Ramble On Boat Tour
Some of you asked for a tour of the Boston Whaler that made the trip from New York to Florida, and so on a recent windy day in Stuart, we did just that! Apologies in advance for the sound quality towards the end, the wind was blowing 30 mph for three days during a recent trip. 🤣🤣🤣 all this talk about doing this and doing that🤣🤣🤣 I took my 17 foot center console from Northeast Maryland to Key Wes on a three week trip back in the 80s without anything but a book of maps, vhf, a few xtra gas cans a sleeping bag , two cases of Dinty Moore beef stew and a half gallon of Canadian Hunter whisky along with 6 gallons of water. I spent every night on the boat except for one. I spent one night at a friends house in Hilton Head. I’m only saying this for those that think that it is a big deal to make this trip. It’s not! It’s about perspective. If you make a big deal out of something it becomes A BIG DEAL! Live your life period. If you want to do something do it! Take what you have and apply common sense and JUST DO IT! Common Sense equals Safety! I enjoy my life based on the facts not anyone’s reality but the facts. Appreciate the vid; I’m an owner of a 2020 285 Conquest with two V8 250’s Mercs. in South FLA. I was hoping to hear the average mpg and cruising speeds etc. Some of the technicals to the trip. I make plenty of trips into the Bahamas and throughout the Fla keys. I have managed with four adults on board and fully loaded with supplies 1.5-2.8 mpg’s overall avg 1.8 mpg’s @ 23 planning speed. Outboards are mounted to a dual jack plates. Which allows me to maneuver through shallows and make time and run smoother waters. Eventually I’ll video my expeditions. Auto Pilot has done wonders for me use it more when on more common trips to Bimini.

    • @rambleon6770
      @rambleon6770 28 дней назад

      Thank you for your thoughtful comment! Like we said in the specs section of the video, we get about 0.92 MPG cruising at around 35 MPH fully loaded. Wind and current on this trip do play a factor. The jack plate set up is awesome for a 28 Conquest, it becomes less practical on a 35 footer because of the hull draw. We are super excited to get to the Bahamas for a week or ten days. Autopilot is a necessity on a 1300 mile trip!

How much did each one of those overnight marinas cost? How many hours did you put on the engines during the trip? If the boat is staying there for the winter? Where are you staying? It's obviously not a live aboard. 👍 Thanks

Because it’s an amazing experience to do, especially with good friends. We put 45.7 hours on the motors. Marinas averaged $75 a night. Hope this helps.

      Yes we passed a lot of slow trawler types. Grand Banks, Mainships, etc.

    Great video. I have a shorter, reverse trip upcoming. Ocean City Maryland to Stamford CT. What software did you use to plan out the legs of your trip? Now that the Navionics app on the computer has been deleted, I am planning with paper charts. Much prefer the digital approach. Thanks!

      Thank you! We used Navionics on both our Raymarine chart plotter and on an iPad as a backup. It’s useful for plotting destination marinas towards the middle of the afternoon. We also bought the Waterway Guide to the ICW, which covers Virginia to Georgia. Let us know how your trip goes!

      @@rambleon6770 No pre-planned stops? I am trying to figure out total time of trip and if I want to beak it up into two legs.

      Nothing was planned until around 3 each afternoon, as our distance was dictated by the wind and no wake zones. I will say that our first two days brought us much further than we first thought. I figured it would be awesome to be in Norfolk by the end of the second day but we went 60 miles past it to Oregon inlet

    I'm considering doing the same run, but starting from the Atlantic City area, in boat that is about 2 feet shorter. Nice to see it is possible, everyone else seems to do it in huge sport fishers, but this is the first time I've seen a video of someone doing it with outboards, which makes me a lot more confident in doing it. My concern has been trying to find the right weather window for a week long run.

      Most of your concerns about weather should be focused from Atlantic City to Norfolk, VA, meaning if you can find a day or two to make it there, you always have the option of staying inside. You can also pop out from time to time if weather permits to avoid areas with no wake zones. Glad we inspired you and let us know when you go!
