    THANK YOU so much for letting people know we can request the pitocin be turned down/off! I was induced with my 4th and it was AWFUL. Just way too much. My body likes to space contractions out when I'm in natural labor and they're very strong and effective but I get 3-5 minutes between them for the entiee time. With pitocin I had such strong, long contractions that happened so rapidly I think they were less than 30 seconds apart. I was absolutely writhing and screaming in pain and NOT coping well. I wish I would have known I could tell them to stop it. I'm pregnant with my 6th and doing my first *planned* hospital birth, which means I'll most likely be induced since my babies are always born past 42 weeks and no OB is going to be okay with that. I've been really anxious about it but hopefully my cervix will be ready and I can just get a kick start with pitocin and then let my body do its own thing.

    Love how informative this video was. I was induced with my first pregnancy becuase I had severe preeclampsia. They did the cytotec, cervidil, and the foley bulb. After the bulb fell out, they ruptured my membranes and I was given pitocin for augmentation. First method was given April 13.... I didn't go into labor and deliver until April 15.
    Now, two years later I'm nearing the end of my second pregnancy. I'm being induced August 20th because I have gestational hypertension this time around. I'm hoping it goes a lot quicker this time around

    My reason for induction with my last baby? I was 40 years old, and nd they didn't want me to go past the 40 week point. They broke my waters, and gave me a drip. Then 3.5 hrs after the start of the induction, she came out. She wasted no time after getting her eviction notice.

    • @josiegrosie4025
      @josiegrosie4025 6 месяцев назад +3

      I'm worried about that with my first baby at 38yo. I feel like just cuz I'm old doesn't mean the baby needs to come out if there are no complications.

    • @SassyGirl822006
      @SassyGirl822006 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@josiegrosie4025 the only real issue, if there are no other complications, is that the older the mother is, the more likely the placenta will decide to stop working really fast after 39-40 weeks. With older mothers the stillbirth rate drops dramatically if the baby is born no later than 40 weeks. I had my first at 29, and 3 babies before my last at 40. The more babies you have, the faster the labour tends to be. Also, none of my labours took particularly long.

    The bulb induction isn't talked about much but they use it at the University of Michigan hospital where I am a doula. It's so new (or uncommon?) that it wasn't mentioned in most texts in my recent training and the other doulas were discussing their unfamiliarity with it as well. I appreciate knowing more now than I did 15 minutes ago!

      I had a cook catheter for my second daughter's post dates induction at 41+3. Honestly, it just felt like a poorly inserted tampon, and 2 hours later it fell out. The worst part was the tension had to be tightened an hour in, and the tape they used definitely hurt my skin when it was repeatedly torn off. It worked great for me. I was nervous about cytotek because if baby didn't tolerate it well, there's no way to undo it. With the catheter, it can just come out if it's not working well.

    Cervidil was horrible. I had a bad reaction and had non-stop horrible contractions for 20 hours before I was dilated enough for an epidural. Then labor stalled and I needed pitocin which ended in an emergency c section 😢 Next time I will definitely ask for monitoring and a stress test before being induced (I had low amniotic fluid and they thought I had a big baby who actually turned out to be tiny 2.7 kg)
