For anyone curious, I believe this film is based on Priscilla's own memoir, and she approves of this movie. I'm sure at least a few people are wondering if this sort of biopic is still ethical, but this one at least is.
YOU UNEDUCATED MAROON. THE SAME regurgitated nonsense From her 1985 book of lies elvis & me that she could not back up. Many pieces just don't fit the timeline, are largely exaggerated. I read the book. Complete fictional account of herself, her family and Elvis Presley. We have learned MUCH MORE about her since. Naturally, none of THAT will be in this movie.

PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 1. Priscilla met Elvis AFTER she had intercourse with Elvis' friend, Currie Grant. At that moment she was not a virgin anymore. When Elvis was back in the States, Priscilla had several boyfriends and slept with them. Priscilla was very flirtatious. It is rumored that she was sexually abused by her violent alcoholic stepfather Paul Beaulieu. Priscilla let Elvis believe that she was an innocent virgin but in reality, she was a liar and a manipulator, who was addicted to attention because she always was her mother's little princess.
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 2. Priscilla's parents encouraged her relationship with Elvis because they were starstruck and wanted status and money. When Elvis was back in the States they discouraged Priscilla from dating with boys in Germany. Her mother, Ann Iversen, pushed Priscilla to write love letters to Elvis, who occasionally called Priscilla and was back with girlfriend Anita Wood. It was Priscilla, ordered by Ann, who begged Elvis to invite her to the US and it was her parents who forced Priscilla to move to Graceland although she wanted to stay in Germany with her then-boyfriend.
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 3. She was not in love with Elvis Presley, but with her boyfriend Jamie. While at Graceland, Priscilla's only goal was to get married to Elvis and then divorce him and take him out like a goose for her own financial benefit and that of her parents. It was no coincidence that Priscilla was sent to the US. months before her 18th birthday, months before her graduation from high school and months before the Beaulieu-family returned to the States. By sending their daughter away to live with Elvis before her 18th birthday the Beaulieus had the means to blackmail Elvis.
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 4. Elvis was constantly asked by the Beaulieu-family when he was going to marry Priscilla as he had promised when Priscilla came to Graceland. Elvis was eventually blackmailed into marrying Priscilla by Priscilla's father Paul Beaulieu and Tom Parker.
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 5. As soon as Priscilla and Elvis were married, their relationship deteriorated because Priscilla stopped being the demure innocent woman she played before the wedding and became demanding and critical of everything Elvis did. Soon after Lisa Marie was born Priscilla started cheating on Elvis, first with a dance teacher and later with a karate instructor. Elvis realized that Priscilla didn't love him and probably never had.
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 6. After the divorce, Priscilla and Lisa Marie lived in a house that exposed not a single photo of Elvis Presley, the man, Priscilla claims, is the love of her life. Elvis certainly didn't believe her. In her book Elvis and Me, Priscilla seems to depict herself as the innocent victim of a bad man, Elvis Presley, but in reality, it is the other way around. Saw the movie, it was so so so deeply meaningful to see this story being told with such a spotlight as someone who lived a similar experience at 14. We constantly hear stories and see headlines of these rock stars/adult men in music pursuing young teenage girls, and their stories are never told, their names never heard, their feelings never talked about. Thank you for making this.

Priscilla is an incredible sophisticated film expertly directed by the very talented Sofia Coppola. The cinematography is amazing and the viewer is provided with so many beautiful scenes. The film is an intimate look into the relationship between the worlds most iconic singer Elvis and his wife Priscilla. It's like the viewer is in between each sentence that is uttered from the couple. You really feel like your right there experiencing exactly how the relationship was going. Jacob Elordi who plays Elvis does very well in showing both his flaws and his nice qualities. Cailee Spaeny who plays Priscilla is exceptional. She has an incredible presence and throughout the film has many moments where her beautiful face expresses clearly what she feels with no dialogue at all. UNMISSABLE.
The tone shift when he said "what do you mean, you don't like it?", when he wanted her to change her hair was absolute perfection. Sofia always makes such incredible films, especially centered around the female perspective. I cannot wait .

Did you watch the trailer? Its 1,000% a glamorization. Some sad parts will happen end of Act 2. Biopics are boring af. Are we try to introduce Percilla to a new gen? I don't get the point of this movie.
Priscilla has had a very glamorous life. She's an actress, after all. I'm not suggesting that she's never suffered pain and loss, she definitely has. But she's fully ensconced in the Hollywood world. She's often come across as selfish and greedy, especially in the case of her daughter's estate. She took the estate and her granddaughter to court. For the last 40+ years, she's overseen the Elvis Presley estate and was the driving force behind saving it from bankruptcy in the beginning. For that, I'm grateful. But her greed is showing and the fact that the Estate didn't approve of this movie says a lot! They wouldn't allow Copola to use Elvis's music at all. This film is said to be very dark. Highlighting Elvis's temper could be its downfall, and Priscilla's last act, so-to-speak. We'll see.

