At 15:40 the clips got mixed up. To clarify: If you are group B strep positive, your doctor will want to make sure you are adequately treated with antibiotics (often two doses) before artificially rupturing your membranes (AROM) to decrease the risk of a group B strep infection to your baby.
    Sorry for the confusion!

My labor was 29 hours and I was GBS positive. Since my water broke to kick things off, I can't imagine how much penicillin I wound up receiving lol! Love your channel, you're kicking butt getting all this content out with a new baby at home! Proverbs 31 ❤

I was induced with my little guy about three months ago. I was almost a week overdue, and honestly.. I would get induced for every single baby if I could! It was wonderful. We got a full night rest the night before (well, I barely slept bc how do you possibly sleep the night before having a kid), we were able to have a nice breakfast in the morning, stopped at Starbucks, (lol) and slowly made our way to the hospital. It was so relaxing and put me in the right mindset before going into labor. It wasn’t a situation of my water breaking in the middle of the night and having to rush to get to the hospital (I live about 35 minutes away from the hospital and wanted to avoid contractions in the car if at all possible). I was so surprised, because they didn’t even give me pitocin until the very end, and wanted to induce me as “naturally” as possible. First I was given cervidil, took some laps around the hospital, doc broke my water, then they gave me a little bit of pitocin at the very end. The nurses said it was a textbook induction delivery, and everything went great! I got an epidural about half way through labor (which lasted 6 hours total), and it was honestly such an incredible experience. Obviously going into labor naturally is usually the best case, but if you’re scared about getting induced.. don’t be! Your body knows exactly what it’s doing and the reward is so, so worth it! ❤️👶

I had a great induction experience, too! I actually went into labour from the Cervidil and didn't need the Pitocin. (I had actually had some bloody show that morning, so I think I was close to being in labour anyway.) Gave birth in about three hours and didn't end up getting an epidural because there wasn't time, LOL! It was definitely a lot better than I thought it would be.

For those hoping for a labor without the use of pain meds and are facing a medical induction, do not give up hope. My last delivery was induced. It was a vbac, and when a,b, and c did not work, I ended up having (a very small dose of) pitocin. I also had horrible back labor. Despite all of this, I did not use any pain meds. It IS possible. And honestly, the induction was not anywhere near what I feared it was going to be. Sure, I missed my water breaking at an inconvenient location, as well as the wondering if "this is it", but once the contractions began, it was just like my other labors.
    It is not all bad.

    • @jocelynsoria2590

Amy Francesca it’s also important to not that epidurals are not the only pain medication you can get. If the epidural is specifically what you fear then there are other options.

Thank you for the excellent video Nurse Zabe! I was induced almost 3 weeks ago at 37 weeks 2 days with my first little one due to gestational hypertension. I was nervous about it primarily due to horror stories found on RUclips and the internet, but trusted my OB and my Midwife. My experience was amazing and I’m determined to tell as many people as I can. I wish more people talked about their positive induction stories so nervous first time mamas weren’t terrified to follow their doctor or midwife’s medical guidance.
When I was admitted the night before my scheduled induction due to a headache and nausea secondary to my high blood pressure, I was 60% effaced and only a finger tip dilated. I immediately thought, “oh no, this is going to take forever.” Not the case. I had two doses of Misoprostal, I did have the foley bulb - didn’t hurt at all, just some pressure. Totally agree with your SIL about the most annoying part being the tail end of the foley being taped to your leg. After the foley bulb came out, I was about 5 centimeters dilated and 80% effaced. My midwife began pitocin at 1. Within a couple hours she only had to move me up to 2 on the pitocin. My body began to move things along on its on and the pitocin was stopped to avoid my contractions becoming too intense. I was at a 7 when they stopped the pitocin and broke my water. Once my water was broken (wow it is so much fluid), the contractions became really intense, but productive. I was fully dilated within 1.5-2 hours and ready to push. I pushed for about an hour. My baby girl was born healthy, not requiring any NICU time and is doing perfect at almost 3 weeks old. I only had a small abrasion near my urethra and according to my midwife, “a barely 1 degree” tear inside my vagina that required a couple stitches.
I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. If I have to have a medical induction in the future I won’t be terrified.

I love your videos and I learned a lot during my pregnancy. I was induced 3 weeks ago at exactly 39 weeks. I had planned on being induced because I’m 41 no complications and first time mom. My OB actually made me go into the hospital a day earlier because I wasn’t feeling much movement and that scared her...I had to get the IV patocin then the ballon...the balloon hurt so much OMG. Made the epidural seem like cake...they then broke my water in the evening...I can’t remember times because I was going through the motions. In conclusion I ended up having an 8 pound 14 ounce baby girl early.. in conclusion I’m glad I had been induced because she had trouble getting out. Her shoulder was tucked above my pelvis bone. Doc had to reach in a grab her out. I’m glad she’s fine despite the initial scare..pushed her out in 40 mins...I was in horror at the thought of pushing for hours...I’m glad everything worked out for me and I would definitely tell women just make sure to speak with your doctor about your concerns...had my doctor known my baby was that big she told me she would have considered c section to be safe...good luck to all women having babies. Wishing you a safe healthy delivery

I went completely natural with both my children. When I was having my son (my second child), I was at 7cm, not in any real pain at all (everyone was saying, “WOW! You’re doing great at 7cm!” LOL!) and didn’t progress for an hour. They told me that they could give me pitocin or I could stimulate my nipples to get things going faster as he needed to come out soon (water was broke a few hours before). I was at 38 weeks with him. I started to stimulate my nipples and within 20 minutes, I was in AGONY with severe back pain, at 10cm and starting to push. Nipple stimulation WORKS! They told me he was sunny side up and I should get on my hands and knees. At this point, I wasn’t moving positions at all with contractions every 1 minute. I just asked my doctor to use the warm mineral oil on my perineum and perineal massage. He came out 35 minutes later at 9lbs 1oz. Was TOTALLY worth it and I probably scared some people in the hallway with my screaming when he finally crowned, but hey, that’s natural labor for you! On my first baby and my second, they had to give me a pitocin shot in my leg AFTER labor because my uterus stopped contracting and wouldn’t release the afterbirth. I was blissfully unaware of the difficulty they were having because I was too focused on my BIG baby boy! The BEST distraction EVER!

