idk but the message at the end, “you are full of light and magic, go out there and have a fabulous day.” made me burst into tears, okay, so, maybe I know why, these past months have been hard and draining and that little message was just what I wanted to hear, I guess and that meant a lot to me. Emmaaaa! please keep talking about your journey with cutting out coffee, because I've tried before and it's so hard and I couldn't do it! but I still feel like I need to stop, I just feel so dependent on it. I also struggle with eating junk food and being addicted to the internet/my phone. I would love to know how that is for you, like your relationship to your phone and media in general.
SO true that no one teaches you about how your menstrual cycle affects you! I realized about half a year ago I have PMDD, and learning to cater to the phase of my cycle I’m in has been very lifechanging. I wish you the best of luck!

Hi Emmie, I remember a while back you talked about endometriosis and such. That was so comforting to me to know I’m not alone. I actually just had surgery not quite a week ago and they found (and got rid of) endometriosis! I have been spending most of my time resting and have been feeling a bit bored this morning. This is exactly what I needed, thank you so very much 💛

I just didn’t feel the need to get too detailed in my comment as that wasn’t the main point.
I had to do the same thing with coffee /caffeine! It made me too anxious, and reducing it made the world of a difference. God bless half caf and decaf lattes ❤
I personally came to the conclusion that I can have only one coffee a day and I have to drink it before 2PM. (And before midday if it's powder coffee). And preferably, I have to drink it little by little. Otherwise my heart beats really fast and it's not pleasant at all. I used to drink the same amount but the decaf version - but I encourage y'all to read about how it's made... Better to drink normal coffee helath-wise 😅
I’m not sure if you’ve already seen this but if not, you should look up Mieko Kawakami’s interview with Murakami! She brings up a lot of points that you touched on, and I’ve heard her writing is exceptional as well. “On the one hand, your work is boundlessly imaginative when it comes to plots, to wells, and to men, but the same can’t be said for their relationships with women. It’s not possible for these women to exist on their own. And while female protagonists, or even supporting characters, may enjoy a moderate degree of self-expression, thanks to their relative independence, there’s a persistent tendency for women to be sacrificed for the sake of the male leads. So the question is, why is it that women are so often called upon to play this role in Murakami novels?”
Thank you, Emma, for posting on instagram yesterday saying that this vlog was coming. It gave me something happy to look forward to. I’m glad that you’re Dealing with coffee and caffeine. My doctor has warned me about health effects for me, including an effect on my anxiety levels. But that’s me. Anyway, wonderful video. So happy to have you as part of my day today!
I used to drink coffee but it has always made me anxious so I weaned off it in favour of tea. 10000% worth it for making anxiety more manageable. I used to miss the flavour but honestly it has been so long now that when I do have coffee I feel really ambivalent about it. Hope it helps you too, the first while without it can feel really rough! A nice cup of coffee is always there for you if you want it but it is nice not to be reliant on it.

I've had PCOS and anxiety/OCD since my very first cycle, but cutting waaay back on sugar (some periods cutting out entirely) and eliminating seed oils has greatly helped the hormonal aspect of it.

Thanks for sharing this, although might I add...this was so disappointing to read. He sounds like a bit of a misogynist (or at least someone who is 'overwhelmed' with his wife), but not a spiteful one I suppose, just a product of his conditioning that he's unwilling to shed.
@@she_wrote indeed, reading it did feel a lot like him excusing some decisions in his writing without being too eager to see it in a different way. i did find it useful though to get some insight into him as a person. didn't make me feel any more easy about what to think of him as a writer tho lol.
thank you for this emma! really needed it ♡ looking forward to part 2,, i hope you re looking after yourself and having a good week ♡ (also that Rilke quote really touched me x)
I read Sipsworth after you first mentioned it and it’s one of my favorites of the year! I love mice, and the book is so sweet. I’m glad to hear you talk about it
Loving your vlogssss Actually after finishing the whole video and seeing you last lines I have to say have much I enjoy your content. You make me feel so cozy and sweet and you are an Artist,!
