that tension headaches (which are the only kind of headache I get) and usually only occurred during my period, were increasing. An ice pack and/or a neck massage are the only things that help, or Naproxen if neither are available. I pretty much had a headache EVERY SINGLE DAY for almost a year. Six months into it, my doctor said too much thyroid medication could also cause headaches, not just sex hormones. I was taking 180 mg of Armour Thyroid. My TSH was at zero, and from a podcast by Chris Kresser, I knew that his recommended functional range was 0.5 to 2.5, so I've been decreasing my Armour to now taking only 45 mg. a day, and the headaches have gotten much better. The last blood test showed my TSH finally reading 0.2, (that's when we dropped the dose to 45 mg.) with T3 at a decent level of 3, and T4 at 0.5. I still get a mild headache when I take my tiny divided dose of 30 mg, so when I take my next blood test, I may have to lower it even more. The POINT of this story is....It must have been the gluten all along that was affecting my thyroid, and your saying that made me realize it!

    - MY Doctor and an endocrinologist I managed to see for quick advice without a Drs referral (as they need here in Australia!!) Said oestrogen / Testosterone levels DON'T affect metabolism; but plenty of evidence says that it DOES!
My levels are LOW (Right on bottom line of the 'recommended' levels) OR UNDER; but NOW over here, they say we need 2 consecutive readings UNDER 6 Before we can get testosterone treatment!! SO I'm seemingly STUCK with obesity that very little is helping to shift - But I AM now using apple cider vinegar etc and after just DAYS I already feel massively more healthy!! :)

P.S. I love what you said about relaxation. Ive found it really is all about intention. With everything. If we're intentional in our thoughts, our actions, our eating, our exercise, our work, our relationships, things get balanced out.

Hi Dr. Hyman, love everything you said about the 3 main reasons for getting the right results, from looking at all of them to see what it may stem from? I'm in that process of elimination right now and I must say it's hard to get my doctors to test the right way, plus my energy and focus is short so I am trying to be patient with my doctors while not having enough stamina to cope with their lack of support or knowledge -unfortunately. These days in which we are in, you really need to do all of your own advocating to the doctors now that there is more distance between patient and doctor relations, since covid has put an even bigger divide there. I am about to have a salvia test- and at first my doctor put in for a urine test then switched it to salvia instead -at my request, is that more accurate in testing cortisol level? I would love to hear your view on that. Thank you for being so helpful and hopeful. I really need that right now; I am 57 and extremely overweight at 5'1 by 120pds over ideal weight for my height. On top of being in post menopause too. Thank God for HRT it has giving me some life back I was a zombie in April now I'm fighting to regain my life back. Would Love to hear from you, be blessed always.

After my ovarian cancer operations, my body started to sort of fall apart... and I tried everything, I could think off... then luckily I found Maca and a teaspoon in warm water every morning, did fix it... others might also find relief from hormonal problems, that way!

Sadly I cannot eat much fiber currently it causes me to be constipted. If I eat any fiber I must take 5htp to go to restroom the more fiber I eat the worst I get. Psyllium gave me horrible tachycardia but think was more that it completely constipated me for days and I was already bad off before.
Carnivore diet I can poop regularly but idk what carnivore will do for my hormones long term . But Idk what supplements and medication to poop will do long term eather . Especially when done days they help me go at other times it could be a week plus before I have an ok bowel movement
Idk I don’t really like meat much having colonoscopy next month hopefully I get some answers

I know someone that use to be slim and they had an ovarian cyst removed with the fallopian tube and had rapid weight gain. Is that part of sex hormones. Their thyroid was still normal. They must have too much estrogen.

So I have hypothyroitism since I am 14. Also I life in southgermany near the alps where the soil is depleted of iodine and selenium, as a vegan I dont eat fish or anything. Do you think its okay to take 1g of iodine per day with 200micrograms of selenium and 25mg of zinc additionally to my thyroid medication L-Thyroxine 150 microgram? I asked my doctor about it but they dont know anything about those things here and they are against supplementation. Thank you.

I’m surprised that you don’t mention caffeine, which so many people are addicted to. That will keep your fight-or-flight response in high gear which increases cortisol and adrenaline.

    • @heidivernathorbjornsen475
      @heidivernathorbjornsen475 5 лет назад

SM MA -Dear you might have Cushing’s Syndrome or Disease- I have had this - it’s not always low thyroid that causes weight gain or diet - especially if you are eating a good Whole Foods diet with little refined carbs or simple sugars-no refined commercial oils. . You could also have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome -I hope you find out what is going on & you heal. Another thing to check is your insulin levels.

Years ago I used MaxWLX that helped to balance the Leptin hormone. I found I lost excess weight easily and my 'hot flashes' stopped while taking that product. My step-son was underweight, and had struggled to put pounds on for years, it was the answer for him as well. Sadly it is no longer available, we miss it.
