Hmmmm. My thoughts are maybe he was so paranoid about someone interfering with his soul moving to another clone he link his soul to all of them...which had the unforseen consequence of making all his clones wake up upon his death. So one soul but untold number of Manshoons. This ma6 be why they grow mad as they near each other. The interference of having another body connected to his soul nearby causes some kind of baleful resonance. Which may also explain the peculiarities of the surviving clones.
Great video again Jorphdan! I have always thought of Manshoon as the Dr. Doom of the Realms. When I've used him he always speaks in the third person, however his greatest foe is his own ego.
Jorphdan, Another great and informative video on Faerun. :-) "Waterdeep - Dragon Heist" is among my top favorite D&D Adventures. Which is surprising, given that it is a Beginner Level Adventure. I tend to favor Intermediate Level Adventures. Cheers!
I love your videos. I own every edition of D&D, including the various campaign settings. Have read a large amount of the old novels, but always find something new and interesting in your videos.
Question: "Currently, there are three known Manshoon clones existing in Faerun." The one that is in Zhentil Keep, is now _under_ Fzoul (The Clerin of Bane). So who exactly is the Pereghost? What is his position? I always thought that the Pereghost is running Zhentil Keep (maybe together with Fzoul). Is the Pereghost the military leader and Fzoul takes care of everything else?
I'm about to start running Dragon Heist and was looking for this video like 4 days ago.......viola! Little did I know that I'm a powerful conjuration wizard! lol
These are extremely helpful! Can you do Szass Tam next? You mentioned him in the Larloch vid and I know the red wizards of Thay are important to the Tyranny of Dragons adventure so I was wondering about him.
Do you think you'll ever do a playlist / mini series on Ravnica? Never played magic, but my players all have lol and they want a campaign within the setting eventually. Hopefully WoTC comes out with some adventures as well.
I also haven't played magic, but I think other RUclipsrs are covering the Ravnica lore. I'd search around as I'd like to get to this but I feel it won't be for a while.
Great video as always! I have a question, though... That thing with all clones awakened at once, that was just a mishap, no? How it can even be possible? As I always understood, the clone will awaken when original body is killed and soul transfers into the clone. So how is it possible for all the clones to awaken at once?
@@Jorphdan Well, at least in 5e, according to the spell description there is a transfer of the original soul. Maybe that wasn't a thing in previous editions or it was Manshoon's specific twist of the spell, as with the simulacrum spell in Waterdeep: Dragon Heist. As a fan of wizards creating and tweaking spells, I like this guy a lot, whatever the reason for that clone spell going awry was. Maybe it was early development and he was testing the crap out of that spell.
@@jakubguziur7522 Manshoon died in 1370DR. That would mean it happened under the 2nd edition AD&D ruleset. The clone spell was really different back then. You didn't need to die for the clone to become sentient and you could have multiple clones. It would just automatically happen once the clone was fullgrown after 2d4 months. It would have all of the originals memories and abilities at the time of cloning. Either the clone, the original or both would go mad and try to kill the other. You'd be far more likely to clone other people with this spell than yourself. Manshoon must have put his clones in stasis as a contingency, so they'd wake up at the time of his death.
@@David_Apollonius Oh man, now I get it, thanks for that! The original spell sounds much more fun to play with, now it's just sort of a cheat that you can spam with a Wish spell over and over every day you don't spend your 9th level spell slot on anything else. Good spell for the main villain though - trying to find all of his clones before engaging him in battle can be a really cool long term quest.
I played an early Clone of Manshoon, possibly his very first one created via a scroll and not himself, at Level 13 too low to fight in the War but because of this survived when others did not, back in Second Edition D&D.
If I can find information on them then I'd love to. Doing a quick google search doesn't appear to be much except the Apparatus of Kwalish. I'll have to look more.
That's the Night King/Orbach clone which is the same that was involved in the more recent Elminster novels, up through Spellstorm, if I'm not mistaken.
Now THAT'S a clone war.

Can you imagine being a god-tier wizard enjoying a puff on the ol' pipe and then this shit happens?
Manshoon: Intelligence 18 for Wisdom 3
Hmmmm. Good theory! If that is the case, the vampire Manshoon Orbahk does not have a soul anymore, and would no longer be affected by this problem.
Great video again Jorphdan! I have always thought of Manshoon as the Dr. Doom of the Realms. When I've used him he always speaks in the third person, however his greatest foe is his own ego.