Lol Murakami and boobs Imagine people did that on a daily basis to every woman in every situation. "Hi I'm Zelda and I'm a B cup" "My friend, Anne, small breasts, will be at the party" "Ms Hopkins, big chest, is absent today so you're having this class with me" Sounds weird? Umm maybe don't put that in a novel? 😂 I've never read a book when that wasn't mentioned and thought to myself: oh man, I feel like I don't know this character enough
maybe we can start describing men’s boobs too, they can be just as interesting can’t they? “Mr Smith’s nipples were softly highlighted under his thin shirt and Mrs Smith found herself struggling to pull her gaze up to his eyes…” or how about crotches? “Mr Smith didn’t look particularly gifted, the small swell of his trousers looked rather empty and full of air creasing between his legs…”. Now imagine that this is normalised writing for women lmao
I cut out coffee and it helped my anxiety a lot and I sleep way more and better. I also dream more, which is weird. I have decaf and it's so tasty! I don't really miss caffeine
I absolutely loved 1Q84, it gets so confusing at one point but also the plot unravels and idk, it left me feeling so... I can't even explain it. It's always like that after Murakami books, but this one especially. Such a weird concept, but I loved this book, one of my favorites.
I pretty much completely cut out coffee a few years ago because every time I have it my anxiety goes through the roof all day. I’ve had to start limiting a lot of tea too recently since my caffeine tolerance gets lower and lower the less I drink it. Bittersweet ☹️ but I definitely recommend anxiety-wise
I enjoyed reading 1Q84 more than any other novel I’ve read! I remember reading it during the quarantine in 2020 and they were such magical days. Enjoy reading it :)
Emma, this is exactly what I thought of 1Q84 as well. I tend to read every book for the book club, including rereading the ones I've already read. And while I usually enjoy getting reacquainted with a book and, more often than not, I like them more the second time round (such was the case for Orlando last year, for example), the memories I have of reading 1Q84 five years ago leave such a bad taste in my mouth that I opted out of rereading it for the book club. And after watching this video... I'm glad I did.
it's comforting hearing what you said about 1Q84, because that's exactly how I feel about the wind-up bird chronicles which is the only book of his I've read and I didn't even finish it 💀 Just feels like everyone praises everything he writes and I feel like I'm missing something because I did not enjoy the wind-up bird chronicles, but seems like he has his hits and misses as well so maybe I just gotta try another one that's a little more well received
Oooh I also occasionally cut out coffee for some weeks and then slowly come back to it, and I love decaf and drink it regularly! Also no coffee after 3pm. Good luck on your journey!
Emma, I'm really looking forward to you finally reading Babel! You showed it in a video very long ago so I've been waiting for your reaction to it (because I loved it!!)
Loved the vlog. Currently 2/3 in One Hundred Years of Solitude. I have to say it's quite a ride. I stopped annotating because it's slowing me down too much. I drink the same Maxwell House Decaf but I add Vanilla or Hazelnut creamer. Doesn't taste like coffee much but I realized it's the experience of the hot drink I loved. I also quit caffeine in tea, sodas and chocolate. I just feel so much better. Take care of yourself. ❤
I'm 470 pages into 1Q84! It gets weirder. I am interested to see where it goes, but I have mixed opinions. The theme of apperances and how they can decieve us is interesting. And, I love the description of Aomame's smile: "her nose and mouth become violently distorted, her jaw twisted to the side, and her lips curled back, exposing Aomame's large white teeth. Instantly, she became a wholly different person, as if a cord had broken, dropping the mask that normally covered her face." I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the rest of the book!
I might have cried at your end messages. That was just too pure and too lovely for my lil dark heart to take. Never forget how much your videos make people feel better, Emma! 🖤
I recently cut way back on my coffee consumption too - going from every day to only on occasion - because I think the coffee was starting aggravating my stomach too much. I definitely relate to suddenly just not finding coffee that good anymore!
