I just want to leave some encouragement; you can still have that natural birth despite being induced. I was 41 +2 and decided to get induced. One because my only favorite midwife would be on shift the day I got induced. Two because I didn't want to push it to far into 42 weeks. Prior to getting induced I did all the things Bridget suggests to naturally induce labor(walking l,nipple stimulation sex etc). I was 4 to 5 cm and 70 %effaced the morning of induction. I got started on Pitocin at 625am upping the dosage by two every 30 min got up to 11. My midwife saw that I was 6 cm at 930 and told the nurse to stop pit at 9 because my body would naturally create oxytocin now as well. Although my baby was head down I felt the contractions on my back and my midwife said baby must be looking up so she did not break my water so baby wouldn't be stuck in weird position. I kept mobile the entire time rocking on the birth ball. In order to change baby's position I was standing directly over the bed rocking. The contractions were very intense and deep breaths plus my husband putting pressure on my back helped tremendously. At 1046am I delivered a healthy baby. I pushed about three times she came out along with a gush of water and everything else. The best advice I can give is to keep your mind focused on your goal and zone everyone out. At time of delivery there were about 3 nurses plus my midwife in the room and I just closed my eyes and listened to my midwife. An induction wasn't in my plans but God worked it out for me. May your birth experience be a positive one as well.

In fact induced births have a slightly lower risk of C-Sections than natural labour. So if a natural birth is something you really want then you should ask your OB/GYN whether induction is something you should consider.

For the woman who feel bad about being induced. DON’T! this is my 3rd baby and I’m getting induced at 39 weeks. @@Isaby94otz no no complications with the baby. He’s thriving and gaining weight and doing very very well. He was a good weight when I was induced and I never had any history of having problems with my babies. I can say that my labor was harder for me than with my other 2 (spontaneous deliveries) and I feel like because of that strain it’s making my recovery harder. I had a lot of blood clotting after too and they had to manually take the blood clots out of my body after delivery. I’m 6 weeks postpartum and still feeling quite a bit of pain and having extreme pain when sitting for a long period of time. Idk if that has anything to do with it but I didn’t have that problem with my other 2….. As far as my son goes he’s doing great and don’t see any differences in him than with my other 2 boys.

To those who came to watch this because they’re getting an elected induction, don’t feel bad for not waiting. I’m getting an elected induction at 39 weeks and 2 days on Friday and I’m so excited. I was so disappointed when she pushed the waiting until they’re “ready.” If baby is healthy, you get the okay from your OB/GYN, and it’s what you strongly feel like you want to do...go for it. Don’t listen to the opinions of others. ❤️.

Don't feel bad if you're getting induced for a reason that is not medically necessary. There's some good research that shows getting induced at 39 weeks is actually a good thing because the placenta starts to die/reduce function @ 40 weeks. and also just because its completely YOUR CHOICE.

I was induced yesterday with artificial rupture of waters and pitocin drip. I felt so defeated as I had so wanted a spontaneous birth (having also to had been induced with my first child due to high blood pressure).
Fortunately my midwife spent time listening to what my original wishes were and was on board with helping me get as close to as natural an experience as possible.
From the beginning I kept lights low, used swaying and rhythmic use of a stress ball banging against the bed. When I was feeling overwhelmed my midwife would help distract me by changing my position (birth ball, laying on my side in bed) and used breathing techniques to help focus my energy.
My midwife would let me know when she adjusted pitocin levels and when the contractions became too close together she lowered the dose which was enough for me to get a rest between contractions.
I was able to achieve an unmedicated, epidural free birth with my second little girl in just over 4hrs.

In fact csection rate is higher and can be hard if unexpected. (not knocking csections, i was a csection baby!) i think it comes down to being knowledgable with pitocin and giving very low doses. My dr said its wrong when someone other than your dr (like nurses, MAs) administers it and to high a dose is given to speed things up. UCSD has the lowest csection rate in San Diego yet they prefer to induce at 39 weeks if possible. Dont feel bad about inductions mamas, just be informed!

Where was this video 3 years ago when I had my first??! So helpful. Everything that happened the first time was exactly what I didn’t want to happen. My water leaked for 26 hours, no contractions, so they started me on Pitocin at 3AM, increased the amount EVERY 15 MINUTES, and told me I had to stay in bed because of the drip and fetal monitoring. After 2 hours with no natural buildup, I felt like I got hit by a bulldozer and asked for an epidural, which I didn’t want. I write this not to scare others, but to stress: education is power. I’ve since found out I had a lot more say than I was led to believe. Thankfully labor progressed and in a few hours I had a healthy baby girl vaginally. Yup. Im American and I choose an unmedicated, natural labor. My son was almost 2 weeks overdue and I went into spontaneous labor. He was breech which is why he was so overdue but he was fine and so was I.
I understand interventions when it’s medically necessary but then those women get offended and shit on women who choose not to get an elective induction or not use labor pain meds.
They think women who choose natural methods and who are able to trust and wait- think they’re better than them and so they project their insecurities into others.
      It’s really upsetting.