Fantastic video i wanted to know the story for this vilan for a long time, as he always seems to be the manipulative villain in fearun :D
0:15 lmao the way you said that reminded me of how Trump talks
*Trump voice* Manshoon, he's a mage, an archmage-very powerful-"
Wow there is so much Lore that goes unexplored. I think you should pitch a Sword Coast App game that would 3xplore the whole forgotten realms

Always funny to see Star Wars pictures tossed in.
Yesssss, villians of ultimate power. I binge watch lore vids of Jor (the ph is silent) dan 24-7.
nice vid! Love the pics of archer and starwars lol
Now that ! Was a great story!
Fzoul, my boy!
@Jorphdan... discovered you channel recently and I've really enjoyed it. Thanks for the great info and keep it coming!!!
That's awesome. Welcome and thanks 😁

Great video! I would love to see a lore video regarding Vecna and the Serpent, or about Kas and his artifact sword.
That's a great topic idea. I'll add it to my list :) Although Vecna is Greyhawk I believe... I'd still like to cover this
I swore the thumbnail said Mushroom war and I was gonna say, the shrooms are aggressive
Beware the Myconids!!
Fantastic video as usual, and very tasteful sponsor placements!! Very pleased with how everything was presented, keep up the great work!!
Great stuff. Really helps give me some more background for my current Dragon Heist and Mad Mage campaigns.
Awesome!
Gary... Gaaaary... Gary!!
This is so helpful thank you I picked Manshoon as my main villain in Waterdeep
Awesome!
Will the real Manshoon please stand up
Nice video, it got me interested in how many other villains there are in Faerun and how one would go about making one!
A great video topic! "How to create a villain!" *Gets Busy Writing

Woo hoo!
Thank you silent PH. You phucking rock!I look forward to your new videos. I often play them as I`m creating for D&D (2nd E Rules!).
Fantastic! Happy Gaming!

I talk about him quite a bit in this red wizards video I did a while back :D

With the clone spell wouldn't you be able to use it to create a level ten or possibly a level eleven spell?
Love your work man! :)
Thanks so much :D
Manshoon will always be the purple power ranger to me.
manshoon is just cobra commander with a better backup plan

I also haven't played magic, but I think other RUclipsrs are covering the Ravnica lore. I'd search around as I'd like to get to this but I feel it won't be for a while.
And then Ed Greenwood casually made a RUclips video revealing that the original Manshoon is still alive and has a Half-Dragon daughter...
Wow. Great lore.

It's a mystery as far as I could find. Not sure if it was a mishap or intended by Manshoon. Also it's unclear if these clones have souls :o

Did not know about this. Pretty dope.
welcome!
Just catching up on these and this reminds me of a "Rick & Morty" episode.

Sounds fun!
they should make a comic book out of this. cool story.
nice vid man
Thanks!
For only one can be the Manshoon Candidate
Manshoon battle royale
now that is fucking interesting.
It's the fucking Highlander all over again! Jesus!
Hello Jorffdan!
Hey Dudderz 2
Dr. ManDoom
Argh! Too short! This is a great video but needs to be much longer!
Sammaster is also a clone.
Defeated in:Waterdeep dragon heist
mystra totally knows about manshoon, I mean how could she not?
She wanted him as her champion at some point remember? She's been watching everything he does!
There can be only one!
No Highlander reference in this video??
Can we get a video on fzhoul? He sounds like a badass.
How about being a clone of Manshoon? You can name them Nathaniel Essex.
Like 666, no one can take that away from me.
I'm just going to say this because nobody has done it yet
M A N S H O O N B A T T L E
R O Y A L E
Do you reckon you will do a video on Kwalish down the line?
If I can find information on them then I'd love to. Doing a quick google search doesn't appear to be much except the Apparatus of Kwalish. I'll have to look more.
Jorphdan thank you for the reply 😊
Someone else thinks the Zhentarim are BORING a.f.? (And also the Harpers).
Orlac 2 necrotic bungaloo
So d&d have clone wars so where are Jedi counsil?)
Red Wizards of Thay perhaps?
@@MasterVolton perhaps, but who is the senate ?
@@Skin1in *I* am the Senate! 🤣
But for real, *Szass Tam* would defo fit the bill as he took the whole thing way too far.
@@MasterVolton *not yet* .
As of 5e there is only one left...the one that was in westgate. all others are dead.
Good to know thanks!
That's the Night King/Orbach clone which is the same that was involved in the more recent Elminster novels, up through Spellstorm, if I'm not mistaken.
Give a like if you want Jarlaxle!
Seriously Wizards Coast Thanos?
He does kind of look like him yeah :)
ive read over 160 Fr novels but Manshoon still confuses me lol
Wait till you hear what ed greenwood revealed on his Paetron as well as RUclips
Apex Manshoons
Eek. an archmage vampire lord. sounds, unfun.
Or the most fun 😁
This is why clones are never a good idea. Spider-Man, Star Wars, D&D, etc.
Clones suck.... except for Naruto.
Fzoul is dead
i think halaster chopped off manshoons arm so he could tell which manshoon was his lmao
