Idk if it goes for everyone but my doctor would like stretch out my vagina like around the rim/ perineal massage everytime I would push and I didn’t tear! I 100% go with the fact that him doing that made me not tear
Malia Reynolds no “forced pushing” eg Doctor telling you when you can push. It’s best if the mum waits till she just pushes on her own. Way less chance of tearing
@@Nurse_zabe The Disney princesses would be in good company having you in their ranks, your videos are super helpful and reassuring to moms to be! Thank you for sharing with love and care.
@@kaylasnow8686 try lemon juice and sour candy. It seemed counter-productive to me at first, but it eased it just enough to get some rest and function semi-normally.
OMG that's what I've been saying for the past month! Currently 35 weeks and didn't have heartburn early on but there is definitely fire in there now. I'm pretty sure it's a toss up between Chewbacca and Cousin It.
I had an emergency c-section. I had placenta previa and started bleeding heavily at 31 weeks, we rushed to the hospital. I went under general and from the time we walked into the hospital they had me prepped and my baby out in 11 minutes. Loved my nurses and how well they handled the situation and my fear!
OB staff are crazy fast. I swear a speed test has to be part of their application process. I worked in the ER for a while and we had an imminent delivery come in during the night (baby was already crowning). Labor and delivery is 3rd floor, ER is 1st floor. From the moment we called the code to when their staff showed up was 60 seconds flat. It was CRAZY.
I lost my first baby and it’s become very taboo to be able to get any help or advice on eventually being a mom again. No trigger here. Just glad to not be alone and have a second chance at my dream :) you rock!
I pray I have a nurse as comforting as you when I give birth. Due June 16th 2020 &just had my first ultrasound yesterday. It was so awesome hearing that little heartbeat. ❤️
Omg #10! I actually got some grief from one of the midwives I worked with for not gaining enough weight. I gained 15 lbs for the whole pregnancy (I started at a normal BMI), which I know is below the recommended amount. I didn't diet, count calories, or anything. I continued to exercise through my pregnancy, but never excessively. I ate mostly healthy, sometimes not, and then just waited to get hungry again before I ate. Baby was born 6 lbs 11 oz, perfectly healthy, and my pregnancy was normal. There seems to be a slight double-standard with weight. We never want to hurt someone's feelings by saying they should lose weight, but if someone needs to gain we just flat out say it. Anyways. I don't hold anything against the midwife now - she was just doing her job. But as a first time mother, to be asked by someone if I was "even eating" was actually really upsetting. All my other stats were normal, bump was growing fine. And in some countries they don't even weigh you. Ok, ok. I'm done now, promise lol
There are countries who actually set weight gain guidelines at 15-25 and not 25-35. I've had pregnancies where I've gained 15-20 pounds and most of my providers were like "it's fine, it's less weight to lose later anyway," and the babies were 7 pounders with perfect apgar scores.
BMI chart has been widely discredited as bad science and also racist. No medical provider should be using it in the modern world. Millions are denied or delayed care because of weight discrimination. Usually this is for patients who are not skinny, but it happens to people of all weight. It's really sad.
I would really love one of these videos that deals with induction. I feel like the internet scares the crap out of new moms when it comes to induction. I am 40 weeks + 1 today and my OBGYN scheduled my induction for the end of next week as is standard practice. I found when speaking to her about a lot of the things that I was worried about she said were not true or grossly exaggerated Some examples being: they make Labour significantly more painful. They can make labour longer. They can make you need to have a C-section. They can make you need more medical interventions. Etc
I had a scheduled induction at 37 weeks due to having cholestasis and I had only about 2 days to prepare for it (everything was very last minute) and I was terrified to about it because I too read a lot of negative things about it online but honestly the experience wasn’t bad, I think it made me feel better knowing what I was there to do rather than having my water break at any random time The contractions are pretty painful but I was given the 3 doses of meds (I don’t remember what it’s called sorry) and when I couldn’t handle the pain I just got the epidural and it was amazing from there on honestly I would’ve gotten it so much sooner Overall I had the contractions for almost 12 hrs I think and gave birth 2 hrs later :) pushing only took me 30 min
I personally loved my induction experience. I was 3cm when I was admitted, started pitocin at 10am & my daughter was born just under 15 hours later at 12:47am. Everyone will try to scare you & say that pitocin makes contractions unbearable but that is NOT true! I went through my entire labor & delivery without an epidural & it was fine! I didn’t feel a single contraction until my water broke at 8cm & then my daughter was born 2 hours later so it was only painful for those 2 hours. You got this!
I was induced with twins for my first pregnancy, so Pitocin contraction are all I know. I labored for 7 hours without an epidural on Pitocin (I did have a dose of fentanyl) and only got one because I was so sleepy. I took an hour nap and went from 7cm to crowning. Looking back I definitely could have asked for something to help me sleep instead because I was never in a lot of pain. It did hurt but nothing that I couldn’t just close my eyes and breath through. I was able to deliver both babies without any issues.
