    I think Rachel was an understudy for the national traveling group. Geoff spent nearly 2 years arranging this medley - he calls it The Beast. And Eli is pronounced EL-EE

      Wow! Geoff must be very proud of his masterpiece! Thank you for the correction of Eli's name!

    Geoff said years in the making. His arrangement, his seven-minute BEAST. Eli is turning into the lighting Geek. Rachel was in Wicked. Geoff said he wanted to have it set up like they would during a live performance.

      Yeah the performance was everything it could have possibly offered for the music video.

    Eli pretty much does lighting in every Voiceplay video ever. On this one him and Geoff did it!

      They are both masterminds of lighting! Incredible!

    You echoed a lot of my thoughts here. I love me some PTX and Home Free, but these guys are on a whole new level for me with their amazing creativity, fun and remarkable arrangements. They keep raising the bar to heights I didn't think were possible before.

    Geoff's arranging skills and dedication to detail, an insanely talented a cappella group, a fantastic Broadway musical, two powerhouse divas......Perfection! This is Grammy worthy! He's spent years putting this together and he found the perfect voices for this. Rachel was in Wicked as an understudy and Emoni has sung with them before as well. Eli's runs and riffs, Cesar's smoothness and background vocals, Geoff's low notes to add depth, and Layne just killing it on perc. That cascade up and down at 5:45 was magical and so hard to do.

    So glad you loved this one! Your reaction was great. Yes Geoff killed this arrangement, not letting any detail go unchecked. Fun fact about this video shoot: even though everything was pre-recorded vocally, Rachel was battling with Laryngitis. Eli and Cesar slayed their vocals and Layne was phenomenal as usual. It was great they were able to get both Rachel and Emoni on the same project since they have both collaborated with VoicePlay in the past. Overall a fantastic video for a fantastic medley! 💜💜💜 Keep them coming!

      Thanks Stephanie! Glad you enjoyed the video. Rachel is powerful with her voice and it's incredible she was able to perform through being sick.. Geoff is also a mastermind with arranging their music!

    This medley was amazing - the arrangement and vocals. Wonderful. [BTW Emoni is pronounced E-mahn-ee and also Eli is pronounced L-E ]. Rachel was in a touring stage production with this part, so yes, on stage. Thanks for your reaction

    Actually, Autotune is rarely used by anyone these days, unless they want that odd sound as a special effect. There are much better programs available. I don’t know if one was used here, but I do know that Emoni did rerecord a couple small lines off set, and that may be what you heard.
    They usually only use one camera to record, which makes for very long days when taping. The only exception to that I know of was the video for Halo. They had a steady cam and one for 1080p closeups recording at the same time. Layne did a beautiful job filming and editing that video.

      Most professional singers use auto pitch correction very sparingly, even more so when it's a cappella music. What Emoni did wasn't pitch corrected. Singers like Christina, Mariah, Whitney, etc did that all the time, it isn't out of the realms of possibility.

    • @grischad20
      @grischad20 2 года назад

      @@samuelmncedisi1065 i wouldn't be surprised if it was pitch shifted for effect. i don't doubt she can do the run, but the texture of that particular run here did not sound natural

    People have different ideas about how to pronounce Emoni, but I can assure you that Eli's name is pronounced to rhyme with belly. or deli. :) People write it diffferent ways but I find rhyming a more accurate way. Rachel is most famously known for her performances on Broadway as Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family, and the Mistress in the Tony nominated revival of Evita,. She was cast as Ariel in the Voyage of the Little Mermaid. (See VoicePlay's LIttle Mermaid) She subsequently went on to perform as Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Nemo in Finding Nemo: The Musical, and a slew of other shows at Disney. I see that she was in Wicked [US Tour], 2nd National Tour, 2009 as Ensemble [Replacement] and Glinda (Understudy) [Replacement]. More than that I don't know.

    Talking about lighting, watch VPs We Don't Talk About Bruno. Our local university Florida State U has a marvelous film department as well as a world class theatre dept. If you are ever in North Florida, let me know, I'll take you over there. I've seen Sweeney Todd there (so much better than the movie), Chicago, Shakespeare in Love (no music but good), Rent, and more. The Speaker of the Congress of Graduate Students, went to the big Chicago Theater after graduating as theater tech and staging designer. At FSU he built a rotating 2-story stage so each side had 2 rooms, up and down. So cool.
