Nice trip and video have been following all of Capt. Tom with adventure happy hours great videos also. seeing things and areas that I would never see. wonder how much fuel did it take to do this adventure? thanks so much stay safe alk in michigan
Thank you! We also watched the Happy Ours series prior to leaving. We just didn’t have the luxury of time he had. We burned about 1300 gallons of fuel.
I'm considering doing the same run, but starting from the Atlantic City area, in boat that is about 2 feet shorter. Nice to see it is possible, everyone else seems to do it in huge sport fishers, but this is the first time I've seen a video of someone doing it with outboards, which makes me a lot more confident in doing it. My concern has been trying to find the right weather window for a week long run.
Most of your concerns about weather should be focused from Atlantic City to Norfolk, VA, meaning if you can find a day or two to make it there, you always have the option of staying inside. You can also pop out from time to time if weather permits to avoid areas with no wake zones. Glad we inspired you and let us know when you go!
Great video. I have a shorter, reverse trip upcoming. Ocean City Maryland to Stamford CT. What software did you use to plan out the legs of your trip? Now that the Navionics app on the computer has been deleted, I am planning with paper charts. Much prefer the digital approach. Thanks!
Thank you! We used Navionics on both our Raymarine chart plotter and on an iPad as a backup. It’s useful for plotting destination marinas towards the middle of the afternoon. We also bought the Waterway Guide to the ICW, which covers Virginia to Georgia. Let us know how your trip goes!
Nothing was planned until around 3 each afternoon, as our distance was dictated by the wind and no wake zones. I will say that our first two days brought us much further than we first thought. I figured it would be awesome to be in Norfolk by the end of the second day but we went 60 miles past it to Oregon inlet
@@rambleon6770 speed, how about the cost of gas. I'm guessing those motors are more expensive and much less reliable than a single diesel inboard. Nevermind the obscene amount of gas those outboards use
Looks like a nice riding boat! What was your depth going through Adams creek NC in the channel? I've seen some other videos and thought it looked sketchy! Then again any inter-coastal you're not familiar with could be sketchy!

Did a similar trip last year, we left out of Maryland. We drove 3 hours by car to Maryland. From Maryland, we took the boat to Jupiter Florida. Took two weeks. The fual alone was $15k. Great trip.
Appreciate the vid; I’m an owner of a 2020 285 Conquest with two V8 250’s Mercs. in South FLA. I was hoping to hear the average mpg and cruising speeds etc. Some of the technicals to the trip. I make plenty of trips into the Bahamas and throughout the Fla keys. I have managed with four adults on board and fully loaded with supplies 1.5-2.8 mpg’s overall avg 1.8 mpg’s @ 23 planning speed. Outboards are mounted to a dual jack plates. Which allows me to maneuver through shallows and make time and run smoother waters. Eventually I’ll video my expeditions. Auto Pilot has done wonders for me use it more when on more common trips to Bimini.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! Like we said in the specs section of the video, we get about 0.92 MPG cruising at around 35 MPH fully loaded. Wind and current on this trip do play a factor. The jack plate set up is awesome for a 28 Conquest, it becomes less practical on a 35 footer because of the hull draw. We are super excited to get to the Bahamas for a week or ten days. Autopilot is a necessity on a 1300 mile trip!
I did from Sarasota to Boston in a Boston Whaler 405 Conquest, 8 day trip. Srq to Stuart. There to St Augustine, then to Charleston. From there to Coinjock then to Morehead City NC. Next stop was Cape May NJ then Old Saybrook CT. Last day to Boston
Made this trip first week of November. Left Stone Harbor NJ, 4 days later in Jupiter FL 45’ Everglades Ran the ocean first 2 days, second 2 were in ICW because of the hurricane heading north.
When I was in High School (1973) my friend and I were going to take his 1972 Glastron 100hp Eventude (bored to 120) (James Bond boat from Live and let Die) from Ocean City to Hollywood FL to visit his Grandmother. Needless to say our parents threw that plan out of the window. We were kids had no clue what we were going LOL Great video, thank you.
What's was the average price of fuel for the trip per gallon.Where was it nost expensive. The average price of marinas for each of the 7 days. Considering simular trip my self Thanks for the video
I like the trip. But I'm left with many questions Number one. Why? Why did you make the trip? Whose boat is it? Is this like a snowbird thing? Are you staying there for the winter? How much did each one of those overnight marinas cost? How many hours did you put on the engines during the trip? If the boat is staying there for the winter? Where are you staying? It's obviously not a live aboard. 👍 Thanks
Great questions! In summary the boat is being left there for the winter to “visit” once or twice a month through May, then being shipped by trailer back to New York for the summer season. Why? Because it’s an amazing experience to do, especially with good friends. We put 45.7 hours on the motors. Marinas averaged $75 a night. Hope this helps.
Wow. I’ve heard of ppl making that journey along the coast but it’s a first seeing it in time lapse. I’d be scared to run @ wot along the shoreline though.

@rambleon6770 Enjoyed your journey, looking forward to Florida waterfront living next year and getting the heck out of NJ. Thinking Merritt Island or Cape Coral.
Hi thanks for answering the question how much fuel that was used. I would like to comment about your boat it is beautiful. after 60 years of boating in Michigan in which 11 types of boats I used yours is a dream come true just the right size anyways stay safe Lucky Man LOL alk in Mich.
🤣🤣🤣 all this talk about doing this and doing that🤣🤣🤣 I took my 17 foot center console from Northeast Maryland to Key Wes on a three week trip back in the 80s without anything but a book of maps, vhf, a few xtra gas cans a sleeping bag , two cases of Dinty Moore beef stew and a half gallon of Canadian Hunter whisky along with 6 gallons of water. I spent every night on the boat except for one. I spent one night at a friends house in Hilton Head. I’m only saying this for those that think that it is a big deal to make this trip. It’s not! There are sections labeled no wake, and stretches where you are allowed to cruise at normal speed. In any case, a boater is always responsible for their wake and any damage or injury it may cause