Currently 30 weeks and 3 days pregnant with my first baby. Your videos have made me feel so much more prepared and relaxed about my wee mans arrival. Thanks so much for making these videos, you're an absolute star
Ah, I LOOOOVE how honest you are in your videos. You bring people BACK DOWN TO EARTH (emergency c-sections specifically is what I'm referencing). It's not belittling at all. People are always so dramatic. I'm glad you dispelled all these rumors for us (like milk not coming in). I'm 32-weeks and so glad I watched this!
“Your big ole honkin 9 pound baby” 😂😂 I’ve had 2 of those hahah. 9lb 5oz and 9lb 7oz! I’m cooking baby #3 and I feel like it’s gonna be 10 pounds. Pray for meeee
My son was 9lb 14 oz 😩😳 and now I’m less than a month from giving birth to my second child, first daughter. I didn’t gain as much weight with her but drs are concerned she will be big too! Guess we’re just prone to big babies lmao 😂🤷🏼♀️
I am not pregnant nor do l plan on being for several years but here l am watching every video😂 I’ve decided l need to move wherever you live so you can be in nurse when the time comes😂
,Your such a big help this is my first pregnancy I’m due December 5th and I feel so comfortable and ready because of your channel I know what to ask my nurse and I know what to do Thank you ❤️
Nurse Zabe I just want you to know how much your videos have helped calm me. I am 25+5 right now with my first kiddo. He's my family's first grandkid too, so I'm flying by the seat of pants. I'm an anxious person by nature, but I am always calmer when I have more info to squelch those irrational fears. I love watching your videos and you always answer questions I've been wondering! Love you girl! Thank you for taking the time and effort to do these!
I just want to say thank you. I’ve been watching your videos before I even had the blessing of becoming pregnant and now ending my 8th month the anxiety is definitely there and your videos have helped so much. Even just guiding me to topics to talk to my dr about when questions arise it is greatly appreciated ❤️
To add to the cord around the neck: If you deliver vaginally, and there's more than three loops of the cord around the neck expect the doctors to share all of the potential negative side effects. On the brighter side of things, and using myself as an example, but babies can develop normally after having the cord wrapped around the neck 6 times and being vaginally delivered. I set a hospital record on the number of cord wraps, and my parents were expecting me to be extremely disabled based on what the doctors said. I'm college educated, have a technical full time job, a house, husband, fruit trees, and my only issue is scoliosis.
Currently being induced. 4cm 70% effaced, 8 hours into labors. Contractions are intense but doing okay with the gas so far. 😁 Can't wait to have my baby boy. ❤️
@@Nurse_zabe 24 hours after pitocin started, 18 hours after she broke my water, I only got to 7.5cm and 80% effaced so my labor ended in a C-section but was a blessing in disguise because I had a large dermoid cyst on my ovary that was missed by all the ultrasounds so she was able to remove it. We're both doing very well. He was a healthy 7lb 11oz. ❤️
Congrats!! Glad you are both doing well. Enjoy those sweet baby snuggles. I’m rocking my giant 1-year-old down for his nap right now. It goes by so fast 😭😭
Yes please!! I had it early with my first the whole way through, now 9 weeks and it started early with this one too 😷 its miserable. Good luck everyone xx
Your videos had helped me so much throughout my pregnancy. I was scheduled to be induced at 40 +6, which was on a Wednesday. But I had an NST that Monday I failed it , got sent to the hospital I was having contractions but they told me that I was probably dehydrated, didn't even check if I was dilated and sent me home. Around midnight that same day my contractions got worse and my mom made me go to the hospital I was having contractions every minute and so all of the nurses ran into the triage room to check if I was dilated and I was already 7 cm. They took me straight to the labor and delivery room gave me my epidural which slowed my labor down tremendously around 7am the next morning I was 9 cm dilated they gave me pitocin which did absolutely nothing but by 9am I was pushing there were quite a few complications while giving birth. Everytime I push my baby's heart completely stopped I was having a hard time breathing I ended up being put on oxygen the entire time she had came out with her hand up so I tore in every place imaginable. My placenta broke upinside of me so my doctor had to reach her arms in and pull it out in pieces. I am 5 weeks postpartum and have to get a d&C done because I'm bleeding through a pad an hour and have been for about 2 weeks.
Is there any information you can give me about the D&C procedure, and are there any risks for having it done? I'm only 17 and have never had any kind of surgery or anything of that sort, I'm a little nervous
You have such a soothing voice I would LOVE for you to be my L&D nurse!! I’m not pregnant or anywhere near trying but I am a new RN and super interested in this area of nursing
Hello Elizabeth, can you please make a video that talks about tearing while giving birth and how to avoid tearing? This would be great because it gives me anxiety!
My mono mono twins had so many knots, twists and a nuchal cord together. The cords were thankfully SO thick and to this day, I'm so thankful for our amazing bodies! Thanks for this video!
