Good useful info. Definitely a case of the gunner not the gun, and the right rods. 5/64 might be good all purpose for around the home shop too. Maybe a little harder to come by though.
There’s a few expert welders saying good things about this machine. There’s another $70 dollar welder just like it but it can run on both 120 and 220. It runs much better at 220 volts.
Thanks for the honest review and not bashing the machine and going out of your way to make it fail like some of the other guys do just because it's not a name brand high price welder. Im about to😢 order 1 for around the house. Looks easier to use than the wire feed harborfreight 1 I currently use. Thank you.
I have the same welder that was first up only its red in color was $88 for me and its done me well for all the small jobs i do around the house it did surprise me for the little jobs
3:51 You couldn't connect that welder to a 50 amp breaker. You would never connect a 20 amp receptacle, which the machine takes, to a 50amp breaker. You would melt the power cord of the welder. 50amp breaker would require 6ga copper which won't even fit the 20 amp receptacle :)
nice machine to just have with you in a truck if your just a repairman. Its dosnt take up a lot of space and you can weld something back together if you arrive at a customer.
I too was a little confused about the numbers lighting up. And it probably does over read by 2X. So if it says "200"? Really means "100" amps. Or maybe a little less. Bought this machine because I'm a beginner.
@@JR-zw2vb I'm very happy with this welder. And as a beginner this is perfect. Waited a couple weeks before offering a review, but believe me! I'm happy. Also, my apartment probably has a 20 amps circuit and doesn't trip. Even when the machine was set at the maximum. Just to be on the safe side however, I disconnected all the other appliances and lights on the circuit.
@@robertblackshear8963 Unfortunately I only have access to a 15 amp circuit. So far it has only shut down the breaker once. And this was when the setting was at the highest setting. Something like "200" on the readout. My question is one of what is the maximum amount of welding I can do without tripping my 15 amp breaker? I'm a beginner by the way. Also, even with just my 15 amp breaker it still took the machine to be set at it's highest setting AND I had been keeping the machine on and welding for over a minute. From now on I'm going to weld for much shorter lengths of time That and set the tool a little lower than the maximum setting of 200.
I mean I don’t need to weld much and I have zero experience welding, but justifying 70$ for what I need and to learn I think is a lot more justifiable than 500$+ for a really nice one
that machine can weld aluminum if you using an aluminum stick electrode if you have a pre heating torch you can pre heat thick base metal and make perfect welds
Can you make a video demonstrating? I'm a beginner with a wire feed welder from harborfreight but I'm about to order 1 of these stick welders off Amazon. I'm intrigued and would like to see it done. I've tried some of those alumweld rods that just require a propane torch around the garage on small stuff. Would like to take it to the next level without spending alot of money because I'm just a professional home owner and don't weld for a living. Thank you.
@@Blobby_Hill lol clutch means to perform well in a critical moment. They released this video a few days before I was going to buy my first welder, thus “coming in clutch”
The fender fell off my minibike, been trying to have it welded back on for over a year now but can’t find anybody with a welder. So this might be my last resort. Problem is, I have no idea how to use one and all the numbers and stuff is confusing for someone who doesn’t understand welding lingo. I’d also assume it’s highly dangerous for someone who doesn’t know what their doing. So I might just have to deal with the mud getting sent up my back
Trust me bro it’s not that dangerous I’m welding in my high school right now and it’s fairly simple as long as your conscious of what your doing. I started with mig in February and it only took me a few weeks to lay very decent welds. But if you are going to get a cheaper welder I would recommend a stick welder I would say it’s easier in my opinion and it’s less things to replace or worry about.
I got the same machine for practicing stick welding and its my first so i didnt ever know what the amperage is supossed to be.like. So thanks a lot its not the machine it just me bad at welding.
30 amp not 50. The most you would need to get the most out of that welder is 30 amps running it on 110v. If it is equipped to run dual voltage 110/220 v it will not likely pull more than 30 amp. Those machines are OK to get a job done but they don't seem to last very long. I've seen some of them short out and blow smoke right out of the box. They are great for running 6013 if anything.
I almost watched a review from another guy who said in his first paragraph, "I'm new to this, never welded before, blah blah blah ". Would have been a waste of time. Thanks for your review. 👍
right, it's nice to see someone who can actually weld reviewing these cheap welders. Those other guys could review a brand new $5,000 machine and still say it doesn't weld that good
Im just a mig monkey....but im thinking Im gonna be picking this up payday just to see about little projects around my garage. As a "welder" lord knows me and my buddies at the shop have wasted that much a whole lot of stupider ways
I bet ya could. He just did a thick piece of pipe. Might not be ideal, but if the breaker trips, let everything cool down for a good while, reset it, and go again
1a = 1000ma so if it showed 200 milliamps you would be getting .2 amps. I'm not a welder but if you wanted an accurate reading on the cheap welder you could probably just throw a cheap clamp meter over one of the lead cables.
As someone who is a complete dunce cap i appreciate, im handy with electrical, plumbing, and mechanical but welding i am clueless. You can tell your a professional welder. Awesome welds. No mistakes. That’s why they pay you the big dollars.👍
You got that right!
90% of welding is the man not the machine

was thinking that too. its the man that makes even the cheapest machine to work!!!
Well a great welder can’t weld great if the machine doesn’t work properly.
I can weld without a welding machine soooooooo

Those are some beautiful welds there.
Also, most of those little machines draw around 30A, so a 20A breaker wouldn't be enough.
they sure are
And the digital display reads high. Want 95 amps? You’ll have to crank it up to 135A
Awesome welds, your truly a professional welder, im jealous.

how's it holding?
Usually when the 110 models advertise 200 amps it's only 125 amps top. Even with a 30 amp 110 breaker you can only get about 140 amps at best.
