3:02 Golden Axe II is my favourite in the series and it's also one of my top 10 games of all time, one which I return to and play through at least once a year. It's so good.
Regarding the *Golden Axe: The Duel* game, the arcade version is actually running on a Saturn: the ST-V (Sega Titan Video), albeit a 100% cartridge version, no CD player in there. The game is an early Saturn "port", so didn't consider any of the RAM cartridges which eventually surfaced for the Capcom & SNK fighters. Therefore, while the home version needs to store everything of the combat within internal RAM, the ST-V can quickload some items through the cartridge in case of need. It was common for some pre-cartridge games to drop some frames of animation, even on Saturn (Vampire Hunter or X-men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes). I assume the same kind of logic was at work on Namco's system 11 (Tekken 1 & 2).
@@V3ntilator with what we have now multiplayer online 3d should be no problem. It was clunky controls and blocky graphics holding them back... But hey do you remember a game called fighting force, basically 3d streets of rage?? That game slapped on the ps1 bro.
@@crow4936 I know of Fighting Forceback then, but probably didn't age well as it's a almost 30 year old 3D game. It's not easy to keep the magic in games like Streets of Rage in 3D, so they are still made in 2D. In fact even UBI's newest Prince of Persia is in 2D, because don't make all games better. Sega will revive more old games, and perhaps they will make a new Golden Axe in 3D.
Yes, same system but the Genesis was used in North America while outside North America it was the Mega Drive. The cover arts of the games were localized. Just like they did for the SNES.
Hi Metatron. The best way to play Revenge of Death Adder is probably emulation. I don't know the best arcade emulators today, but I remembered playing it through a MAME emulator many years ago. I had problems with rendering the graphics, but I'm sure it's been fixed by now. Plus, if you choose that route instead of the Arcade One-Up version, it'll be easier for you to stream, I believe. As for Golden Axe III, it's like he says in the video. It was released on those Genesis compilations for console and PC, so maybe you already have it. It's very good, and all that bad rep is way unjustified in my opinion. Give it a try when you can!
Yeah, emulation is the way to go for Revenge. Cheap standalone emulation devices have minor problems with it, but any decent PC (or plenty of great mini PCs today) rigged with MAME and joysticks will play it just about perfectly. GA3 also probably plays best on emulation or a decent flash cart. There's a compilation on PS2 that has GA3, but some of the music tracks got swapped around on it, for whatever reason.
@@shotgun-jonesmost emulator device well run MAME decently , it's normally Sega Saturn, PSP ,N64 and Dreamcast, when those emu devices well lag and barely work
Streets of Rage 4 had nice drawn graphics. It's about 4 or 5 years old now but yeah, remaking Golden Axe in that style might be cool. Golden Axe 3 had multiple routes as well.
I'd reccomend Zvitor's "Golden Axe Returns". It has a timing-based block function, that works well for this kind of positioning gameplay, and two slots for the pick-up weapons (in case you want to ride a beast mount - that requires an empty slot), and a full roster of playable heroes: Ax, Tyris, Gillius, Dora, Trix, Kain, Sarah, Cragg, Chronos, and King Eve, each with their own magic and weapon proficiencies - Trix is particularly deft with the powerful trifork, and unarmed his special attack is the invisibility cloak. He likes to build traps out of most of the weapons, so he'll destroy a spear, but the mace and arrow traps he can dismantle and rebuild as needed. Cragg doesn't really use the weapons, but he can store them for his friends, in his bag of holding, with his infinite rocks. Sarah has her kicks and aerials and uses her sword as a boomerang, while Kain consumes the weapons to power up his sword and shoot projectiles with it. Chronos likes to run, since he's a panther, but he can handle himself. And King Eve, well, he prefers to fly everywhere, that sorta his shtick, as he is still in his bird form in this game.
Golden Axe is a lot of fun. They should have made many more Golden Axe. Another missed opportunity from SEGA was that Viking: Battle for Asgard game. There was a lot of potential in that game. It left much to be desired but a sequel could have been great.
I kind of liked King of Dragons and Knights of the Round both arcade and console versions. Saturn also had Guardian Heroes, which was very similar although a bit pixelated.
If you're a fan of the Mega Drive Golden Axe games, then I highly recommend you give Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder a try. It is a phenomenal game, that was an excellent follow up to the original classics. Your best chance of playing it will be through a Mame emulator.
I remember spending hours playing golden axe revenge Death adder in arcades it was the best of the hokden ace games with its multi directionon the map system made you come back for more. Did see an arcade console on ebay awhile ago. If it was done right, it could have been like castlevania multiple games and even anime with it
Appreciate the detailed breakdown! I have a quick question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
it wasn't amazing but I really enjoyed Beast Rider! The original games were of course, incredible. It's highly unlikely but an ARPG ala Grim Dawn in the Golden Axe universe would be so damn cool.
3D graphics age terribly; don't do it. People should insist on great CRT filters - or use a CRT. The D and D fighting games are probably what Golden Axe could have been (Sega is not a fan of 'multiple paths' in games though, which the D and D games had).
In this video, in 1:08 there is a glimpse of a new Golden Axe game (among other revivals of classic franchises) by Sega itself. ruclips.net/video/Z9d9tGZWG70/видео.html
I think that the original video is a bit erroneous, like as a kid I've had a Golden Axe 3 cartridge for my SEGA, and I live in a CIS region. It was probably pirated, yeah, but I find the idea that it was never released in PAL region bizarre. Oh, and now I learn that Golden Axe 3 had a bloody combo system? I am so butthurt! Not only I had no grasp over English language, but I've had no manual, and neither me nor my friends ever figured out anything regarding the combos! I remember that the heroes would do moves that we had no idea how to perform during the cutscenes the game would play in the main menu when left alone for some time, but man, what a bummer! I wonder if I should emulate and find myself a manual right now. I have a long overdue meeting with the final boss and those 4-armed arseholes on the final level.
I knew there were several little special moves you could do at the time, but I didn't know about actual combos. As for playing it today, you can find it in those Genesis compilations they've released through the years.
I kind of feel that Genesis was a cooler name than the Mega Drive, tbh, but I can see how it's annoying to have the alternate name. I think they had to call it differently due to the name already being trademarked by another product or something right?
What do you mean not splitscreen? Split screen is still a thing. I hate that so many games have gone away from that. Its is very frustrating. I love splitscreen.
I meant I would not use split screen for a Golden Axe as both characters are on the same screen. But yes split screen was great for other titles/genres.
13:00 I have never played any of the Zelda franchise but this game sure looks like a Pokemon Gold Gameboy game . Not sure of the correct name , I just stole the kids game and played it .
I'm the weird old guy in the comments plus a Sega fanboy. So my opinions are my own etc lol. Grain of salt etc... Best Gold Axe Classic is Commodore Amiga then MD/Gen. Obviously MD/Gen is technically best but I love one button joysticks and Amiga Gold Axe is good for the time. Gold Axe II is ok. GA III is trash sorry. Revenge Of Death Adder is an AWESOME game that plays reasonably well in MAME. Recommend you take some time and set it up on your device of choice. If you want it officially then its Astro City Mini or Arcade 1-UP as Lord X stated. If you wanna get flashy the PCB is around 100-200 USD last time I checked. But then you would need Jamma connectivity and other expensive complications. Something that annoyed me: There are a selection of 'Sega Ages' games on Switch. These were released in two batches/volumes. There was a promise of a third volume and the rumour was Revenge Of Death Adder was going to be ported over. M2 would've done amazing work I am sure but the Sega Ages project was cut short due to poor sales. I love the Wonderswan port of GA as for me it was a nice portable way of enjoying the game at the time. Ax Battler is a decent but basic RPG on Game Gear using Gold Axe references. Mastersystem Gold Axe makes the sprites part of the background layer so the gameplay is jerky but graphically good in still images, I am probably the only person that likes Golden Axe The Duel on Saturn lol. Thats because the Saturn is technically better than the PS5. True facts etc lol. I note you like the original soundtrack: Go here for a nice arranged soundtrack on PC Engine with GA Anime cutscenes. The actual game is complete trash though lol: - ruclips.net/video/WKyjGh4xmyQ/видео.html All the best for 2025!