Something I just have to get off my chest (Pun intended) breast feeding with implants??? I rarely ever EVER hear anyone talk about breastfeeding with implants. Does anyone know if there's anything to be especially wary of?
You should be fine if you still have some of your beast tissue. Sometimes they cut and put the implant over the breast tissue/milk ducts and directly under the skin-in this case the ducts are severed from the nipple and you can’t nurse. Other times they cut under the tissue/milk ducts and it goes implant, intact breast and nipple; in this case you usually are able to breastfeed as the breast is left pretty much intact THOUGH you may have fewer milk ducts still intact as some may have been severed to make room for the implant. If you have the second style implant, you should be able to breastfeed but might struggle in some areas. You might have fewer milk ducts and so might have to work harder to keep up with babe. You might also lose some nipple sensitivity with breast augmentation which could make it hard to get a good latch. That’s me being realistic but plenty of women with implants go on to breastfeed as long as they want to.
I did a breastfeeding class when I was in nursing school and there is nothing to be worried about!! I’m not sure if they’re still up but Hayley Paige has talked about the topic and she as well as most mothers with implants have been successful:)
I've had implants since long before I had children. I've had no issues breastfeeding with my first 2 children and I'm currently 33wks pregnant with #3. I had saline implants put in using the TUBA method for the first set. I breastfed my first 2 children. Then last year I had silicone implants put in with a donut lift and they went in periareolar. I've been paranoid it would affect my ability to breastfeed since they cut my areolas, but can confirm I'm able to express colostrum now. So, I'm assuming breastfeeding will go fine with #3. The only struggle I've had with being large chested is when they were full and hard, I really had to pinch my nipple/areola flat to help my babies get it into their mouth and latched well. I'm sure naturally large chested women experience the same struggle. So, implant moms should be able to breastfeed the same as anyone else. Don't worry about that. Get help from a lactation consultant at the hospital after you have your baby if you're inexperienced.
I’ve loved watching your videos as a college student pursuing a career as a labor and delivery nurse. You’re such an inspiration and it’s been so interesting to hear your perspective!
I love your videos so much! I’m 31 weeks with my second and your videos always put me at ease. I had an emergency csection with my first due to a placenta rupture at 27 weeks. I’m hoping and praying we have a different experience this time around.
Brittany Jackson I had a lot of bleeding, luckily I was in the hospital when it happened. I woke up to blood gushing out heavily. They got my baby out with 11 minutes. I didn’t really have pain until after they checked me, but I was in shock from the blood loss so I wasn’t very alert to the pain.
7w+5d pregnant here, I am loving your channel. Even though I have a 14 year old daughter, it was so long ago I need to refresh my memory plus there is always something new to learn ❤
QUESTION FOR L & D NURSE: is it possible to push past a swollen cervix? or do you have to wait for swelling to reduce first? and is that only possible with an epidural? Thank you so much! You're truly an inspiration to us women ❤ looking forward to your next uploads, keep 'em coming!
Thank you for donating to NILMDTS. I delivered my twins too soon on March 27th at 21w4d. I wish I had known about their services at the time. Though uncomfortable for some... I thank you for bringing up pregnancy and baby loss. I wish I had known about the harsh reality prior to. I was under the false assumption that we were safe after 12 weeks.
Omgggg you are literally the most adorable human being! Somehow you being a L&D nurse and deal with babies is just so perfect and fitting for your personality! If only women can be so lucky to have a nurse like you during L&D :)
The way you explain things is so helpful! It's thorough, calm, informed and supportive....really makes some tough topics so easy to understand and feel better about!
Loved your talk about the cords! I know people can get freaked out when thinking of a nuchal cord but generally it’s not concerning. My friend who had her baby last year though was definitely an outlier, baby had recurrent decels as labor progressed further, when they did the c-section they found baby had a nuchal cord X5!! Have never heard of that before!
Can I just say, I LOVE YOU. You explain everything wonderfully, and I feel so much more prepared and I’m pregnant with #3! Thank you for all your videos!
I'm 37 weeks pregnant my baby has got heart disease so will be induced at 38_39 weeks ...I have been very anxious but iv been watching your videos you explain everything so I want to thank you I'm ftm I feels bit more comfortable about labor xx
I’m glad you explained the difference between scheduled, emergency and urgent c sections. When people ask I often say not scheduled but not sure if it was emergency. I had to have a c section because my fluid was too low and my baby was breach. So I delivered that day but the time pushed back a few times because other emergency/more urgent c sections came up.
I knew my c-section was emergent because my labor nurse and doctor told me, it was a long labor and baby was doing well but suddenly dark meconium began leaking out and baby's heartrate dropped too low. They really rushed me in there! I was happy I'd had a trial of labor at least, felt my body was more ready to switch to mom mode. But so so glad that emergency c-sections are available and they move FAST
Baby 1 and 2 has a cord around their necks. This is the best info on that situation I’ve heard yet. Makes me less concerned for baby 3 due February. Thank you
My first son had his cord wrapped and had recurrent deceleration and I still had a vaginal birth. Nurses were scared, but you’d never have known! He’s great and had no issues. ❤️ My second son also had his cord wrapped, but had no deceleration. 🤷🏼♀️
I was a month and 6 days premature and I wrapped the cord around myself.. I think mother said that I was in NICU for 6 weeks for jaundice, I would fall asleep eating and I was only 4lbs6oz. She had an emergency c-section on New Years morning at 6:15am. So proud of her and the team that nursed me and mom back to health.