I recently found out that I have PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) during my luteal phase and coffee was exacerbating my symptoms 😓 I miss it so much but I do feel less anxious throughout the day
For the French edition of IQ84 the books are split in a trilogy and I think taking a break between each part made the experience better for me, as you have time to take it all in. Both Kafka on the Shore and IQ84 are amongst Murakami's most disturbing books, but I read them back in highschool and they got me back into reading. Especially in those 2 books it feels like he writes really disturbing scenes mainly for shock value... As they are considered his "masterpieces" they are often recommended but for first timers I would recommend his shorter stories like After Dark (which I remember Emma also gave 5 stars to).
Emmie, I just love watching your videos so so much. You make me feel like I'm your best friend, which is so lovely when you do not have somebody like that. Thank you.
I've had Stonger, faster and more beautiful for years unread and lately i haven't been sure if i would enjoy it at all now and it is so funny that out of nowehere it appears on your channel. I am so excited to hear more of your thoughts and will probably pick it up after all haha
1Q84 has been on my shelf for over 3 years and I've been looking forward to reading it with the book club all year. I even bought the audiobook too. I'm not very far in and I have serious misgivings. Is it a good book about bad thinking? Maybe but so far I don't think Murakami thinks very highly of the way people think about each other. Are these his obsessions, his characters' thoughts, or his view of ours? Can't wait to hear what Emma thinks!
I attempted to read Murakami for the first time recently. Enjoyed When the Wind Sings but stopped halfway through Pinball 1973 when the character praises his work morale by saying he would have done well in Auschwitz. Maybe being a German I'm overly sensitive but that left such a bad taste in my mouth I'll stay off Murakami for a while. The ending message of your video is so wonderful ❤
Trying to not sound like a snob, but specialty coffee from a local coffee shop is leagues ahead of anything you can get preground from a supermaket or a chain coffee shop. But it is expensive, a good grinder is expensive and getting a nice cup requires more effort than most people are willing to exert after just waking up haha
1Q84 was my first and only Murakami, because yeah... beautifully written, but skeeve city. It's good to know that was him at his skeeviest and not the norm, because I've been wondering all this time how you could like him so much. 😅
I've only read Norwegian Wood by Murakami and I hated the way he wrote the female characters in that. So unfortunately it might just be a running theme in his writing, although worse in some works than others 😭
I didn't realize I could be this early. I'm glad to see you enjoyed your time at home, Emma. I'm catsitting my cousin's cat this week and he looks exactly like Calcifer. Thought of you and hope you're doing well. :)
I really loved 1Q84, one of Murakami's best works along with Underground. I feel like Amame is the best female character he has ever written 😂 and that's saying something...
I wish I could love Murakami like others do but I just can’t get past the weird way he writes women. He’s always talking about their breasts in weird ways and some of the complete misunderstanding of female anatomy is hard to overlook.
I’ve read Sputnik Sweetheart and liked it a lot. It’s from a women’s pov and at least to me it doesn’t seem to me that it has that problem. I’ve read it long ago so I don’t recall 100% but at least that didn’t stick in my mind. Also Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World is amazing and doesn’t have much of that either, the main character is a male but he doesn’t talk that much about women at least not in a depreciating way imo
@@sofiaborges3853 I’m talking specifically about how female characters are often described through their boobs, mainly in Kafka on the Shore (“she had a good bust for a such a small frame”) or in 1Q84 where a 17 year old girl is described as having “large and perfectly ripe breasts”. And then when describing when her friends died a violent death, it’s described as “their lovely breasts - breasts that had vanished without a trace.” I find it really gross and objectifying. And this quote from Men without Women : ““The fact that a tampon of mine was stashed away in his desk drawer. Maybe it was because I was so turned on that my period started almost immediately”. It’s like he views women as an alien species which he finds sexually appealing. I know that he is talented but I can never enjoy his works. I prefer reading women or men who empathise with women.