Sega Lord X has a ton of great content, and mostly but not all about Sega classics. He really deserves the spotlight.
I’m a simple man, I see Gold Axe, I watch the video.
Yes!
Facts 😅
I remember playing Golden Axe 1 on my best mate's 286 back in elementary school, coop on the same keyboard. One of my greatest early gaming memories.
Ah, Tyris... you would have been my first gaming crush were it not for Blaze Fielding sneaking in with that classy jump kick and memorable shriek...

Yeah, I'm into games like "World of Warcraft" , a Golden Axe mmorpg I go would bonkers for that game 😅
Man I couldn't stop playing Golden Axe on Sega Master system and also The Genesis. Altered Beast is another OG masterpiece
I hacked my PC version back in the 1990's so that you could play with the enemy characters. It was a fun game and it fit nicely on a 1.44 MB disk.
We definitely need a proper full 3d modern style Golden Axe game that actually looks like Golden Axe.
I would like something similar to Dragon's Crown.
Na full 3d

American Genesis as the title Genesis/16bit on the console , Europe as 16bit white logo and Asia has 16bit Golden logo , on the Sega model 1 consoles
Golden Axe 2 The Revenge of Deathadder is the real sequel. It's God tier.
Weird huh , that Death Adder , never got a console port , Sega could ported it too, Genesis,Sega CD or 32X .