The heartburn one I always thought was untrue. Maybe I just dont get heartburn! I had no heartburn my entire pregnancy! And my daughter came out with so much hair. I love your videos, btw. So informative. :)
I don’t think it’s true for everyone. My sister has babies with crazy hair and no heart burn. Me on the other hand I can’t get rid of the heart burn and mine come out bald.
Thank you for talking about birthing hips. When I was 19 I was underweight because of a fast metabolism my family doctor at the time saw my hip size and told me that I was going to have a very hard pregnancy if I could even have kids. Because of this occurrence until like a month ago I have been terrified of ever being pregnant on top of the fact that my family has a lot of history of miscarriages. I am not expecting now but my fiance and I like to start trying in a year or so. Your videos along with some others have really been helping me demystify pregnancy and giving birth and now I am actually excited to be pregnant one day.
Tall... thin ..never bigger than a size 4....and narrow hips here. About to have my 4th any day now. Labor #1 easy n fast. 1st pain to delivery...6hrs. #2... Super fast...no meds. First pain till delivery: 1 hr 45 mins__super easy! 3rd baby was 4 hrs start to end as she was a semi induction after a partial placental tear...so they started labor for me, still fast. The hips thing is a myth indeed!🤣
I have a question for your q & a if possible, what are good gifts for labor and delivery nurses? We love the team who delivered my angel baby and took care of me, and will most likely see a few of them for our rainbow due in March!
I love you! You’re so calm and reassuring 🤗❤️ Can you do a video all about “How to know when you’re ready to try for a baby?”... My hubby and I have been together for almost 9 years and married for 2 and a half. We want children in our lives, but is there ever a right time? How did you know? 😊 Love your videos!
From personal experience, you'll never be ready. You can be finally stable, debt free, stress free and have a perfect life and when you give birth you with still freak out. You'll never be ready until you have to be. I have one and am pregnant with my second. As long as you and you can husband are happy with it then go for it
I’d love to see a video about things your labor nurse wants you to know about preterm labor. I’ve went into labor 3 times already this time around and thankfully I’ve had great nurses each time but I’d love to see a video with some information on preterm labor
Can you do a video about what it’s like going through nursing school and how to become a labor and delivery nurse? Would LOVE your personal experience and info on that
I feel so wrong watching these videos sometimes because I know I would not be supported by family members, friends if I were to have a baby right now. I am over the age of 18 and am really craving to be a young mom but I know I would be shunned by most people but I think your videos and many like this are very educational for those who want to have a planned pregnancy but need to make logical decisions and be properly educated first.
*More examples of Urgent vs. Emergency C-section* My mother had three C-sections. The first she had an umbilical cord prolapse this is an emergency. The second was planned because of scar tissue from the first C-section. The third (me) started out as urgent because of bleeding, turned into Emergency because of a placental rupture in combination with part of the placenta didnt want to detach from the uterus. Emergency is when eminent death is approaching for mother or baby. Urgent is where it will likely be a serious issue soon, and scheduled or planned is exactly how it sounds!
This! I'm so tired of people saying emergency when it's NOT. I know someone who was impatient, got induced at 39 weeks, body was trying to tell her it's not time and after 14 hours she got an "emergency" section 🙄
Your discussion of labor and cervical change sparked a question. If you have had a c section and are having contractions but they aren't changing the cervix, can that put you at risk for uterine rupture?
I worked in the OR at the same delivering place. I was an induction because I was 41 wks. That night, I was 2.5 cm and they gave me the epidural so I could sleep and not deliver on the night shift. I was in labor for 19 1/2 hrs and almost needed forceps. I was having cervical change.
My emergency C-section was following an amnio that went wrong and my son was in a dire condition. My amnio started at 9 a.m. and by 9:11 a.m. I had been moved down the hall to a surgery suite and he was delighted. 11 minutes total including changing rooms, prep and delivery. The needle from the amnio had punctured a vein in the placenta and he had lost blood into the sack and was delivered in shock with an apgar of 1. I will always tell everyone I had the easy part that day. I just got knocked out and had surgery, my husband was the one with the traumatic experience as he didn’t know if he might loose his first child and saw him being taken from the operating room white and not moving and having to be taken for emergency care.
