The thing about weight and power, as (I think) Gordon Murray said; more HP only makes you faster in a straight line, but less weight makes you faster everywhere Edit: It was Colin Chapman, thx Steve
Guys its happenings, Robbie's channel is going to the Moon this summer! So many cars and getting more frequent updates on them is flippin' awesome! Happy for you bro!
Thank you! Currently have my 85 s12 with SR20DET swap stripped down for wiring. Been contemplating whether to keep it sleepy with the interior or hardcore with everything out. This was awesomely informative!
I'm wanting to do a lot of the same stuff with my Mustang. I don't need a stereo or a back seat. But I also don't want to go full race and strip the interior. I grew up in the '70s, when cars were still fun. I don't need airbags, traction control, or ABS. Have you seen the ABS module on a Mustang? Thing is half the size of the engine. Replace it with a block of aluminum, knock five pounds off the front of the car. Might even convert to manual brakes, save the weight of the booster.
Drift car don’t need heat. Take that heater core out. You’ll save another 60 pounds. And the roof lining and lights. And rear re-bar. Total you’ll get another 100lbs out
Oooo never been this early :) 3:00 I like full Interior too. The only time I would strip a car is when I get an ek/eg hatch and even then I will have it painted to match in the inside with full dash. 16:40 Nice spot for a bar or pool table 🥸
I like when cars have interiors. It makes them usable in more situations instead of just turning your car into a track queen. My ideal has always been a stock+ approach where the interior and exterior still look fairly stock, or something which the performance division of the parent company would have envisioned for the car. With Nissan, you look toward Nismo. With Honda, you look to Spoon. With Mercedes, you've got AMG. So most manufacturers either have their own in-house tuning division, or they have a 3rd party which they frequently partner with for their performance builds when they decide to involve themselves in a racing scene. But I definitely don't think ditching the interior is quite the answer that people think it is. Carpets and seats with actual cushions are passive sound dampening and make a car properly streetable. An electronically lockable rear differential is a good way to have a streetable car that you can take drifting (though it may end up being weaker compared to using a welded diff). But it's all about determining how much of the daily drivability you're willing to compromise on for your hobby's unique performance improvements, and drifting has a lot of them. The higher you go in the hobby and competitive scene, the more you have to sacrifice in daily drivability. You'll eventually be required to install a full roll cage and race seats with 5-point harnesses. You'll need to tub the front fender wells or step out your front tires severely to get the insane turning angles you require to maintain your lines during a drift. You'll need to push at least 400HP out of whatever engine you've got in order to gain greater control over when your tires break loose and when you allow them to regain traction. You'll need to sacrifice even more interior aesthetics and daily driving practicality to go for the tall hydro brake handle and matching shifter to improve drifting ergonomics, etc. Because here's the rub: to be able to drift a stock interior car to a level of precision comparable to a specialty built drift car, you have to have impeccable skills, and most people don't have those. But, on the plus side, skills learned from driving a fully modded drift car do translate to a certain degree back to stock and stock+ cars, though you will need to mod the stock handbrake not to use the cable actuated ratcheting brake and instead use a hydro brake kit, or an in-line hydro kit.
Yaw is a measurement of how much your vehicle leans from side to side from vertical. Yaw sensor reads vehicle lean from left to right in a turn, or the effect of strong wind on a vehicle.
If you're willing to fight with the engine bay a lot, you could always swap in the 3.8L V6 that you could option the car with and buy the supercharger kit for it to make around 450HP. It also sounds pretty amazing if you aren't running it through a turbo, so that'd be a win-win, really. Plus, then you could afford the power to haul around the extra weight of your interior.
I think 14 hp is really good. Just off weight. Usually cost money for more power. I am with you. Looks are worth the loss of the power. But I get why people do it now. I can just imagine how much weight I could trim off mine. I have 2003 mitsubishi eclipse spyder. If I got ride of the top all together. It also has leather seats. But a much cheaper heavy leather. Even with that. It would still be slow. Lol thank you for doing this video. I always appreciate learning. Love your car's. I'm in the middle of my first build. For my son's first car. Plan on doing a few after if I don't mess it up. Lol. Thanks again.
@WarriorOfEden3033 if you drop weight you can redistribute it. And most weight yountake off isn't going to effect the balance u less your removing and replacing entire sections with something different. Adding 100 lbs on any corner isn't going to make much difference in the handling.
@@cyruslever586 corner balancing is for the suspension to load properly with the weight of the vehicle in a straight line or corner. Weight distribution & balancing is more important than over all weight. You should attempt to optimize all 3 if you can
@@WarriorOfEden3033 and 100lbs on any given corner is going to be unnoticeable to most people. It's an extra thing to do but makes almost no difference. You have to remove hundreds of pounds before it really changes the handling charateristics

Love your vids man! Just a curiosity, you have any plans for engine swapping later down the line for the Jenny? I only say because the 2.0s are known to throw a rod and knock, and the 3.8(if you turbo/supercharge it) also. Just a common thing within the genesis community tbh. But keep up the sexii work meh boiii!!
Thought it was full send or no send Robbie... NO AC, NO DASH, NO CARPETS, NO AIRBAGS, NUFFINNNN. You bought it to be a drift car not to be a dad car, PS- love you Robbie
Hey Robbie, No matter what forums tell you, Physics never lie ... less weight (from stripping the interior for example) results in a better power to weight ratio and therefore results in mo powa baybay. :)
How is yaw sensor a weird name? The rudder on airplanes is also for controlling "yaw." Yaw is the left and right movement of a vehicle. What should they have called it "The stop the vehicle from moving left and right unexpectedly sensor"?
Honestly I feel like if you remove the spare tire, the tool kit, the jack and the rear seats (useless anyways with bucket seats in the front) you'd save most of the weight and keep a car with a clean interior that doesn't look like it belongs in a junkyard. A fiberglass sunroof delete would save soooo much weight and actually look better. Also, in my opinion if your car feels slower when you have a passenger/an additionnal 200lbs, you should worry about how slow your car is instead of trying to make it lighter. (And honestly I've barely noticed a difference in my car which only makes 115hp and thus is underpowered as hell, it's a noticeable difference in my sister's car that makes 75hp, and not even a difference big enough that would make a stripped interior worth it.) Lastly, theory says your car gets much faster when you make it lighter, but the theory makes it seems way better than it is in reality. Go and drag race an nb miata vs an sn95 mustang that have very similar power to weight ratio and you'll quickly understand reality is much different than theory, adding horses is always more effective than taking weight out. Especially when you own a car that just needs a tune to get an extra 40-50hp... (btw an nb miata runs 15's on the quarter mile on a lucky day, and 16's most of the time, while a stock sn95 run high 14's on a good pass and low 15's everytime, they both have a ratio of around 15.5lbs/hp)
I was always taught rule of thumb is for every 100lbs of weight lost its 1/10th of a second in a quarter..I only do straight lines so couldn't share any information regarding drifting or circuit racing.