Don't go watching this expecting the character of Elvis to look anything like him..we all knew about his moods but I think very few of us especially those who haven't read the book by Priscilla which this movie is based on...in fact at one point she looks as younger at the end as she did at the beginning..all in all if you love tragic love stories, this is one..and the Seperate ways lyrics drop in their conversation was a touch of genius.

This looks SO GOOD. The narrative decision to centre this on Priscilla's POV (I think it's based on her autobiography?) is a stroke of genius. I've never been much of an Elvis fan, but I'm finding myself genuinely excited to watch this one. I think in Coppola's hands the humanity of the characters (based on real people) will be far more nuanced & won't shy away from the darkness in the story. & these actors are absolutely nailing it from what I've seen.

The short story: Priscilla Presley was 21yrs old when she got married. Not 14 like so many think. 21. And she stated that she was a virgin on her wedding night. So zero sex beforehand. All verifiable facts.
The longer story: Elvis was not a pedophile. Priscilla was IN GERMANY and dating teens her age during her teen years there. Elvis was busy in the US making movies dating 20s somethings such as Anita Wood and Ann Margaret. There was NO TIME or LOGISTICS for "grooming" or sex with Priscilla. There was an OCEAN in the way!!
RECORDED FACT -- THERE WAS NO GROOMING!!! NO OPPORTUNITY FOR GROOMING. MOST IMPORTANTLY --- Priscilla stated that they had no SEX until at least 5 years after the age of consent (age of consent was 16 in Memphis and in most points in the United States in the 1960s)
Priscilla had sex with Elvis during her 21st year. So this was NOT outrageous like it is today with teens having BABIES at 14 years of age.
NO OPPORTUNITY AT ALL FOR PRISCILLA'S UNTRUE STORY to be true: Since AGE OF CONSENT in the United States was 16 years old in the 1960s, and Priscilla was IN GERMANY from the age of 14 through 17, Elvis didn't have a chance to even see her again until she was almost 18 and by then it was perfectly fine for them to have sex BUT HE DID NOT BECAUSE he was thousands of miles away making movies and dating adults.
They wouldn't have sex until after marriage when she was 21.. So it was IMPOSSIBLE for Elvis to have been a "pedo" or a groomer by today's standards or 1960s standards.

Mike Stone her affair partner was himself married and had a pregnant wife. This wasn’t in the movie. Last year, Priscilla went after her own granddaughter in court to contest the will of Lisa Marie after her passing. Priscilla has shown herself to be a ruthless person. This movie that she was the executive producer of is an example. She also demanded to be buried next to the love of her life (Elvis) in the settlement but she also decided to further bury Elvis with this film.
I read that Lisa Marie begged Sophia NOT to make this movie. Don’t forget these two families were briefly connected by marriage when Lisa Marie married Nicholas Cage (Coppola). Is it payback time?

I have read & watched the movie Elvis & Me (book written by Priscilla) several times. This so far seems nothing like those two items.
The book was made on false allegations and non proven facts about their relationship. Let me remind you Priscilla didn't write Elvis and me. Somebody else did and the author came forward and said to take it with a grain of salt because nothing was proven.

I’ve been waiting for this for so long! I loved Elvis, but it didn’t feel personal or show the dark side of Elvis, & it barely gave us a glimpse into Elvis & Priscilla’s relationship. Elvis & Me was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I was fascinated by their tumultuous love story. I watched it again after Elvis came out, & realized the film was outdated & needed to be redone. I can’t wait. What an exciting year for films!

The problem of coppola is that she took for granted an autopromotion book. She focused on the fact that Priscilla Presley would have been so young when she came to stay in Memphis (Elvis’ father’s house, not Graceland) ignoring that at the same age Elvis father was already married and Elvis himself was working, starting his artistic career and would very fast become the most famous star in the world. So where’s the big deal when someone at the same age is living in the neighborhood of her future husband ?
This story is telling exactly how young girl in love feels and how young adolescent man act when not faithful. Movie gives an echo of honesty and simplicity. I adored it was shot from Priscilla's perspective, filled with quietness, waiting, while he was living all noise and spectacle. In any moment I didn't see him being represented in any disrespectful manner, in all of his falls we see a human we can also empathize with. Watching this movie is as entering an enchanted fairytale, it has it's own pace, sort of calming effect, composed with heart wrenching and butterflies moments. Costumes were spectacular, identical to those on original photographs, acting, directing, sound, all of it. Him throwing her suitcase as an ultimatum and her crying on the floor and being sorry for expressing her needs and rights reminded me of some of those fragile and unrepairable but realistic moments. Woman for woman. Thank you Sofia and Priscilla for creating it. 🌹

Thumbs DOWN. After watching the movie, Collider's review gets to the gist of the problem here. "Instead of a flowing narrative, it’s a series of scenes, the worst and best parts of their 13-year relationship, and doesn’t come together well enough to feel like a complete story. This combined with the lack of Coppola’s vibrant, feminine, and electric aesthetic makes Priscilla a major disappointment from a true cinematic visionary who's capable of better." Nailed it.
Even worse is the fact that NOONE is going to LEARN ANYTHING about their relationship because Priscilla trips over herself year after year as she steals more and more money from Lisa Marie's trust. She is a dark figure that was a terrible mother to her daughter. She is entirely unbelievable as her stories change over the years. Lastly none of her accusations about Elvis bore any fruit., She was never able to prove anything. No eyewitnesses and no evidence. Her word cannot be believed.