lol I love your videos. They are certainly helping me relieve some birth anxiety. I've got two months left to go, provided that my baby continues to put on weight. Currently on watch because he's 15% below the growth curve. Hoping he'll get to stay in there for the full nine months, but we'll see how it goes. Thank you for being weird and awesome and making me chuckle several times
I had an emergency c section due to a bad preeclampsia and hellp syndrome at 30 weeks. My team of doctors, nurses and anesthesiologist were so amazing though. Not a minute passed where I was scared for me or my baby as I was surrounded by so much sweetness. If you have a NICU baby (preterm) it's okay!! Like my nicu nurse told me, even though little, that tiny person is still a baby getting where they should be. No matter what type of birth you have, no matter how little or big your baby is, you're a mom! And everything will be okay ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your videos! ❤️ I'm almost 12 weeks and I have so many questions since this is my first pregnancy. Your videos always put my mind at ease and help me feel like I can handle my pregnancy and labor like a badass! ❤️😄
Kaitlyn Duncan they usually tell you that they recommend you requesting it about 30 minutes to an hour before you can not handle the pain anymore. Also, most hospitals will give you an epidural up until about 8cm.
Totally depends on how you handle it. I refused an epidural with my 1st, and I'm planning on refusing it again. I got to the point where I asked for pain relief, to which they offered me an epidural (no thank you) or morphine (hell no, as it affects the baby) so I just got on with it with my gas and air, which started making me sick so I stopped that too 🤷🏻♀️ Also, they can't force you to have one, even if you're screaming in agony. Your body, your choice. If you can, try a birthing pool, alot of people say it helps so much. I unfortunately wasn't allowed one as I was induced and my daughter had had a poop inside.
Do it while you can still sit still. I've had two and the second time was easier because the contractions weren't as bad yet. You have to be very still while they place it and if things are getting intense that will be hard
Katrina Peine Thank you that helps! I really want to see if I can do it naturally but I’m worried it will get too bad and then I won’t be able to get the epidural anymore!
You should do a video of rair or not common problems during pregnancy. Like preclamps and being rh negative so you have to get rhogam shots. I would love to see what you have to say about them I had both with my daughter. I'm 16 weeks now and hoping I dont get preclamps this time
I have a couple of questions. 1) I tore really badly last time and I'm horrified to give birth this time around. Will I tear again? 2) how to deal with nasty midwives/nurses. When I had my daughter I had some horrible nurses. And it made the experience so much worse than it already was.
My sister tore with her first I told her to try kegals with the second because I do them regularly and have never tore after 4 kids but I also think it was because she was really tense 😬 even with an epidural she was scared to push but the baby was coming no matter what 😆. The second one was much better she did tear but minimally no stitches and she was better at pushing anyway I’m sorry you went through it but don’t be scared ❤️
Had an emergency csection in 2012, I had severe preeclampsia and was in the hospital for a week. The perinatologist came in to tell me at 1:50 pm to tell me my daughters cord had completely stopped delivering oxygen to her, she was born at 2:27 pm not breathing. I was 27 weeks pregnant and she weighed 1lb. They were not providing medical intervention for until she tried breathing on her own. Once she took her first breath, all the NICU nurses and the neonatologist rushed her to to the NICU, where she spent the first 3 months of her life! Now she’s 7 going on 17
Love how your little girl snuck into the video at the start it crack me up!! Also love you and your personality your very relatable and listening to you helps ease my anxious mind!!!! Also my little baby was kicking away to this video hehe
Hey! I was wondering if you could make a video about pregnancy/birth anxiety and how to overcome it. I also feel like everyone talks about postpartum depression but never talk about depression during pregnancy-i feel like its because of the guilt you may feel as everyone makes it feel like you should only be happy during this time. But my body dismorphia is making me depressed with my body changing so much. I have anxiety and typically medicate with marijuana (i live in California) however ive opted not to use marijuana while pregnant. The anxiety has been really intense probably in combination with the hormones. Would just like to know some methods you might know through your experience and education. Thank you!
What’s the “farthest” you can get in labor & chose to still get an epidural? I’ve seen a lot of movies / shows / videos where the woman is like I change my mind I want an epidural & the Dr is like “it’s too late”
If baby is coming coming! I would guess 8-10 cm. my sister wanted epidural, they put me out the room to give it to her. 2 minutes later they called me back & said its too late, she’s gonna push, nephew was here in less than 5 minutes 🤗
It seems to be that by the time many women ask for a late epidural, they're in so much pain that they can't hold still enough for the anesthesiologist to safely place the needle. Your spine is not a part of your body where you want them to slip and stick a needle somewhere it shouldn't be!
99% sure that once you start pushing you can’t get an epidural anymore. Which can suck because some people just feel that urge to start pushing even if the baby isn’t even close!
I was scheduled for an urgent Cesarean because I had preeclampsia & HELLP syndrome that was a class 2 but because I deteriorated to a class 1 so quickly they rushed me back & I was put under general anesthesia & they sliced me open. I had a huge hematoma for 2 weeks & so much internal scar tissue from how fast they got my daughter out. From the time I was taken back, they had me put under, prepped, sliced open & she was out with in 11 minutes.