Just a nuance, the future edit diagram you show is a Cook Balloon which I'd never seen (or heard of) until this hospital I'm at now. It has 2 balloons, one uterine, one vaginal. Each can fill up to 80mL (but this facility uses 60mL standard policy) and no traction is applied. The 2 balloons put pressure on both the internal and external os of the cervix to promote thinning as well as dilation. It comes with a stylet, so it's easier for the OB to place in a minimally dilated cervix. It's also silicon, so it's a little stiffer even without the stylet, and you don't have to worry about latex allergies. Patients are typically 4cm dilated when it comes out. If it doesn't come out, it's deflated and removed at 12 hours. This facility doesn't, but in researching it for myself, I've found because mechanical cervical ripening does not cause tachysystole, it can be done as an outpatient procedure. The patient checks into hospital the next day for medical induction. ACOG recommends all medical ripening be done inpatient because they can cause tachysystole. I encourage you as an awesome birth educator to try to get your facility to change policy on medical cervical ripening. Love your videos, sis. You're my mind of labor nurse.

I love what you said about how you’d love to see more research on that study that said inductions led to less c sections at 39 weeks than just waiting. And that you’re a huge fan of mother nature but on the other hand, sometimes mother nature is ok with you dying 😅 😂
This is so true!! I’m thankful for both the body knowing what to do but also medical advancements! We can appreciate both

I had 3 rounds of Cytotec, then Pitocin(continued pitocin until I gave birth), then a Foley bulb. Let me just say that the Foley bulb was the most excruciating pain I’ve ever experienced. Active labor pain wasn’t as bad as the manual induction. I’ve heard other women say it was uncomfortable but not painful. I’m not sure why it hurt me so much. Never again!

Does your hospital offer sterile water injections as a form of pain blockers? My midwife suggested i try it during my labour and it was incredible. I went from terrible back pain that prevented me from walking to freely walking around for the rest of the delivery. The TENS machine was only doing so much but the injections (while they did hurt SO BADLY when they were being put in) worked instantly and are the coolest thing.

The thought of induction makes me panic. My first I went into labor naturally. My second I was over due 9 days and so they broke my water and I walked until labor hit and then had my baby. I'm pregnant with my third and there are some health concerns with things and I'm keeping my fingers crossed I dont have to be induced. I went without pain medication both times and I prefer it that way. I'm a control freak and I cant deal with the thought of being numb and unable to move. As well as needles.. I absolutely hate them. I know tons of people who have had great induction experiences but I guess my natural childbirth class has me still freaked out.

  • @run4everon

I don’t remember the foley being painful, mine came out while I was using the restroom and that wasnt really uncomfortable just super weird feeling! I was induced using potocin and the foley, spent 36 hours being induced before ending up getting a csection. I was on 10 ml of pitocin for super long until my sons heart rate kept dropping after each contraction so they started dialing it back and took a break but his heart rate kept dropping. My water ended breaking on its own but I never dilated past 5cm and my son was never really engaged, really hoping my labor experience is super different the next time I get pregnant

With my first pregnancy I had my membranes stripped at a routine checkup. I believe I was almost 37 weeks. I the gestational diabetes. He did it on a Wednesday and I went into labor that Saturday night at around 10pm and had her Sunday at 5;25pm. And yes it is very uncomfortable. My mom tried to make it so she could hold my hand and be there with me. But she got there right as he was finishing. Not gonna lie I cried a little, mostly because I was alone. And my youngest I went into labor with none of that being done. I just remembered I kept waking up thinking I had to poop. See my first one was back labor. My 2nd felt so much different. But i have 2 healthy girls 14 and 4! Sorry for the long post of rambling. Lol. Love your videos by the way!

As soon as I hit 39 weeks and elective induction was offered I took it.
I was had so much anxiety if my baby was going to make it out okay I couldn't wait another week. I was already dilated so my OB said induction was favorable. No pain medications or epidural. No C-section.
It was the hardest thing I have ever done but overall a great delivery 😃

  • @lisaozenich
    @lisaozenich 4 года назад +6

The induction of my last pregnancy was so painful, and I didn't know exactly what could happen. I tried really hard to have a "natural" labor, a pain medication free one. I was a week overdue and they gave me the foley and pictocin right away. I was already dilated to 3 cm. I had only dilated to 5 after about 4 hours so they broke my water. I don't remember anything but intense pain after that. My contractions were 1 minute apart for the next hour. It was relentless. They offered me the epidural again, saying it could help me dialate so I took one dose of it. It only took me an hour to dialate and 5 pushes after to deliver my son.
I really want to try for a medication free labor again. I am terrified of the epidural, I know I can do it without. I'm terrified of being induced again. My decision making was so impaired by the pain after having my water broke, I would have agreed to having heroin injected into my eye if it meant my son would come sooner and the pain would stop.
I really appreciate all of these videos, especially the more recent ones featuring the labor toolbox. I've been afraid, but feeling much more confident in my ability to birth this second child.

This is baby 2 and baby 1 was partially induced. (My water broke on it's own but I never started contractions so I was given pitocin) this time around I keep having contraction and they can last a couple of hour increase in intensity and be 4 mins apart but it amount to nothing and it's making me think my body has trouble with contractions own its own.