He was a great entertainer but a horrible, unfaithful husband who suffered from inherited genetic diseases from his mother, passed to Lisa Marie. I find it odd that a person would make a movie about someone's personal love life without that person even having been there to witness it, let alone have the daughter completely disapprove. That there is going to be a movie about her grandfather that is going to try to make him look really, really bad, but it’s not true. I had to explain that her beloved grandmother is supporting it. These two little girls have been through so much in the past 7 years, enduring my divorce and horrific custody battle and then losing their brother. We’ve all been drowning,” Lisa Marie Presley wrote.
Opposing to the film "Priscilla" she praised the 2022 film “Elvis,” which was directed by Baz Luhrmann, as “a break from suffering and a ray of light that hit us last year … it made them so proud and honoured to be his granddaughters. It made them feel blessed for a moment and less cursed in life. It made us all so proud because it was a true depiction of who he really was.”
Lisa Marie appealed to Coppola's own Hollywood legacy, disappointed. “I would think of all people that you would understand how this would feel.” She said.
Coppola should know that making this movie will have an impact on Lisa Marie and her family. Her entire family were likely still mourning Benjamin Keough, who committed suicide for this exact reason. Pressure from society. This movie is surely not going to make things much better for the family.
Presley couldn't understand Coppola's "need to attempt to take my father down on the heels of such an incredible film using the excuse that you are trying to tell my mother’s story, but from your very dark and jaded reality.”
Priscilla should be in prison. She stole millions from her daughters trust right from under her without her knowledge or consent. Nepo baby Sophia should be banned from Hollywood forever after this attack on Elvis with a story that has no authenticity, no evidence and no eyewitnesses.

This is Priscilla's story about her marriage, not sugar coated. Elvis was a great humanitarian, entertainer, captivating on stage and of stage but as a husband he could have done a better job. He liked his women young so he could mold them he did the same thing with his last girlfriend Ginger who always wore make-up even in bed cause Elvis liked it that way and other wise she looked like a kid he said. Elvis was not the same husband after she had a baby, right after that he went to Vegas and started his 3,5 year affair with Joyce Bova he told Joyce he and Priscilla had an open marriage except Priscilla didn't know about that LOL. But it must have been very lonely for Priscilla one time they were on the road for 9 months on a row according to Charlie Hodge and Elvis missed home and he got all sentimental when he heard Green Grass of Home playing on the radio. He requested it to play again and again. I think the song You were always on my mind right after his divorce Elvis thought of Priscilla while singing the song😢

Imo, the problem wasn't that Priscilla dated/got married very young. If Elvis was like 17 or so, I wouldn't be so concerned since they'd still be both minors/teens.

It wasn't until the 1970s when the government completely stepped in and said it wasn't okay anymore. Teens back then were also wayyyy smarter and mature. Teens today act like 4 year olds and could never be attractive to any sensible adult.
My great grandma and grandma were both married at 15/16 to my grandpas in their early 20s… it was extremely common. Not right by today’s standards but extremely common back then. Women didn’t have options, that was what they were supposed to do, get married and have a family.

Just saw it last night. Her performance was unfortunately dull, but I don’t think it’s her fault. Her character had little to no substance so she didn’t have much to work with. I’m annoyed that they didn’t write her better, considering that Priscilla herself was involved in the making of the film.
See Susan Walters play Priscilla in the movie "Elvis & Me", 1988. That's as close to a Priscilla-looking as you will get so far to date. She played her character very well as Dale Midkiff portrayed Elvis.

I've watched it today and I really loved it, it was really interesting to see the point view and learn more of this woman who lived in the shadow of her husband, the end is beautifully sad as expected 'I have to leave to live my life' 🤧

I heard that this movie was based on Priscilla's book The King and Me... I remember seeing that movie as a kid on tv back in the 80's. I'm so happy to see it actually be made as a film and by Sofia Coppola. Can't wait to see this version of the movie.

One of the all time great American Dreams, from birth, living in a humble shack with no running water or electricity, to the death of his twin brother, to the birth of building St Jude's Hospital, to Polio the disease he helped eradicate through vaccine promotion, to the music he fused and arranged with his legendary baritone, to his charisma and stage presence, to breaking segregation apart down South, to the civil rights movement, and to his premature death; he was and is the most LOVED musician that ever lived.

I loved all the Sophia Coppola movies I've seen. They are as easy to feel and understand as mainstream movies, but unique, special, intimate, deep; without the need to create completely incomprehensible 3 hour film. And I believe that is a very hard thing to do.
Has to be tough playing Elvis in a movie right after Austin Butler delivered that generational performance.