I love your videos & absolutely love how considerate you are to everybody’s different opinions and situations. You’re so sweet! & the heartburn thing I heard about when I was pregnant with my daughter & had killer heartburn, didn’t really believe it until she was born with a full head of thick hair, my son was bald and I did not have heartburn with him 😂 I’m on my third pregnancy and have no heartburn so I’m guessing it’ll be another little baldie lol
Thank you for all your videos! I love watching! Could you please do a video about tokophobia? I'm curious about how it's dealt with by nurses and obs. Does tokophobia include fear of having a c-section? I've tried to do research on my own about this, but I can't find anything good information that isn't just people writing articles saying not to be afraid. (For reference, after hearing about my mother's section with me where it was botched and causes her pain even to this day, and after seeing my sister go through a horrendous experience with a section as well, I'm absolutely terrified of having to have a baby in case I end up needing one as well. Even thinking about it or watching anything about it makes me verge in panic attacks at the best of times. I'd love to see a therapist about this, but I'm not in a country where I speak the language fluently, so it's not possible right now. So anything you would like to say about the topic would be great. I want to have children one day, but this is holding me back from that.) Thank you.
Hearing my mother's experience with a C section with me in 1984 over and over again has absolutely terrified me. She has a scar across her whole belly that has no sensation. She also contracted Hep C from the hospital blood transfusion that has been affecting her for decades. It has been helpful to me to watch modern videos to learn that C sections are not the same as they were back then, nor as common. We have had many advances in medical technology, and that's awesome.
I have a bit of a background in ECE and a part of that came with a lot of knowledge about the body, pregnancy and labor/delivery, babies. And not to scare any mama's but when my sister in law was pregnant, we all found out about halfway through and she really did not know what to expect from any part of the journey. So everything was a suprise, actually a shock really. She had many issues during labor and delivery, she had a dangerously lengthy labor which ended in an emergency csection and an absolutely traumatized mama, physically and mentally. She was not prepared for even the best case scenario, and to have had the almost worst case scenario every step of the way, it was really hard on her in more ways than one. So much so breastfeeding was off the table, connecting with her baby was off the table, honestly she was fighting for herself to survive mentally and emotionally. So it is kind of hard to hear when a mama considers herself to have had an emergency c section, and when you kind of go into the details you find out that it was just not a a part of the plan that they had a relatively challenging experience but like she said not in the case of an emergent situation. And then I compare that to the knowledge i have of my sister in laws birth and other mama's who have shared their birth story with me, how traumatic birth can really be, how actually dangerous it was for them, life threatening even. And you realize how important it is to understand what is happening to you during your labor and delivery and how to label the birth for what it was so theres not a chance for someone to minimize your experience or so that another mama isn't triggered and etc. Just my thoughts on the subject 😊
19:31 yeah I told my doctor that my nipples were super sore, hurt super bad to breastfeed and my son was pulling blood to the surface. That's what she told me, was it's shallow latch and I needed to get my nipple more in his mouth. It did the trick, it did not hurt ever again after I fixed that part.
My epidural ran out, the bag of medication actually ended up empty just as I got to pushing. I ended up needing a forcep delivery which in Australia is done in the operating theatre with an epidural so a c section can be done if needed so mine got topped up in there. They don’t have anaesthetist there at night they have to call them in so mine couldn’t be topped up until they realised they might need to do a c section. Baby head circumference was 38cm and her arm was up by her head with the cord wrapped around her neck and body so apparently I did very well to avoid a c section, I almost pushed her out but I’d had contractions for 30 hours and was just too tired to keep pushing and her heart rate kept dropping and wasn’t coming up enough and she just wasn’t tolerating labour anymore.
with my first son my epidural did run out. and i asked if i could get more and they said there was no time and i spent the next 2 hours pushing my son out and could feel most of it. with my third the epidural was continual and i had the button. it was a different hospital and i am so glade i had a better experience that time.
I love your videos! Very educational even tho I'm not pregnant. I have posteral hypotension and no one in my family has it so none of them can answer questions about how low blood pressure affects pregnancy and the ability to get an epidural during labour. If you could answer, that would be awesome!
What about cervical change without contractions? I went into the hospital at 37 weeks because my baby felt low but I wasn’t having contractions, but when I checked in I was 6cm dilated 😬
What are some reasons why milk wouldn’t come in? I tried EVERYTHING and my milk never came in. I pumped every hour the way my lactation consultant taught me. I got a few drops of colostrum. But that’s it. My son is almost 4 months old now and my milk never came in. I also want to note, I had to have an emergency C-Section. My son’s heart rate kept dropping with contractions while I was pushing. He ended getting stuck in my pelvis and his heart ended up stopping while I was pushing. It was incredibly chaotic. Lots of yelling in the OR. And they were making the incision before I was completely numbed. I remember them pinching my stomach asking if I could feel it and I could and my doctor literally said, “We can’t wait” and there she went. And then I almost bled out and died. They told me later that had I lost one more cup of blood, I would’ve died. Anyway. Just wanted to share.
