👋Debbie here…what a great episode😊 I live fairly near to CLC, I have often thought of getting a pattern printed and looked at their website. Always worried about getting it wrong 😅 I really hate sticking pages together so I really do need to try it. I love your vlogs Sam, you are so selfless doing all this work for us. Thank you ❤
Thank you so much. You have opened a whole new world to my pattern buying. I am fairly new to sewing and Have seen patterns which I love but won’t buy because they only sell PDF format. There’ll be no stopping me now 🙏
I just had my first ever printed pattern and I used CLC prints. I didn't know I could choose which layers so thank you very much for the tip! I had the same pattern printed 3 times because I want to cut it out in 3 very different sizes, but for one of them I didn't want the sleeve. So I uploaded it again and put in the notes I would like only page 2 & 3 (not page 1). They knew exactly what I meant and they printed everything correctly
Hi Sam, like you I use CLC for printing my AO patterns. I’ve had great customer experience with them contacting me when I’ve made an error or when I didn’t receive my printed pattern as lost in the post they immediately resent it again to me at no cost to me. I still trace off from the AO pattern as I live abroad it saves the hassle and time of getting it reprinted.
My beautiful husky somehow got ahold of my favorite Style Arc front bodice pattern piece, chomped it and tore it up. No problem. I had purchased as a PDF pattern. Just had to print those 2-3 pages, tape together and no to little stress. I love pdf patterns because I’m a pear shape, usually 2 sizes smaller on top than my hips. So blending the sizes is very easy. I print mine out at home and stick together. I listen to books or watch a movie. This video is great! I wish I had this when I first started sewing with pdf patterns.
In the US, I recommend Tapefree patterns. They print just the requested sizes, fold it, and put it in a handy envelope. Very nice selection of paper types.
I love getting my patterns printed - the convenience is worth the price I think. I use clc, I especially like their instruction books, and also Fabulosew who print on lovely tissue paper 😊
Sam, you summarised all of the reasons why I am a PDF girl through and through. I am in Canberra, Australia and use a local fabric store called Weft and Warp for my printing. They are a gorgeous fabric store and charge $5.50 per page. Fantastic service with brilliant turn around times. I pick up from the store but they also post.
Thanks so much Sam, I get fed up sticking all those A4 pages together so boring !!!!! I shall have a look at CLC printing and give them a go ( a new experience for me ). I love a free pattern and there are also loads of really cheap PDF patterns on ETSY most of which seem to be dupes of the popular Indie patterns which can be pricey. I've used a few of these and they are fine.
Oh that's really useful, thankyou! I have had one printed, but didn't know about just having a few sizes printed. I must get a memory stick, or have a go at google drive, I find laptops don't last that long.
Very imformative vlog on PDFPatterns...which I have always tried to avoid the thought of sticking all those A4 pieces together makes me want to run !! However thanks to you I am going to try again 😊
I have used several companies for printing, but haven't used clc yet, although i intend to as i like a booklet and their's look great. I've recently been using Jenny Stitches, and she has a very prompt service. Also the Fold Line, Fabric Godmother and Flamingo.. If i'm buying fabric, patterns or haberdashery and that company has a printing facility, i will use them as it saves on postage. I was a bit like you , i wasn't prepared to stick masses of pages together, but i have recently noticed a lot of patterns have their pieces positioned so you can stick together in sections without having to tackle all 30 plus pages at once. This makes the assembly so much easier as you may not have to stick more than maybe 8 pages together at one time. The other issue with sticking together, is the pages don't always line up and every pattern company has a different format. The purchase of a cheap guillotine is also a massive help. I've been downloading a lot of Tiana's Closet patterns recently (they are now layered) and the one's i've used have fitted this profile.
Thanks for this. At 5minutes and 45seconds you mentioned a ?program to help you organise Google Drive. I couldn't work out what you called it. Can you let me know please?.
So I mention stash hub which is an app where you can keep a record of your patterns and fabric. It is great. To store my patterns electronically I use my free Google drive storage you get with any free Gmail email address. You can set up as many emails addresses as you like. Hope that helps x
@ thank you. Watching you from NSW Australia. I’ll have a look. Have a lovely Xmas. Xmas dinner is more enjoyable in the cold weather. Think we will have seafood and salad!🥵
Do you ever buy sewing books that include patterns? I’ve bought some and also got some from the library. I think I need to trace these book patterns as getting them copied would probably be cost prohibitive.
Hope you don't mind me chipping in here, many pattern books allow you to download the patterns for printing. I noticed this when I borrowed a Tilly & The Buttons book from the library, it says in the book about it. You go on their website and put in something from the book, then it allows you to download the patterns
Hi Liz I did make it clear in my vlog that it was a back up option and I think I even said I've only done it once. I wanted to reassure people that it was a benefit that comes with buying pdfs.
@ I wouldn’t just print for sake of it. Only if it was damaged, lost piece or another size needed. It’s actually not something I’ve had to do as yet but the point is if I needed to I could. You can also home print just the pages needed if say you lose the facing so not send out to AO but home print maybe 2 pages.
Sorry Sam didn’t mean to upset the applicant- just stating a fact A great video I have always used CLC but didn’t realise they could print layers so thanks for ALL the great information 🎉
Oh my goodness! The cost of getting a pattern reprinted here in the states is far too expensive to justify tossing my printed patterns just because I’m moving. I have done my own printing/assembling as well as paid for printing large format. I don’t love sticking all the pages together, but I also don’t like waiting for my prints to arrive in the mail. I still don’t know how I feel about PDF patterns, in general, but I can’t change that. 😁
I asked a local printing company how much it would cost to print an A0 sewing pattern and they emailed me back saying it would be £28 a page! 🤯 Needless to say I didn’t bother getting it done 🤣
My local was the same, and said it was because they had a minimum print run size. No good if you only want a few patterns printed. CLC was only £2 per page
You are incredible! You explain everything in every area of sewing to inspire all of us. I so appreciate all your hard work.
You are so kind thank you xx