Anyone who is over 40 is encouraged to get induced at 39 weeks here in the US.
With my first son, I was going to be induced at 41 if he wasn’t going to show up by 40+3 days. His due date was right before Christmas and if he didn’t come by Christmas I was going to be induced right after Christmas.

Scheduled for an induction tomorrow. Currently 41 weeks 1 day. At 37 weeks 1 day, I was dilated 3cm 100% effaced and cervix noted as super soft. At 38 weeks 2 days, same as 37 weeks 1 day. At 39 weeks 4 days, everything was the same except I was 4cm and baby was at zero station.
Praying I can simply be put on the lowest pitocin possible to kickstart labor and then get off of it.

I know everyone always says "our body is made for this" or "let the body do what it is supposed to" .. but in my case that would've killed me and my baby. Of course I would've preferred labour to start by it's own without inducing, but on the other hand I am super grateful there are medical resources nowadays to help save mums and their little ones. Despite my birth 3 weeks ago being negative and traumatic, I have made my peace with it. For me it helped to not have had a birth plan, it made it much easier to accept and move on after such a short time. Now there is only love left for our beautiful baby girl.

I went in for an induction this week at 39 weeks with my third child. I needed 3x gels, ARM and the drip .When contractions finally started after 2 days of waiting and 2 false starts I was excited to get going.
I listened to the birthing meditation audios, you made for each stage Bridget. I worked on my breathing throughout with the help of my birth partner.

Watching this during my cervidil period of induction at 38+4. The night before I had a mild but annoying headache and my partner noticed my face looked swollen; I took some readings with his cuff, called my midwife with the results and she suggested we start lab work to rule out preeclampsia. She said my labwork was "shockingly good" so with gestational hypertension they figured it was safer to get her out than not.

I'm 39 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I'm getting induced in 7 hours. I'm a first time mama that didnt plan on getting induced or having an epidural. I was dilating on my own, from 0 to 1 to 3 cm. And then it stalled at about 4cm. My mom said she did the same and was induced and had the epidural. So my doctor and mom kind of pushed for the induction and I kind of wanted to wait. I was told by so many that I wouldn't be able to do it without an epidural, but I've always handled pain pretty well... thank you for this video, it helped me feel more prepared for tonight.

All went well. After being induced I started having contractions that I couldn't feel but showed on the monitor. When they broke my water, I started feeling the contractions. I didnt last very long before I asked for the epidural. That was a pain I'll never forget. I'm so glad everything happened the way it did though. I went from 5cm to 9cm in a hour or so. The nurse asked if I wanted to try and push and see the head. I did and she was right there. She ran for the doctor and everyone came in getting ready. About three rounds of pushing and Claire was here . I had a lovely experience and I'm so thankful.

Two different female Obgyn's offered a social (elective) induction only to avoid a possible precipitous labour and birth. I told them no and they were surprised and shocked. I now told the third doctor that did the pregnancy follow up that I refuse an induction for non medical reasons until week 42. I hope they will not pressure me until then and that I do not go over 42 weeks. Afterwards I do not know what to do due to the small risk of stillbirth, but also due to not wanting to force baby out. He was actually 9lb11ounces at birth (less than a week later) and I seriously believe this will happen again. Still won't induce me until week 39. I'm a little upset about it and I know they're going to try to push a c-section bc they're doing another ultrasound right before the induction...he's likely going to be more than the cutoff weight...they say my gestational diabetes is under control enough but it's still getting high and Im seriously not taking insulin for the last week of my pregnancy...they can just induce me, damnit...wth

It was very intense for me and I had to request they lower the level of pitocin at one point as I couldn’t get a break between contractions, yet my body wasn’t ready to push. They listened and after a few more hours of laboring I gave birth to my healthy baby boy (now 7 years old)! I was able to get through without an epidural (the only part of my birth plan that worked out) of course :) This was my only time giving birth so I can’t compare to a non-induced labor but I’m very curious how it would compare. Hey Bridget! Do you have a video on positive labor visualizations? I have terrible medical procedure anxiety and I’d like to go into our hospital birth equipped with a way to avoid panic and replace my fear with more positive visuals and thoughts. I have PFD so I’m so familiar with the pain-fear cycle. 😔 I’m also having a lot of anxiety about the medical interventions (IV, epidural, cervical checks, membrane sweeps)....
Our OB gave us the option to induce at 39 weeks or wait for labor to start naturally. We have had a completely healthy pregnancy, the only fear being that baby is tracking a little large. I honestly don’t know whether to schedule an induction or wait for labor... she said the current research shows that inducing FTMs at 39 weeks led to a reduction in emergency c-sections. And I’m worried about tearing and his head not fitting through my pelvis. So many decisions and I am feeling so lost!

