- The Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport is Porsche's factory-built race car based on the incredible Cayman GT4 road car. Designed for the Continental Tire series. Unlike the roadgoing version of the GT4, the Clubsport has the 7-speed PDK gearbox, steel brakes rather than ceramics, and of course a roll cage rather than a leather and suede interior. It also runs on slick tires and race fuel.

Maybe it would be worth it for Matt to speak to Nick Murray about audio set ups. Nick's videos are always good in that department. To be fair Nick drives less noisy cars and probably spend more money on equipment. They both watch the other one's channel.

You got to cut him some slack here. The man has to drive a foreign car, on an road course he may not have done very many times. Compounded with conversing with someone and trying to make sense. Its the ol' rub your belly pat your head and walk sideways and drive a car analogy... or something like that.
Comes down to it, he gives a lot of people the opportunity to show off their work, get potential business down the line and provide cool cars to view.

You should put a telematics overlay when you go to the track! It will make it more interesting!
I don't have a telematics overlay program. If someone can recommend somethings affordable that works with Macintosh computers and outputs to premiere I'll look into it. My laps were all in the 1:24 range
TheSmokingTire you must have figured this out in the meantime, but from the 981 GT4 Clubsport spec sheet, the car works with the Porsche Track Precision Race app. You can download the video with the overlay on your Mac and edit it with iMovie (I have some samples of this on my channel, a couple of them quite elaborate with multi-camera footage) or download the data on the Mac via iTunes and do the overlay with Racelogic Circuit Tools for Mac (it’s free).
The Cayman GT4 is already an incredible car, but with slicks, 7-speed PDK and 300 weight reduction is just WOW!!!

As far as I know (and also commented on the road car video), you can't simply buy it for private use on track days. You have to apply for it at Porsche Motorsport with a valid racing license and an active entry in a race series to use the car. My Porsche dealer had quite a few requests for the Clubsport as a track toy but they couldn't get the cars.

Minor critique here, but the GT4 road version has steel rotors as well - ceramics are an extra charge.

Nice review Matt! How would you describe your driving impressions of these new Porsche Cayman GT4's compared to the 2008 Porsche Cayman S (987) you recently test drove? Which would you prefer to daily drive and which to race at weekend autocross and light track events?

Drove this thing in Project Cars 2. Fantastic car. As seen in this video, it's not that fast for a race car, but the sense of speed is brilliant, the driving experience is amazing, and the car isn't trying to kill you. All that makes it a ton of fun.

Great video as always! I wish there was at least one shot of the flyby that didn't have the mixed audio so we can really hear that thing rip from the outside.
I wonder if Porsche would give you one of these racecars but with the option of a manual. Maybe the manual voids the regulations for the Conti race series, but it would be a hell of a trackday car.

If I have place to store a trailer and want to track a lot, this is a kick ass fun car that even I can afford. Where can you get a race car that you can get service at the dealer? I am getting my GT4 in a few days. I think the audio problem is cause by the very loud noise of the race car interior. The sound level over-saturate the mic preamp and cause all the breakup. It is also possible is the AGC cannot deal with the ambient noise floor.
+Charlie Fountain would definitely suggest doing an speed overlay on screen. Make more immersive n interactive

Mhh those shifts! Cayman GT4 with S-PDK gearbox - the dream! The reason I pre-ordered a GT4 way back when the hype was not that big. Then it was manual only so I cancelled. Too bad they don't give us that combo on the road.

Simple solution to the audio problem: trim the gain on the mic input! It's clipping like crazy.

What are the first and second gear ratios with the PDK? I adore the GT4, it's so much fun to drive, but second gear really is too tall on the manual

+Trackah 123 The stuff they use on any proper TV show is REALLY expensive. I don't know about Top Gear, but when I did Esquire car of the year the Lav kits were like $4,000 a pop, with wireless monitoring and all that stuff. Plus, you have a very well-paid man with headphones adjusting frequencies and settings in real time.
Ouch, that's expensive indeed. I guess it's trial and error then on the less expensive methods of recording audio.
