Yo painting a car is something super relatable and something everyone wants to do to their car. I'm loving the content and how much effort you put into stuff. At the end of the painting series, do you think you could put a $ amount on what you did?

U recommend putting a quick voat of primer over the spots where you put filler over the rock chips, when painting my hood the filler caused the paint to fisheye and i had to re strip and repaint the hood

I just painted my car on my own. I’m only 16 and it came out great. That being said.. you got this Robbie
I am 12 and love your channel I love watching you and it makes me happy also you are my favorite channel by far keep up and stay committed.
Okay so robbie a few things as i used to work in a body shop and prep for paint, typically you wet sand after as it is much softer on the paint so you dont mess up the clear coat. You typically start with a low grit depending on the body and paint like 300 up to 700 paint and then wet sand with 2000-5000. You want the body to not be very smooth as the paint wont adhere as well
Great job on prepping the genesis out for paint. The best way to learn how to paint is to just do it. I'm a professional painter and have a few tips for the next time you prep a car for paint
You dont have to red scotch the entire car , you can use red scotch around the edges and hard to reach areas and wet sand with 600grit
If your painting base coat then clear on top use 600 grit wet sand
Single stage paint 400grit
But each paint supplier have recommendations for what grit sandpaper to use .

The genesis needs a down pipe and a new steering wheel and if you can WIDEBODY THE GENESIS
Why get a widebody kit if your going to drift and smash it up, and the steering wheel and everything will get swapped out eventually I think, since he took the wheel out of the BRZ, hes more worried about the transmission because you cant drift an auto

Down the road, let him drive it and get a feel for the car (Once it has a manual of course ;) )
Rolling guards and cutting things is prob better than getting a full body kit and it might get smashed up anyways, maybe over fender flares soon? Who knows we just got to wait for sneekpeeks.

I was so excited to see what you do with the genesis because I bought a bk1 2.0 right before you got yours. I insured it for the first day yesterday after getting home from school in ontario and got rear ended by a guy on his phone. sounds like the car is totalled so if you need a solid trans for the manual swap or ever blow the motor I know where you can get one! I'm also in Victoria!!

when i`m water sanding i`m using soapy water and both paper and the surface is soaking wet, that prevents from scratching, the soap gives a better finish and it`s easier to move that paper around :D

Robbie, m'boi, they make super squishy/ flexible backing pads for random orbital sanders. They make this job take 4 hours rather than 12

That soft sanding block can be used as a squeegee as well for next time haha I’ve done paint n body n the soft block was my best friend n very helpful for checking a area after being used as a squeegee
He needs to take the hood off and lay fiberglass mat down on the entire inside of that scoop seam. reinforce it to the hood and once that hardens hit the outside seam with fiberglass bondo hair to fill the seam and connect to the glass underneath. Sand it all down and then use body filler and glazing putty to finish it up.

Pls give it like a dope livery or something, one of my favorite drift cars is a nardo grey 240sx with a WW2 fighter plane inspired angry face on either side. Keep up the work 👌
The best advice I can give you is to paint everything at the same time, the change of temperature or humidity can slightly change the color, trust me I’ve done it and it’s come out different, and also give everything the same amount of coats and the same way also, and if it’s a metallic color, to make the metallic flakes pop as much as possible after let’s say 2-3 coats drop the air pressure , and add a bit more of material (paint) and from like a foot distance from top of gun to panel, mist a coat on it, yes at first you are going to be like I’m just ruining it, it’s going to look bumpy and such, don’t worry just let it sit for the paint to even out and boom you are going to have a nice even coat all over the car and it’s going to look like a satin finish and the metallic will really pop one the clear is on, ( the more coats of clear the deeper the metallic) but it don’t want to put a lot at a single time because it can run

Robbie, if you're painting your own car, you NEED 3m rubbing compound, machine polish and handglaze. These make a poor paint job look factory. (Not that you'll do a poor job) But if you have orange peel use these! I've painted my own car and had horrible dry overspray and orange peel, these fixed that right up.

Robbie it's scotch brite. You don't need a respirator. This is coming from a person who block sanded a bondo laden bronco with a 50 grit sand paper and proceeded to lay base primer and filler all without a mask \_('-'(_/
Edit: I STRONGLY advise that you paint the bumpers and the car as a whole, or they will most likely turn out seperate colors. Especially since they are already two different colors and I assume you aren't priming since you already wet-sanded. After you paint everything, you can take the seperate parts back off and do touch ups juuuuust before the paint has fully cured. Like if you don't want Genny to be two seperate colors!!!!!!!!

p. s. you can use that spray to scrub off semi recent overspray

The scuff pad helps the paint grab onto the car
Paint the inside of the hood and bumpers day before then put them back on the car and paint it as one thats how goonsquad does it

Every panel that you can remove, do it! Paint parts off the car as much as possible
Little painters tip: you shouldn't really sand further than 400 of 600 grit. Otherwise the paint has not enough to grab onto...
