I thought Henry looked Hawaiian. Wow, amazing. Someone had the balls to cross the freakin' ocean in a canoe. Probably an outrigger. Beautiful country. Very special place.
They used large ocean going catamarans that were as capable of long voyages as anything that existed in the Western Hemisphere at the time. It needs to be realised that the Polynesian cultures had 2000 years of history doing oceanic voyages when the Europeans were just beginning to leave the coastlines of Europe and venture across the Atlantic.

The Māori traditional origin location is Hawaiki , not to be confused with Hawaii:
"Their traditional history describes their origins in terms of waves of migration that culminated in the arrival of a “great fleet” in the 14th century from Hawaiki, a mythical land usually identified as Tahiti."
Not from Hawaii, they came to Aotearoa from Hawaiki, thoght to have been somewhere in the Cook Islands. around 1300AD

Kinga, really interesting video, I worked a short while in Aotearoa for nearly 6 months and took the opportunity to visit as much of the North and South islands as I could. I did not know about the Maori funeral traditions, very enlightening. What also caught my attention was your friend Ian that you met in Lesotho is going to Patagonia with Compass Expeditions. I have also signed up riding with these guys in Tasmania when they team up with the Off Road Skills team from the UK. Small world!