idk but the message at the end, “you are full of light and magic, go out there and have a fabulous day.” made me burst into tears, okay, so, maybe I know why, these past months have been hard and draining and that little message was just what I wanted to hear, I guess and that meant a lot to me. thank you for this emma! really needed it ♡ looking forward to part 2,, i hope you re looking after yourself and having a good week ♡
(also that Rilke quote really touched me x)
coming soon! thank you lovely, sending hugs
Finally another wonderful London vlog I've been waiting for more "homestead" vlogs because you look so happy in them
I love seeing the kitties interact. Calcifer is such a good big brother!
Great vlog. Can't believe autumn season is only 2 days to go🎃🫖☕🥧🍁🍂🧡🦇👻🦉📚🧋
I read Sipsworth after you first mentioned it and it’s one of my favorites of the year! I love mice, and the book is so sweet. I’m glad to hear you talk about it
yay so happy you loved it! it made me smile so much
Loving your vlogssss
Actually after finishing the whole video and seeing you last lines I have to say have much I enjoy your content. You make me feel so cozy and sweet and you are an Artist,!
@@elenamitropoulou3213 so glad you’re loving them:’) thank you!!!
@@emmiereads Aww you're welcome! Have a nice day🥰
Lol Murakami and boobs
Imagine people did that on a daily basis to every woman in every situation.
"Hi I'm Zelda and I'm a B cup"
"My friend, Anne, small breasts, will be at the party"
"Ms Hopkins, big chest, is absent today so you're having this class with me"
Sounds weird? Umm maybe don't put that in a novel? 😂
I've never read a book when that wasn't mentioned and thought to myself: oh man, I feel like I don't know this character enough
maybe we can start describing men’s boobs too, they can be just as interesting can’t they? “Mr Smith’s nipples were softly highlighted under his thin shirt and Mrs Smith found herself struggling to pull her gaze up to his eyes…” or how about crotches? “Mr Smith didn’t look particularly gifted, the small swell of his trousers looked rather empty and full of air creasing between his legs…”. Now imagine that this is normalised writing for women lmao
I cut out coffee and it helped my anxiety a lot and I sleep way more and better. I also dream more, which is weird. I have decaf and it's so tasty! I don't really miss caffeine
It's so nice you can bring your cats with you! My cat has a mental breakdown when she has to be moved 😅
Your hair looks absolutely gorgeous in this vlog it's like Wavy and Juicy love it!! ❤
That ending made my day:) 💚
The only thing I hate about Emma’s videos is that they end 😭
didn't even notice the time! love your vlogs. i hope you keep making them and more importantly, i wish you the best days ahead!
Ty for recommending Amie Mcnee. I'm moving and its helping me through ❤❤❤ you are so good at books. 😊😊
Calcifer looks really great! So glad he responded to the new food. Hope the coffee thing goes well
Emma, I'm really looking forward to you finally reading Babel! You showed it in a video very long ago so I've been waiting for your reaction to it (because I loved it!!)
Thank you ❤ Being next to you for those forty minutes is so comforting and warm
Loved the vlog. Currently 2/3 in One Hundred Years of Solitude. I have to say it's quite a ride. I stopped annotating because it's slowing me down too much.
I drink the same Maxwell House Decaf but I add Vanilla or Hazelnut creamer. Doesn't taste like coffee much but I realized it's the experience of the hot drink I loved. I also quit caffeine in tea, sodas and chocolate. I just feel so much better. Take care of yourself. ❤
bawling at the end messages omg
you are such a joy
I'm 470 pages into 1Q84! It gets weirder. I am interested to see where it goes, but I have mixed opinions. The theme of apperances and how they can decieve us is interesting. And, I love the description of Aomame's smile: "her nose and mouth become violently distorted, her jaw twisted to the side, and her lips curled back, exposing Aomame's large white teeth. Instantly, she became a wholly different person, as if a cord had broken, dropping the mask that normally covered her face." I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the rest of the book!
