What a joy it is to watch Carlitos play tennis! The kid plays with the audacity to think he’s going to win and it shows in his incredibly intuitive style. At this point I think it’s fair to say he doesn’t ‘play like Federer/Nadal/Djokovic/etc’ - he plays like Alcaraz.

A week before the main draw, I answered a poll on twitter picking Alcaraz to win the tourney. I had a gut feeling that Rafa was getting bumped out. But, would have loved to see Alcaraz and Nadal meet up.
He's amazing to see. The style of play, the type of shots he chooses, draw in a real crowd. I do think he's getting overrated though, i think he has issues with concentration similar to Zverev sometimes just dropping sets/games randomly. Like the second set in the final his intensity was suddenly gone. Also it is not like he won the tournament convincingly like Nadal did his first Roland Garros. Sinner massively choked and basically had him beat. The flair of his style makes him get overrated i think while players like Sinner, Medvedev and Zverev are comparable level i think. Djokovic and Nadal on gravel are still a class above. But it's nice to see a new number 1 even though it's tainted by the absence of Djokovic and Wimbledon not counting this year.
Especially the Alcaraz Sinner quarterfinals is in the top three US Open matches I have ever seen at Ashe since Agassi and Sampras 2001 quarterfinals and Nadal and Medvedev 2019 final. Djokovic and Federer 2011 semis are also on the list but unfortunately I wasn't there. I feel lucky to have seen some amazing matches. Even the Alcaraz Rudd final, how he was able to save a set point and turn it around in the third set tiebreak was unreal. Fantastic tennis player, fantastic tennis.

My favourite thing about Alcaraz is just how happy he seems to be on the court. 2022 has been the year where not just new phenoms have emerged in tennis, but new legitimate stars. Swiatek and Alcaraz have finally, truly, broken the trend of 1. mens tennis being the Big 3 and nobody else and 2. womens tennis lacking a consistent star.