Can we have a how to avoid tearing when giving birth video?
Yeeees
PLEASE
Idk if it goes for everyone but my doctor would like stretch out my vagina like around the rim/ perineal massage everytime I would push and I didn’t tear! I 100% go with the fact that him doing that made me not tear
Malia Reynolds no “forced pushing” eg Doctor telling you when you can push. It’s best if the mum waits till she just pushes on her own. Way less chance of tearing
Taylor Clay they did that with me, and I still ripped to a 4th degree, I think it depends on your body and baby

If only I weren’t too y’all to be a princess at Disney!

19weeks tomorrow and I've had heartburn since before we even found out about little man. So I'm am 100% convinced I am giving birth to chewbacca.
It does get better! I am 21 weeks and I'm telling you, it is wonderful that I've been burn free for a few weeks now.
@@bonificent3138 gosh I hope so it kept me up until 3am the other night. Tried tums and milk and water and. Nothing worked. Ughh it was terrible.
Hahahahaha ..... That's hilarious. And also, may be true 🤣😂
Will do! Thanks for the advice. 😊❤️
I'm June 3rd 2020!! Hoorey for June babies!!
Also BIG congrats!! 😊
Lily Lauer Aww, thank you! And congratulations to you too! That’s so awesome! 😊❤️😊

Your daughter creeping up was funny
She’s so cute!!
I found when speaking to her about a lot of the things that I was worried about she said were not true or grossly exaggerated
Some examples being: they make Labour significantly more painful. They can make labour longer. They can make you need to have a C-section. They can make you need more medical interventions. Etc
Pitocin contractions are definitely more painful! I’ve gone both ways. Having been induced I would avoid it at all costs. But that’s me personally.
Is it your first baby?
I had a scheduled induction at 37 weeks due to having cholestasis and I had only about 2 days to prepare for it (everything was very last minute) and I was terrified to about it because I too read a lot of negative things about it online but honestly the experience wasn’t bad, I think it made me feel better knowing what I was there to do rather than having my water break at any random time
The contractions are pretty painful but I was given the 3 doses of meds (I don’t remember what it’s called sorry) and when I couldn’t handle the pain I just got the epidural and it was amazing from there on honestly I would’ve gotten it so much sooner
Overall I had the contractions for almost 12 hrs I think and gave birth 2 hrs later :) pushing only took me 30 min
Your little girl is too cute! I love how she just snuck in and smiled as if to say, "Hello everyone! I've arrived!"

Go, mama, go!!!
How’d it all go?
@@Nurse_zabe 24 hours after pitocin started, 18 hours after she broke my water, I only got to 7.5cm and 80% effaced so my labor ended in a C-section but was a blessing in disguise because I had a large dermoid cyst on my ovary that was missed by all the ultrasounds so she was able to remove it. We're both doing very well. He was a healthy 7lb 11oz. ❤️
Congratulations 😊💕💕💕
Congrats!! Glad you are both doing well. Enjoy those sweet baby snuggles. I’m rocking my giant 1-year-old down for his nap right now. It goes by so fast 😭😭
can we please discuss hyperemesis gravidarum vs morning sickness??
Oh my goodness I had Hyperemesis Gravidarum with my first pregnancy, that was awful!
Omg me too I had nausea and vomiting up until 5 months it's awful.
Yes please!! I had it early with my first the whole way through, now 9 weeks and it started early with this one too 😷 its miserable. Good luck everyone xx
It's a nightmare 🤢 This is my 5th pregnancy and I have it. Never had it with the other four. Absolutely horrible 😭
My goodness yes. This is brutal
It’s on my list!
My mono mono twins had so many knots, twists and a nuchal cord together. The cords were thankfully SO thick and to this day, I'm so thankful for our amazing bodies! Thanks for this video!
Those mono mono cords are INSANE! So glad they had such wonderful cords!
How did you know you had a rupture? Did you have pain? Bleeding?
I am so sorry for your loss, mama. Sending you hugs and prayers. 💗
Almost 32 weeks now and your videos have been everything to me!!
I found your channel at a perfect time ❤ I'm due January 2nd. Thank you for all of your videos, they're very comforting and educational!
Baby 1 and 2 has a cord around their necks. This is the best info on that situation I’ve heard yet. Makes me less concerned for baby 3 due February. Thank you
Yeeess!! I had horrific heartburn and my daughter was born with the most luscious head of hair 😍
My first son had his cord wrapped and had recurrent deceleration and I still had a vaginal birth. Nurses were scared, but you’d never have known! He’s great and had no issues. ❤️
My second son also had his cord wrapped, but had no deceleration.
It isn't true obviously, they just both positively correlate with higher estrogen so it tends to correlate for most women.
Edit: had baby #4 yesterday. Start to end labor 2hours!
@@Misslou2425 Congradulations! I hope you and baby get good rest.