Hi Debbie, if you wanted to come down and I'll sit and go through it with you, I wouldn't mind. ~ Louise
Always use CLC they are brilliant

That is great to hear x
Thank you, that was very helpful. I've never ordered a pdf pattern, I may be brave and have a go. x
Oh yay. Go for it
Me too !

I love A0 printing since I discovered it as I used to trace via my patio doors and sticking A4 together. No more and CLC are my go to too!
Really helpful thank you

Go for it and if you are UK based have a go at getting one printed. It is a game changer xx

@@SweetPeaSewing my pleasure I hope you're able to make use of it
I do and I trace them. Although some of them have a link to the A0 patterns. The Tilly and the buttons books certainly do.
Thank you for this video - no more A4 printing for me!
Ooh I'm glad it was helpful x
I was getting them printed and then tracing until I had that shake your head Emma moment of just cut it and have it reprinted if you need to. 😊
Oh yes definitely
Sadly printing is not THAT cheap to be able to just reprint pages Willy nilly !!
Hi Liz I did make it clear in my vlog that it was a back up option and I think I even said I've only done it once. I wanted to reassure people that it was a benefit that comes with buying pdfs.

The company I use in Switzerland don’t print pattern instruction books. I’ve become u used to reading the instructions on my phone or iPad

I get my patterns printed ahead if wanting them. That a shame they a so expensive in the US.
I asked a local printing company how much it would cost to print an A0 sewing pattern and they emailed me back saying it would be £28 a page! 🤯 Needless to say I didn’t bother getting it done 🤣

I use CLC and they are generally £2 per A0 sheet and have great storage envelopes too. Fast service and never disappoint
Here in Germany, one page A0 is 9 euro, for me it's expensive,so I have to keep printing at home on A4 😏
Oh dear that is a shame
