Hi fella, I started up my eBay site about a month today. It took me about 20 days to put up 250 listings. No sales until yesterday. About 30 days later two sales. Absolutely worth waiting for! Thought I was onto a dead end and I am sure it was you that said if your not making any sales yet just keep going eventually you will. Which though frustrating was worth it in the end only about €16 profit but hey it's a start! God bless you son. All my best. Leo.
As I am getting back into eBay selling (99) I thank you for taking the time to make these instructional vids that help new/returning Sellers and Buyers as well.
I did as you suggested and promoted everything a 2% and can't complain about that. Best offer on the other hand I no longer use. I sell new stuff and I found that best offer attracts parasites, bottom feeders and those who don't want to pay and don't want me to make any money. The same people who will hassle you for a price reduction at purchase are the same people who will demand a refund for Not as described or faulty. They will say that the item never arrived. Over and over again these were the same people. I can't make money by dealing with such people. So anyway I passed best offer off and haven't regretted it yet.
So your revenue is about $140k per year Expenses such as cost of goods, eBay fees and postage would be roughly $70k. Courtney 20hrs at $25hr is $500 week or $26k a year. 140k minus total expenses $96k leaves $44k profit before tax. Not sure how you’re paying your mortgage on those numbers
He’s got RUclips income as well. But it would be interesting to hear a break down on profit in pocket rather then “revenue” he did mention before he makes about 50k but that was prior to Courtney working for him.
@@casssmm 100%. All these RUclips resellers talk about revenue which can be a misleading factor and rarely talk about profits. Maybe because saying I made $140k revenue sounds better for the ego than saying I made 50k profit? Then throw in Courtney’s wages and the figures simply don’t add up.
Yes that's now a significant cost here in the UK Boxes are now expensive. sure reuse Amazon boxes and look for free but as i grew my business i don't want to ship books in tatty boxes
Building a store focusing on size as opposed to selling is decent advice. Absolutely your point has merit… however a store with 10 amazing items will always sell more than someone with 100 ‘average’. Telling your audience to not worry about sales just buy 200-500 items is an easy way for a beginner to think “oh I’ll just buy anything and everything until I get to that limit and like Matt says I’ll make sales”. I would suggest you buy the best of the best and prioritise great items that SELL right away to build up a brand and build up some cash.
@@MayDaymarketing_ I disagree. If you list 200-500 well thought out purchases and make that your priority in the early days you'll have a much better chance of sustaining success rather than grabbing anything and listing anything then sitting back and watching for sales to come through. Just put your head down and build a store is the advice here.
Well presented - succinct and specific...looking forward to such a step-by-step one for setting up overseas postage, tips and pitfalls to avoid. Despite attempting my own research on OS postage, I'm still looking for reassurance I'm not going to stuff it up.
I started this month, have around 73 listing, made one sale only, still cannot make offers nor promoted listing, they are not available , dunno why... thank you so much for your advice that new sellers need to be patients but I have no patience hehe
I'm afraid this thing about listing dissappear as you said may not be true. I have one listing that was listed in March 2013. It's the same item with listing number but it has multiple items listed. Last ever sale was November 2022 and that listing still live. I know gumtree listing or facebook one is those dissappers.
I could really do with some help @aussie flipper I'm an artist selling on eBay but for some reason my impressions have really gone down not sure what's going on it's been like this for few months? I've started to build my listings now as advised on Ur video but not sure if it will help with art sales?
Hey I have a question for example if you find a vintage shirt do you wash it before you ship it? I think it’s a good idea to wash them but at the same time I don’t want to damage them for the buyer. For example I found a vintage Bulls shirt with the tags and don’t know if I should wash it.
Speaking as some random on the internet- If I bought a vintage bulls shirt on eBay I’d hope it would at least come smelling/looking clean. I’m speaking without much experience, but I am lead to believe that it depends on just how vintage something is. If it’s from the 1950’s or earlier- then washing probably isn’t be the best idea. I would say a lot from the 60s, 70s and upwards is (generally speaking) okay to wash. Situationally speaking though, unless it’s like one of the first bulls T-shirt’s to be made…I would be surprised if washing it in cold water and air drying it would do any damage.
@@MetaMeglodonthat’s a good point of view thank you! I definitely agree I would want it clean my only problem it’s from the 90s and I’ve been told they can crack while being washed because the shirt has the tags on it I don’t want to wash the tags because people collect them that way. It’s definitely a interesting problem to have lol
Brilliant video Matt! I believe you are helping so many ! I’ve watched your business from the beginning when you first started! And you are a real PRO now my friend! Gotta send you another tip to bless you for helping others!!
My store still has alot of very cheap items, making $1-2 per item after fees, etc. Due to poorer purchases early on, or items I got in a bulk purchase. The Mrs is confused why I even bother. I tell her that these smaller "bread and butter items" need to be listed daily, so that eventually the much more premium items can sell
$1-$2 profit per item isn't worth the trouble to source, clean, list and store in my opinion. The money invested in those items could be better spent on higher ticket items. You don't need a ton of items to consistently sell on eBay you just need the right items. Sell through rate and profit opportunity are the only 2 things to consider. Your time is worth more then $1-$2 per item.
@@tabboo108 I'm not sure how far into the journey you are and how much inventory storage space you have but real estate for stock management becomes a talking point down the line. You don't want to be tied up with a bunch of stock in your shelves that are long term sitters. Turnover is everything. IMO it's all about buying quality stock that sells relatively fast.
@@tabboo108be quick to throw. If you are a butcher shop with a small display window, you want as many prime cuts displayed all the time. Sure it’s a waste, but more prime cuts being sold whilst disposing donating the rest for now, will help you get bigger display windows that allow you to add less prime cuts for those smaller buyer groups. I love the butcher analogy because he gets the whole and makes this decision of display, bundle, throw daily. Hope it helps :) I got a dumpster in my third year, wish I got it in my first.
I think if you’re reselling on eBay full time you’ve got to diversify your income and have multiple streams. Relying on 1 platform to generate your livelihood is dangerous imo but yep $200k you’d be comfortable
@@mackapakka2784 it helps for RUclips views but not sales. If you look at the thumbnails the ones that feature Courtney get the most views. Not sure it boosts sales though.
Postage costs in australia are way expensive. As an example I was watching a video from a uk seller who bought some big plushies at a car boot. I thought to myself no way I would buy that due to postage costs. I asked him how much it would cost him to send it within the UK. He replied £4 which is about $7 here except it would cost us around 20-25 as auspost taking into account volumetric postage calculation. UK I believe does have subsidised postage, that’s why you see a lot of media from uk with free postage. Back in the day they did this to keep their book publishing industry going and it continues till today. So it’s important to reduce your postage costs as much as possible as they are a main expense. Now anything under $20 that can go as an untracked letter I send that way. Minimum price point now for small parcel is $25 if you can get item cheap otherwise no point at all listing. One thing that really becomes relevant and tends to be overlooked is your time. The time to source, research and price, list and to post.
@@emusaurus Only trouble is that it punishes all the honest sellers who don't do this AND it has killed the fun 0.99 auctions because if item sells for 0.99, seller will loose money on the sale!

Unfair eBay 'fees on postage' and increasing Australia Post costs are profit killers! 🙁
The fees on postage have been there for well over a decade. It's to stop people selling something for $1 with $99 postage to evade the fee.