How do you advocate for yourself when you don’t want an induction but your OB is pushing it bc of a “just in case” scenario? I’ve tried explaining that my BP is never taken correctly at the office and it’s always low when I take it at home the proper way, yet my “elevated BP” is the driving factor behind them telling me an induction will be necessary. I really don’t want to go through another unnecessary induction, especially when I know whole heartedly that there is nothing going on that would necessitate one.

I truly believed that it was the equipment that was reading my heart at times when I moved (for example when I went to the restroom) rather than my baby’s. So they assumed my baby’s heart rate was dramatically dropping randomly. I explained what I thought was happening but I just got dismissed. Can you make a video/ or just explain if systemic medications are a safe choice if we don’t want an epidural? Will this affect the baby, will it interfere with the mommas breathing? What medications are available? I know it won’t be as effective with relieving pain like the epidural but if it can take the edge off it’s an option, I’m terrified of getting an epidural!

I never make a birth plan. I'm getting induced with my 5th baby on Thursday. This will be my 3rd induction. I just know that I'm never in control and so submitting to God's will is easier for me than trying to make it MY perfect birth. I'm getting induced tomorrow morning because of the coronavirus. The hospital I'm laboring in is currently dealing with a wave of covid patients and my doctor understood the need to not wait until the hospital is overwhelmed. I've went late with both previous pregnancies and this is my 3rd. I'll be 41 weeks Friday. My second child wasn't born until after 42 weeks. I'm not risking waiting an entire week.

I'm 39 weeks and 3 days pregnant, just turned 40 a few days ago. All my bloodwork, genetic testing, etc came back super healthy for baby and I, everything in the uterus and placenta look great, and baby girl is measuring in the 60th percentile in size which is beautiful. But because of my gestational diabetes they want to induce me right at the end of 39 weeks... that's in just 4 days! Hoping I go into spontaneous labor before then but if not, I'm grateful for this video and my medical team (and great insurance coverage lol) to keep me informed as possible.

After my water broke I stayed at home, the contractions were moderate. As morning approached the intensity built up, like I couldn't walk when the strong waves came, it just stops you. Then we went to the hospital, they induced me and did some other formalities and my surges kind of stalled for like 30 mins. And then they increased my dose. In total it took 7-8 hrs for the delivery.

I wanted to wait until baby was “ready.” So we waited. 4 days over my due date. Baby was only getting bigger. If I didn’t have my induction, she would’ve been an emergency c section because after pushing for 2 hours, both my heart rate and baby’s heart rate fell. She got stuck and we needed a vacuum assist. She was born vaginally, no epidural, 8lbs and 8 oz. B baby girl! I’m glad I chose to be induced when I did. Besides that one scary moment, I loved my labor. I was able to move and labor and push the way I wanted to. I had my doula with me and she was fantastic. Now I am pregnant with mono-di twins, which means there are two babies sharing a single placenta. I will be induced at 37 weeks if they do no come before then. I really hope and pray that they will! But if not, I know an induction is the safest option for them.

  • @amyelwin3062
    @amyelwin3062 5 лет назад +53

Knocking on people for elective inductions is wrong. There is a clinical study that c section rates are reduced if you induce during 39 weeks. If you have a clear due date and early ultrasound. Just waiting until they are “ready” logic is not justified.

Just letting you guys know...I was induced at week 39. Baby was very healthy at 9lbs 11 oz. No blood sugar issues...just genetics. My husband was 10 lbs at 37 weeks. Pitocin wasn't bad at all! I had an epidural fairly early though (before my dr broke my water). I had a painfree labor and an overall positive experience, except that i bled more than was expected. My doctor said my uterus was tired and didn't want to keep contracting once he was out. They gave me medication so I would continue contracting. I did develop a hematoma that turned into a huge complication but that had nothing to do with pitocin. Still dealing with that...

I'm getting induced because my nurse (I only ever saw a Dr. once who told me about vaccines I should take while pregnant to protect my baby) thinks that waiting 42 weeks is "too long," along with my husband, who is worried that I have not felt any contractions or Braxton hicks even though I am 41 weeks today. I know I have a choice, but the pressure has beat me, and I gave in. But I hope to do my best for my baby and do what I can, even though induction was not part of my plan.

Im 38 weeks and 6 days and I’m getting induced tomorrow because of my severe edema. My super painful swollen legs and my numb ankles and feet. This is my 4th pregnancy. I am very uncomfortable and can barely walk. However i am a little bit sad that i won’t go into labor naturally, even though I have experienced natural labor before. My first son 16 years ago was a natural birth with no epidural at 41 weeks. My second was a 40 week exactly on my due date, 4 hour labor with epidural. My 3rd was scheduled to be induced and I went into labor a day before the scheduled day, I was in labor for 16 hours and eventually was given epidural because I was given some potossen and the contractions were so intense but I wasn’t dialating. As soon as I got the epidural I was able to relax and dialated within an hour to 100%. Now I hope that my 4th labor will go easy and smoothly.