I have a question for your q & a if possible, what are good gifts for labor and delivery nurses? We love the team who delivered my angel baby and took care of me, and will most likely see a few of them for our rainbow due in March!
I adore you! You are so much fun! I just found your channel, and I'm watching everything, and learning so much!
As long as you and you can husband are happy with it then go for it
Thank you for clarifying these "week long labors". I don't count labor until 4cm maybe 3
Would LOVE your personal experience and info on that
It’s on my list!
I love your videos ❤️ my husband and I are trying for a baby and these are so informative.
*More examples of Urgent vs. Emergency C-section*
My mother had three C-sections.
Risks involved with getting an epidural with scoliosis or other issues affecting the spine (arthritis, herniated disc, etc)?
Based on my heartburn my baby is coming out with a mullet and a 90’s style mustache 🤣
Goals. 😂😂
Have you discussed incompetent cervix? Wondering how long a cervix can be dilated for if you are around 20 weeks. Thanks for your videos!
You make me so calm I need you to come and be my nurse when I have my baby in April 😂
Great video as always! ❤ I'd love to know more about the way 'strep b' can effect pregnancy and labour?

Love your videos!!So informative!!Baby due in 3mths and the info answers so many questions🌷
The heartburn thing is true!!!?? I'm 36 weeks and I have had heartburn almost the entire pregnancy, even from water sometimes. I can't wait to see!
Studies show that mamas with heartburn tend to have babies with more hair!!
Update: baby was born with a full head of hair!
Question: how long can you go without an epidural before they say you can’t anymore? Would nurses prefer you get one earlier or later?
Kaitlyn Duncan they usually tell you that they recommend you requesting it about 30 minutes to an hour before you can not handle the pain anymore. Also, most hospitals will give you an epidural up until about 8cm.
Totally depends on how you handle it. I refused an epidural with my 1st, and I'm planning on refusing it again. I got to the point where I asked for pain relief, to which they offered me an epidural (no thank you) or morphine (hell no, as it affects the baby) so I just got on with it with my gas and air, which started making me sick so I stopped that too 🤷🏻♀️
Also, they can't force you to have one, even if you're screaming in agony. Your body, your choice. If you can, try a birthing pool, alot of people say it helps so much. I unfortunately wasn't allowed one as I was induced and my daughter had had a poop inside.
LittleJuneBee she just said in this video that an epidural doesn’t wear off... so
Do it while you can still sit still.
Do pelvic exercises help with childbirth?
Also my little baby was kicking away to this video hehe
super cute cameo at 2:45 💕 she's so precious!
Thank you!
"Nay nay!"
Now I have an urge to watch John Pinette stand-up videos lol
I think a lot of women ask for an epidural in the transition phase, which comes right before birth and pain really increases
From the time I was taken back, they had me put under, prepped, sliced open & she was out with in 11 minutes.
omg I didn't know about the hair and heartburn thing, so interesting. Great video nurse Zabe :) x
I love your videos & absolutely love how considerate you are to everybody’s different opinions and situations. You’re so sweet!
& the heartburn thing I heard about when I was pregnant with my daughter & had killer heartburn, didn’t really believe it until she was born with a full head of thick hair, my son was bald and I did not have heartburn with him 😂
I’m on my third pregnancy and have no heartburn so I’m guessing it’ll be another little baldie lol
I want to have children one day, but this is holding me back from that.)
Thank you.
Currently, 24 weeks and will be induced around 36 wks and I'm so grateful that I've found your videos. You're easing my mind about a lot of things!
My first labor was 10 hours and my second was 8.5 hours both with scheduled inductions at 39 weeks.
Baby head circumference was 38cm and her arm was up by her head with the cord wrapped around her neck and body so apparently I did very well to avoid a c section, I almost pushed her out but I’d had contractions for 30 hours and was just too tired to keep pushing and her heart rate kept dropping and wasn’t coming up enough and she just wasn’t tolerating labour anymore.
with my first son my epidural did run out. and i asked if i could get more and they said there was no time and i spent the next 2 hours pushing my son out and could feel most of it. with my third the epidural was continual and i had the button. it was a different hospital and i am so glade i had a better experience that time.
and the inside you talk about is the space between the pubic bone and the tailbone, right?
I feel like you are a safe person to ask 2 important questions, do I need a diet to get more milk for baby? Is it possible to not get milk
I love your videos! Very educational even tho I'm not pregnant. I have posteral hypotension and no one in my family has it so none of them can answer questions about how low blood pressure affects pregnancy and the ability to get an epidural during labour. If you could answer, that would be awesome!
I love to watch your videos! They are so helpful and educational.
First time mom um ? Do they have more pain meds instead of epidural I cant have that due to my scoliosis
My due date is tomorrow. This video is SO helpful haha
How'd it go?
Loved this! So informational and entertaining!
Love your video’s! I just had my little guy 6 days ago and your channel helped me prepare for what was to come. 👍
That’s so awesome to hear! I hope you and your little one are doing well! 💗💗