I agree so much about 1Q84!!! Enjoyed the first book and then................
The third book was hard to get through
Thank you so much for your thoughts on 1Q84, I was feeling exactly the same while reading and wanted to poke out my eyes multiple times.
@@KenHidaka84 yeah it’s rough to say the least!
You are full of light and magic.... Everyone who watches knows this. Have a beautiful day/ night/ whenever you are seeing this.
I recently found out that I have PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) during my luteal phase and coffee was exacerbating my symptoms 😓 I miss it so much but I do feel less anxious throughout the day
so happy you posted! i love the vlogs! i wish you well ❤️❤️❤️
🩶🩶🩶 Your vlogs are some of my favourite videos ever. 🥺
If you want to cut caffeine without significant noticeable effect, try Ryze mushroom coffee. Its a coffee substitute made from mushrooms.
Oh my god 5 mins ago 😭 i've been watching regularly for like 2-3 yrs now but ive never been this early
@@elia212 welcome back☺️☺️🩵
slave to the bean made me actually lol
For the French edition of IQ84 the books are split in a trilogy and I think taking a break between each part made the experience better for me, as you have time to take it all in. Both Kafka on the Shore and IQ84 are amongst Murakami's most disturbing books, but I read them back in highschool and they got me back into reading. Especially in those 2 books it feels like he writes really disturbing scenes mainly for shock value... As they are considered his "masterpieces" they are often recommended but for first timers I would recommend his shorter stories like After Dark (which I remember Emma also gave 5 stars to).
So looking forward to see if you solve the Decagon House Murders, I enjoyed this book. Glad to see you looking happy and settling in with the kitties.
Emmie, I just love watching your videos so so much. You make me feel like I'm your best friend, which is so lovely when you do not have somebody like that. Thank you.
the ending was so sweet, it made me cry 💖💖💖
I love coffee, but can’t drink it anymore because it gives me terrible migraines, so I feel you. I recommend green tea, it has less caffeine.
reading sci-fi in january is so accurate and true. that's the same for me and idk i guess its the vibes lol
@@abigailjose3812 just feels like it’s time to go to space🤷🏻♀️

can't wait the next part of this vlog 🔆🤓
1Q84 has been on my shelf for over 3 years and I've been looking forward to reading it with the book club all year. I even bought the audiobook too. I'm not very far in and I have serious misgivings. Is it a good book about bad thinking? Maybe but so far I don't think Murakami thinks very highly of the way people think about each other. Are these his obsessions, his characters' thoughts, or his view of ours? Can't wait to hear what Emma thinks!
Homebody is such a good word that perfectly describes me😂
Haii Emma! So good to see a new video from you. Much love xx
YOUPIIII❤❤❤ thank you for your videos and for always share your passion 🎉
Hope you're having a great time with your family. ❤
I finished 1q84 early and im so excited to hear your final thoughts
I attempted to read Murakami for the first time recently. Enjoyed When the Wind Sings but stopped halfway through Pinball 1973 when the character praises his work morale by saying he would have done well in Auschwitz. Maybe being a German I'm overly sensitive but that left such a bad taste in my mouth I'll stay off Murakami for a while.
The ending message of your video is so wonderful ❤
I love Sipsworth. i listened to the audiobook so sweet.
Hi Emma, i came across posts online that recommend ginger for menstrual cycle problems...maybe thats worth looking into/researching...All the best!
1Q84 is a wild ride. It gets even weirder. Godspeed and good luck.
OMG we have the same cat tote I feel so validated that I impulse bought it now :)
Emma have you read period repair manual? Very helpful book for learning about your cycle and what can go awry
What a stunning ending to the vlog ❤️
First reaction: "Ooooh a cute kittyyy... OOOOH THERE'S TWOOO OOOOH AWWWW"
